This is Clint Eastwood's town, best known for being dog-friendly. Hidden away in the woods, our rustic cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities . . minutes from downtown, beaches and a tennis court around the corner.
ASK ABOUT OUR TWO-NIGHT SPECIAL: Book two nights and receive a discount on the nightly rate (offer good through December 2016 for two nights only ). Let me know first before actually booking and I'll manually enter the special rate of $190/night instead of $200.
You'll find our cabin is perfect for two . . . Simple. Comfortable. Cozy (250 sq ft) and Quiet -- plus minutes from downtown and spectacular sand beaches. Decorated with antique saltillos from Mexico, papercuts from a well known artist in Guanajuato, and a few other south-of-the-border items that have made their way north, the cabin has taken on a colorful atmosphere reflecting California's early settlers.
We provide a modest Continental breakfast to get you started in the morning . . . coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt and biscotti! No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot and toaster, and dishes - ideal for take out.
You'll be located on the same property as our family home, but totally detached from the house (about 50 steps down from the parking area) and with no other guests to disturb you.
We're long-time residents, knowledgeable about the area and able to help you find some of the many unique spots guidebooks don't mention.
A third person may be accommodated on a Japanese-style futon ($30/visit) recommended mainly for small children
We are Pet Friendly and would love to entertain your beloved Fido as well. However, for those of you who have allergies, please keep in mind that Pets have been in the room previously.
If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.
Also, check out my Guidebook. Don't miss the Mission San Antonio de Padua which sits in the Valley of the Oaks on what was once the Milpitas unit of the Hearst Ranch. Of all the missions, this is my favorite . . . partly because it is in the middle of nowhere and also because the restoration was more sensitive to the Mission's style . . . in other words, it doesn't look like Disneyland.
Let me know by email your approximate time of arrival. In some instances I have to be away from the house, so I'll let you know by email or leave a note on the door telling you just to "make yourself at home in the cabin."
Interaction with Guests
Along with my cat, I usually "meet and greet" guests when they arrive and my brother and I are usually around for any questions guests might have. During their stay, I prefer to allow guests their privacy. No daily maid service is available unless specially requested.
The cabin is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood facing the Pebble Beach Forest Conservancy adjacent to Pescadero, a little used road where neighbors like to walk their dogs, or where cyclists test their strength on a grueling hill full of switchbacks.
Want to look out on the forest? Want to watch birds whiz by with squirrels nearby? You can, yet we're so close to town, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the post office. Also, you might like to know Carmel has been voted one of the Top Ten Dog Friendly places in the country. WOOF! So, bring your dog.
Please check the CALENDAR tab above to determine whether we've been booked.
It's a 10 minute walk to town and a 20 minute walk to the beach. Bus routes are within a 5 minute walk. If you're coming by train, the train has a bus service which will drop you in Monterey where I can pick up and drop off guests.
Other Things to Note
As we're in the woods, those of you who suffer from severe allergies brought on by pollens or molds may not find our place suitable. We run a dehumidifier whenever possible and our vacuum has a hepa filter on it, but you still might not find that adequate. So far, in the four years we've been renting through Airbnb, only two guests have complained.
We hope you'll enjoy yourselves, but we ask that you observe or understand the following:
* Please, no smoking inside.
* Arrival after 3pm; departure before noon
* No open flames (candles etc.) allowed.
* Pets may not be left unattended and are not allowed on chairs or the bed.
* Pet bedding and food bowls to be supplied by guest. We can arrange pet sitters.
* No daily maid service.
* Left behind items returned upon request at guest's expense.
The cabin is in a very serene location about a mile uphill from the downtown area. We are very pleased that we were able to find a relaxing spot with a great view over a forested ravine. The cabin is well equipped with coffee, biscotti, fruit & a mini-fridge. We hope to return someday soon.
Shelley was very welcoming! She showed us all the necessary details of the space and was more than gracious to have us.
The space itself was clean, comfortable, and very well priced.
Shelley made sure we taken care of with regard to our accommodations, and gave us great local ideas for stuff to see and do. Location and housing was accurately descrived. Will definitely be back!
After a long drive up from San Diego we were delighted to arrive at Shelley's "treehouse." The town of Carmel provided us with wonderful wine tasting and excellent food at Andre's Bouchée. We only stayed one night but will definitely be coming back to explore this little town!
We had a lovely stay with at Shelleys place! She was a very helpful and welcoming host, who made is feel very at home. The place was exactly as pictured, with more amenities than we expected which was a nice surprise! The cabin was clean and well looked after in a lovely location. Would definitly recommend!
Ms. Jones was a wonderful accommodating host! The place was very charming and secluded while still being in the heart of Carmel. Would stay again!
I spent one night at Shelly's guest house with my 6 year old son. Shelly and her brother were very sweet ..she helped me with my impromptu plans to drive down the coast.
The place was small and very remote and isolated feeling even with neighboring houses.
I had been expecting to be situated right by the ocean judging by Shelly's photos so was surprised and regretted waiting to see Carmel's beautiful beach until after checking in at hers.
The plumbing gurgles at night as well as the mini fridge so I recommend earplugs. My son woke up in the middle of the night asking what all the sounds were.
All in all it is good for a no frills place to crash.
And the hosts are very helpful and thoughtful her brother helped me with my cooler and even brought down an extra futon mattress for my son.
I'm sorry Yohanna was disappointed in our location and the size of our guest house, but I've made it clear in the text that our guest house is only 250 sq ft and is on the edge of the Pebble Beach Forest Conservancy and a 10-minute walk to town. If she's interested in a beach house in Carmel, she'd have to rent by the month and rentals generally go from (phone number hidden)/month. As for the gurgling? . . . could it have been that the mini-fridge door was ajar? I will try to investigate the noise and that I apologize for.
Have lived EVERYWHERE, but no where long enough to call it home. Love accents from Georgia and Texas (was born in TX); love Trillium, Hosta and Ramps (from North Carolina) . . . loved living in a REAL log cabin (in Ohio) . . . and, I could eat a Mango everyday the rest of my life . . . may I be so lucky!
My brother and I love living here, as did my dad after he built our house for my mom in the 60's. Like many others in this country, Tom and I both thought we'd be retired by now. The joke's on us I guess. No matter, we've met some wonderful and interesting people while hosting Airbnb guests from all over the world. We hope you'll be one of them.
