About this listing
This is Clint Eastwood's town, best known for being dog-friendly. Hidden away in the woods, our rustic cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities . . minutes from downtown, beaches and a tennis court around the corner.
You'll find our cabin is perfect for two . . . Simple. Comfortable. Cozy (250 sq ft) and Quiet -- plus minutes from downtown and spectacular sand beaches. Decorated with antique saltillos from Mexico, papercuts from a well known artist in Guanajuato, and a few other south-of-the-border items that have made their way north, the cabin has taken on a colorful atmosphere reflecting California's early settlers.
We provide a modest Continental breakfast to get you started in the morning . . . coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt and biscotti! No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot and toaster, and dishes - ideal for take out.
You'll be located on the same property as our family home, but totally detached from the house (about 50 steps down from the parking area) and with no other guests to disturb you.
We're long-time residents, knowledgeable about the area and able to help you find some of the many unique spots guidebooks don't mention.
A third person may be accommodated on a Japanese-style futon ($30/visit) recommended mainly for small children
We are Pet Friendly and would love to entertain your beloved Fido as well. However, for those of you who have allergies, please keep in mind that Pets have been in the room previously.
If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.
Also, check out my Guidebook. Don't miss the Mission San Antonio de Padua which sits in the Valley of the Oaks on what was once the Milpitas unit of the Hearst Ranch. Of all the missions, this is my favorite . . . partly because it is in the middle of nowhere and also because the restoration was more sensitive to the Mission's style . . . in other words, it doesn't look like Disneyland.
Let me know by email your approximate time of arrival. In some instances I have to be away from the house, so I'll let you know by email or leave a note on the door telling you just to "make yourself at home in the cabin."
Interaction with Guests
Along with my cat, I usually "meet and greet" guests when they arrive and my brother and I are usually around for any questions guests might have. During their stay, I prefer to allow guests their privacy. No daily maid service is available unless specially requested.
The cabin is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood facing the Pebble Beach Forest Conservancy adjacent to Pescadero, a little used road where neighbors like to walk their dogs, or where cyclists test their strength on a grueling hill full of switchbacks.
Want to look out on the forest? Want to watch birds whiz by with squirrels nearby? You can, yet we're so close to town, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the post office. Also, you might like to know Carmel has been voted one of the Top Ten Dog Friendly places in the country. WOOF! So, bring your dog.
Please check the CALENDAR tab above to determine whether we've been booked.
It's a 10 minute walk to town and a 20 minute walk to the beach. Bus routes are within a 5 minute walk. If you're coming by train, the train has a bus service which will drop you in Monterey where I can pick up and drop off guests.
Other Things to Note
As we're in the woods, those of you who suffer from severe allergies brought on by pollens or molds may not find our place suitable. We run a dehumidifier whenever possible and our vacuum has a hepa filter on it, but you still might not find that adequate. So far, in the five years we've been renting through Airbnb, only two guests have complained.
We hope you'll enjoy yourselves, but we ask that you observe or understand the following:
* Please, no smoking inside.
* Arrival after 3pm; departure before noon
* No open flames (candles etc.) allowed.
* Pets may not be left unattended and are not allowed on chairs or the bed.
* Pet bedding and food bowls to be supplied by guest. We can arrange pet sitters.
* No daily maid service.
* Left behind items returned upon request at guest's expense.
About the Host, Shelley
I have lived EVERYWHERE, but no where long enough to call it home. Love accents from Georgia and Texas (was born in TX); love Trillium, Hosta and Ramps (from North Carolina) . . . loved living in a REAL log cabin (in Ohio) . . . and loved watching 15 foot alligators on the Withlacochee in Florida.
Now my brother, on the other hand, has gloried in what the Peninsula has to offer ever since he was very young. But, we both love living here, as did my dad after he built our house for my mom in the 60's. Like many others in this country, Tom and I both thought we'd be retired by now. The joke's on us I guess. No matter, we've met some wonderful and interesting people while hosting Airbnb guests from all over the world. We hope you'll be one of them.
