This is Clint Eastwood's town, best known for being dog-friendly and its world-class vineyards. Hidden away in the woods, our cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities . . . minutes from downtown, beaches and a tennis court around the corner.
ASK ABOUT OUR TWO-NIGHT SPECIAL: Book two nights and receive a discount on the nightly rate (offer good through December 2015 for two nights only with exceptions being the Pebble Beach AT&T Golf Tournament; the Concours d'Elegance; and, New Year's Eve ). When you book, I'll manually enter the special rate of $140/night instead of $150 (includes Monterey County Hotel Tax of 10.5%)
You'll find our cabin is perfect for two . . . Simple. Comfortable. Cozy (250 sq ft) and Quiet -- plus minutes from downtown and spectacular sand beaches. Decorated with antique saltillos from Mexico, papercuts from a well known artist in Guanajuato, and a few other south-of-the-border items that have made their way north, the cabin has taken on a colorful atmosphere reflecting California's early settlers.
We provide a modest Continental breakfast to get you started in the morning . . . coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt and biscotti! No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot and toaster, and dishes - ideal for take out.
You'll be located on the same property as our family home, but totally detached from the house (about 50 steps down from the parking area) and with no other guests to disturb you.
We're long-time residents, knowledgeable about the area and able to help you find some of the many unique spots guidebooks don't mention.
A third person may be accommodated on a Japanese-style futon ($25/visit) recommended mainly for small children
We are Pet Friendly and would love to entertain your beloved Fido as well. However, for those of you who have allergies, please keep in mind that Pets have been in the room previously.
If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.
Also, check out my Guidebook. Don't miss the Mission San Antonio de Padua which sits in the Valley of the Oaks on what was once the Milpitas unit of the Hearst Ranch. Of all the missions, this is my favorite . . . partly because it is in the middle of nowhere and also because the restoration was more sensitive to the Mission's style . . . in other words, it doesn't look like Disneyland.
Let me know by email your approximate time of arrival. In some instances I have to be away from the house, so I'll let you know by email or leave a note on the door telling you just to "make yourself at home in the cabin."
Interaction with Guests
Along with my cat, I usually "meet and greet" guests when they arrive and my brother and I are usually around for any questions guests might have. During their stay, I prefer to allow guests their privacy. No daily maid service is available unless specially requested.
The cabin is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood facing the Pebble Beach Forest Conservancy across from a little used road (Pescadero) in a quiet residential neighborhood, but you'll find yourself very close to all the Peninsula has to offer.
Want to look out on the forest? Want to watch birds whiz by with squirrels nearby? You can, yet we're so close to town, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the post office. Also, you might like to know Carmel has been voted one of the Top Ten Dog Friendly places in the country. WOOF! So, bring your dog.
Please check the CALENDAR tab above to determine whether we've been booked.
It's a 10 minute walk to town and a 20 minute walk to the beach. Bus routes are within a 5 minute walk. If you're coming by train, the train has a bus service which will drop you in Monterey where I can pick up and drop off guests.
Other Things to Note
As we're in the woods, those of you who suffer from severe allergies brought on by pollens or molds may not find our place suitable. We run a dehumidifier whenever possible and our vacuum has a hepa filter on it, but you still might not find that adequate. So far, in the four years we've been renting through Airbnb, only two guests have complained.
We hope you'll enjoy yourselves, but we ask that you observe or understand the following:
* Please, no smoking inside.
* Arrival after 3pm; departure before noon
* No open flames (candles etc.) allowed.
* Pets may not be left unattended and are not allowed on chairs or the bed.
* Pet bedding and food bowls to be supplied by guest. We can arrange pet sitters.
* No daily maid service.
* Left behind items returned upon request at guest's expense.
We enjoyed our stay at Shelley's beautiful spot in Carmel! The cabin is quiet and peaceful and private. Plus it is an enjoyable early morning walk down to the beach, or drive to walk around Carmel's art district. You can also drive over to Monterrey in a few minutes. Shelley is very helpful, and she went out of her way to help us replan our vacation to Carmel after I broke my foot. Great time!
We enjoyed our time at the treehouse. The location cannot be beat! Shelly was an excellent host.
My husband & I were in desperate need of a weekend getaway, Carmel was ideal. Our "Treehouse" experience was phenomenal, Shelly is very thoughtful & detail oriented. Her place was very charming and unique. Amazing location. We look forward to a near future visit, and we definitely know where to stay. Thanks Shelly for this wonderful experience.
Peaceful, quiet, and beautiful little spot near the heart of Carmel. Would highly recommend this place to all!
I rented this place for my folks and they had a wonderful time. They spent a lot of time hanging out at the beach. They told me "the beach you feel like you are in Hawaii until you touch the water. The hosts were delightful. The tree house is decorated very cool and everything was neat and clean. I was surprised to find so many amenities available in the room."
This was my second stay at Shelley's wonderful cabin. It's private, peaceful, cozy. Everything I was looking for.
This was the perfect little place, tucked away in the trees a short drive up from Carmel's shops, restaurants, and beaches. Getting to and from all the surrounding areas was a snap. As for the place itself, it was blissfully quiet and spotlessly clean. Shelley was the perfect host, providing more amenities than I'm used to getting at pricey chain hotels. In all this was the perfect spot for a short getaway to Carmel or a longer vacation with excursions to Point Lobos, Monterey, Big Sur, and more. I couldn't recommend it more highly.
Have lived EVERYWHERE, but no where long enough to call it home. Love accents from Georgia and Texas (was born in TX); love Trillium, Hosta and Ramps (from North Carolina) . . . loved living in a REAL log cabin (in Ohio) . . . and, I could eat a Mango everyday the rest of my life . . . may I be so lucky!
My brother and I love living here, as did my dad after he built our house for my mom in the 60's. Like many others in this country, Tom and I both thought we'd be retired by now. The joke's on us I guess. No matter, we've met some wonderful and interesting people while hosting Airbnb guests from all over the world. We hope you'll be one of them.
