About this listing

This is Clint Eastwood's town, best known for being a dog-friendly, artsy beach town. Hidden away in the woods, our rustic cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities and just minutes from downtown and the beaches. PLUS, the cabin is very quiet, very private, and equipped with a small kitchenette, super high-speed WIFI for streaming and cable TV.
ALERT: Traveling on the Pacific Coast Hwy is curtailed for another year. See news releases on Mud Creek.

The space

You'll find our cabin is perfect for two . . . Simple. Comfortable. Quiet and Cozy (250 sq ft) -- plus minutes from downtown and spectacular sand beaches.

We are Pet Friendly and would love to entertain your beloved Fido, but PLEASE NOTE . . . we are now charging $25 extra for the first dog and $15 extra for the second (per stay). Dog surcharges will be added after you've booked. We also ask that you bring the appropriate bedding as well as food and water dishes. Deer and other wild animals are often around at night, so don't be spooked if your dog decides to growl a bit. Even squirrels will set our dogs off. Over the years we've never charged owners with dogs, but it's become evident that the cabin often needs extra care after a dog has been with it's owners.

The cabin has taken on a colorful atmosphere reflecting California's early settlers, so we hope you'll enjoy the antique saltillos from Mexico, papercuts from a well known artist in Guanajuato, and a few other south-of-the-border items that have made their way north,

We provide coffee and tea to get you started in the morning. No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot, toaster, and dishes - all ideal for take out.

You'll be located on the same property as our family home, but totally detached from the house (about 50 steps down from the parking area) and with no other guests to disturb you.

We're long-time residents, knowledgeable about the area and able to help you find some of the many unique spots guidebooks don't mention.

For those of you who have allergies, please keep in mind that Pets have been in the room previously. Also, because we're located in the woods, pollens may be a problem for you as well.

If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.

Guest access

I apologize, but I've finally realized my brother Tom and I are so deaf these days that we can't always hear anyone at the door and it's easier for everyone if I leave a note directing you to the cabin where you'll find a note with hopefully all the necessary info (wifi passwords, etc.). Check-in is anytime after 3pm. Lights will be on should you arrive in the evening (please, if possible, check-in before 9:00pm). The cabin is to the LEFT of the front door and down approximately FIFTY steps. On your arrival the cabin door will be open (door knob turns LEFT). If you have further questions or get lost, just give us a call . . . happily I am able to carry on a phone conversation.

Interaction with guests

During your stay, I prefer to allow guests their privacy; and, actually, you may see more of my cat and the squirrels than you will of me as I run several online Etsy shops. My brother and I are usually around, however, for any questions guests might have.

Other things to note

Besides the fact guests bring their dogs, be aware that we're in the woods, especially those of you who suffer from severe allergies brought on by animals, pollens or molds. You just may not find our place suitable. We run a dehumidifier whenever possible and our vacuum has a Hepa filter on it, yet you still might not find this sufficient. So far, in the six years we've been renting through Airbnb, only three guests have complained; and, generally it's around February when the acacia and pine pollens are dusting the landscape.

We look forward to your visit and hope you'll enjoy yourselves, but we ask that you observe or understand the following:
* When making this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or of others whom they invite to use the premise.
* Our cleaning fees are high out of necessity as Monterey County charges a whopping 10.5% occupancy tax; thus, I've incorporated the taxes into this cleaning fee.
* Keep the property and all furnishings in good order.
* Guests are not allowed to exceed the occupancy limit agreed to when booking.
* Please, smoking or consumption of drugs is not allowed in the cabin or on the property.
* Arrival after 3pm; departure before noon
* No open flames (candles, BBQ's etc.) allowed.
* We suggest you bring beach towels. We do not permit towels or linens to be taken from the cabin.
* Do NOT flush anything down the toilet other than toilet paper. No feminine products should be flushed at anytime. If it is found that feminine products have been flushed and clog the septic system, you could be charged damages of up to $300.
* Refunds and cancellations are in accordance with Airbnb's "Strict" refund policy.
* The Host is not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. Left behind items returned upon request at guest's expense.
*Pets: Pets must be leashed at all times. Guest is responsible for cleaning up any/all pet refuse. All pets must be treated with a flea and tick repellent three days prior to arrival. Fleas and ticks are very rampant in this area and can cause harmful/fatal illness to humans and pets. Pets must not cause damage to premises or furnishings. Pet will not be left unattended on balcony, patio or porch. Pet bedding and food bowls to be supplied by guest. We can give you the name of several pet sitters in the area.
* No daily maid service.

Shelley's place is the perfect secluded cabin. A truly peaceful retreat, we enjoyed relaxing in Shelley's place after exploring downtown Carmel. Check-in was simple and it had all of the basic amenities one would need. Would definitely stay here again!

When we arrived at Shelly's cabin we were greated by her cat,"Meow Meow," who was an excellent guide to our cabin. The cabin was set back into the beautiful garden Shelley keeps. It's the perfect size for a couple or single person. Ocean Ave is close, as is Carmel Beach. Big Sur was conviently close as well (which is where we spent most of our time. ) We look forward to spending time here again in the near future!

This was such a relaxing and well needed vacation for us. We just wish we could have stayed longer. The place was so relaxing and perfectly secluded for a quick getaway. The location was also great, a 15 minute walk to the beach or downtown. I would definitely stay again.

This place is amazing and the location is perfect. Don't be thrown off by the small size, it's much bigger than advertised.

I have lived EVERYWHERE, but no where long enough to call it home. Love accents from Georgia and Texas (was born in TX); love Trillium, Hosta and Ramps (from North Carolina) . . . loved living in a REAL log cabin (in Ohio) . . . and loved watching 15 foot alligators on the Withlacochee in Florida.

Now my brother, on the other hand, has gloried in what the Peninsula has to offer ever since he was very young. But, we both love living here, as did my dad after he built our house for my mom in the 60's. Like many others in this country, Tom and I both thought we'd be retired by now. The joke's on us I guess. No matter, we've met some wonderful and interesting people while hosting Airbnb guests from all over the world. We hope you'll be one of them.
