ABOUT ME and Roommates:
I am 29 years old male, studying Ph.D at Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Department. In addition to science, i also love Salsa dancing and I had a chance to be a salsa instructor at University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago Dance academy and Hubbard Street Dance center. I dont have any roommates other than airbnb guests so you might expect to see other airbnb guests sharing the common areas since it is a three bedroom/two bathroom apartment. Sometimes it is only me in the house.
We live at north pilsen very close to university village and University of Illinois. It is 3-4 miles away from downtown. It takes 5 mins driving to downtown with no traffic, 10 mins by bus, 15 mins by bike and 40 mins by foot. There are lots of nice Mexican restaurants around here. It is also very close to 18th street art center.
PARKING: There is one spot available at backyard but it is not guaranteed since other airbnb people might be using the spot so it is better to ask before reserving. Although parking spot is full, do not worry. There is tons of free street parking available in front of house before 8 pm. If you come after that time, it is still easy but you might need to walk one or two blocks. Be careful though, there are sometimes street cleaning in certain days, so it is better to check signs before parking.
GETTING THERE: It extremely easy to get here from airports.
If you are coming from OHARE airport, just get into blue line train from the airport where the blue line starts and take off at UIC-Halsted station. Once you get there, it costs around 7-8 dollars by cab to come to my place. You can also use bus ( Bus Halsted # 8) from station to go to south 18th street but i recommend to use the cab since it is cheap and much more convenient.
If you are coming from MIDWAY airport, use orange line train from airport and take off at Halsted Station. And use the bus to go to 18th street ( Bus Halsted # 8) . I recommend to use cab from train station since it is so cheap around 7-8 dollars.
If you are coming from downtown, You can use pink line train and take off 18th street train station. Once you get out the train station, go east on 18th street. You will find my street after walking 10mins.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE ?
TO DOWNTOWN: 5 mins with car if there is no traffic, 10 mins with bus, 15 mins with bike, 30-40 mins by foot.
TO McCORMICK Place: This place is located at weird spot of Chicago so it is little hard to arrive there with public transportation from anywhere. It takes 10 mins by car, 25 mins by bus from my place.
OHARE airport: One hour with public transportation, and 30 mins by car if there is no traffic.
Overall the experience was great, but when we arrived there, Nazir was gone, and the other person who was supposed to take care of the guests was sleeping. So we ended up changing the bedding (from the previous guest) and making ourselves at home. I appreciate the trust of letting us in to live there, but come on, guys, prepare a room for your guests before you go to sleep :)))
The reservation was canceled 34 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Our stay was great! We drove from NC Nazir made sure that we had garage parking. He greeted us when we got there and showed us around the place. His house is very clean and the bed was super comfy. The neighborhood was safe. I would recommend it to anyone.
I stayed with Nazir on my drive from NY to Colorado. Nazir was very accommodating in providing me with garage parking since I didn't want to leave my car fully parked on the street. The room and bed were comfortable and clean. Nazir was welcoming and offered for me to go out dancing with him and his friends to see the city. Unfortunately, I had to wake up early and could not go. If I ever pass through Chicago again I would stay there again!
Nazir wasn't there when we first arrived but he made sure to let us know exactly how to enter the house and where to park the car. We even had towels laid out for us. There were a few other people staying there too, and everything went as well as could be expected. The only downfall is having to share 1 bathroom with everybody, but it was never really an issue, though!
His place is steps away from a bus stop that takes you right into town, there's free wi-fi, it's a safe area, and we had a great time! I'd recommend staying with Nazir! :)
We had a little mishap about my arrival time, but we got things cleared up and he even left my boyfriend and I a bottle of wine to help smooth things over (which was not at all necessary!). He's the sweetest thing and the place is a nice, clean place to stay. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone1
Here is my review:
The good: great location. Close to downtown. Nazir provide us 2 bicycles for free which is the best way to visit Chicago. We did really enjoy it and bikes are in a good shape.
The bad: when i booked the room, the posting said bathroom will be shared with max 1 person. In fact, We had to share bathroom with 1 air b&b couple + 1(website hidden) couple. So bathroom was always occupied and sometimes we had to wait an hour to have it available and we were late.
The house is nice but i have to say that is not very clean. It's not horrible but it could be better.
For the price, i think it's a great deal and nazir is a nice guy.
Staying at Nazir's was our first Airbnb experience, and we'd do it again! Nazir was friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. The room was clean, simple, and just what we needed. The rooftop with a view of the Willis Tower and downtown was a nice touch. We also enjoyed the neighborhood of Pilsen, as it's full of good food and is served by the Pink Line (stop at 18th), several buses, and even Divvy Bikes bike share kiosks.
This was my first time using AirBnB and it was definitely an experience. I arrived at Nazir's place soaked from Chicago's welcoming rainstorm and Nazir was there to greet me and my friend. His condo was easy to find and relatively easy to get into using the directions he gives you prior to your arrival. The room was as described - spacious with a large bed (fit for 2) with newly washed sheets, large closet, 2 washed towels, & keys for bedroom (& gated parking space that we requested). Nazir even left a guide for Chicago and a summer events schedule booklet for us. Also, there had been a previous post about the A/C not working but that was only because the vent in the room was closed - I never had to worry about Chicago's summer heat inside the condo.
I traveled from Nazir's place via the 8 bus and the Halsted Orange line Metro - the commute was 15-20min, depending on the schedules; super convenient. I came back late at night (11pm- 12am) with my friend and didn't feel too scared since there were people out with bikes and an occasional police car driving by. One thing to note though are the neighbors with young kids who are up past midnight talking loudly and hanging outside of their places. You can't hear them inside the condo but you do pass by them.
Nazir is kind and good with responding to emails prior to your visit. I would recommend his place to stay if you are on a budget and are pretty open-minded to meeting random strangers. Nazir also opens up his couch on the 1st floor for couch surfers and there's a 2nd room directly next to the room you'd be using (you'll also be sharing the bathroom). Also, airbnb customer service was not helpful when trying to use the same 2 means of communication I was using to reach my host - I was able to reach Nazir a few hours later and had no problems.
Overall, this is an extremely long review but I had a good experience here. Thanks Nazir!
Overall the stay was ok for what it is.
Nazir was a good host and upon our early arrival he allowed us to leave bags in the apartment.
However, throughout the day, there was no air conditioning (in the middle of summer), there were no towels ready ( I had to wait for him to wash and dry them for me), and there was no blow dryer. All in all it was a busy one night stay for me and I only needed the place to sleep and shower. The sleep part was ok because there was clean sheets but no air conditioning. The room was very hot. The shower part - a little problematic with no towels available or no blow dryer for the hair. I had to dry off with a tshirt!
Also we were told the bathroom would be shared with one other airbnb party. However between our party of 2, other airbnb part of 2, and nazir himself, we shared the bathroom in the am between 6 people which made getting ready on time difficult. Also a mirror somewhere else in the apartment besides the bathroom would have been helpful and would have cut down on bathroom wait lines!
All in all, nazir was very nice and his room was helpful in an economic pinch.
