Our historic and art-filled home is close to the UW campus but is located in a quiet and pretty neighborhood. We love to comfortably accommodate our guests inviting you to use the pretty screen porch, back garden patio and well-equipped kitchen.

The Space

Our house is pretty, cozy, bright and clean (and now fully licensed by the City of Madison). We're on the desirable near-west side in quiet College Park, at the foot of historic University Heights, right on the bus line to downtown (about 7 mins.). Built in 1936, we have 3 bedrooms (and a sofa bed) and 1.25 baths. In all we can accommodate six. Our house is beautifully decorated with art and antiques and maintained with lots of attention to detail.

The three bedrooms consist of one king bed; one extra-long twin in the office; and one extra-long twin in the third bedroom (all with down comforters). A full-sized sofa sleeper (with an optional feather-bed to make it comfier) in the living room can sleep two.

For the most part, you can reserve our house for weekends, but check our calendar and inquire about longer stays, we'll try to accommodate you! Please check our other listing if you'd just like to use one of our single rooms in the house, it may be available for a nightly rate of up to $79 most any time. If that's the case, we'll set you up and leave you alone!

In the house, you'll find a great wi-fi connection; a flat-screen T.V. in the kitchen and master bedroom (plus VHS/DVD player); iron/ironing board and hair dryer. There is a stereo with iPod hook up in the living room (no T.V. there, for peace and quiet)!

Kids, we have games and books for you! We live one block away from Stevens Park, a recently rebuilt neighborhood playground with basketball hoops. We're a busy family of three who love art, music, travel, and locally sourced food and would be glad to help you find what you're looking for while staying in Madison.

Footnote: the view from the (website hidden) map from the street is not Kendall Ave. Also, Madison Airbnb hosts are now required to pay sales and lodging tax and we are in compliance with the State Health Department's laws.

Guest Access

Enjoy the entire house. The screened-in porch and patio are great for warm summer evening meals. The kitchen has everything within reach. Your mostly-organic breakfast will include delicious items, including fresh fruit, breakfast beverages, and French-press coffee or tea. If you'd like to use the garage, feel free, and laundry is in the basement. Since this is our primary residence when you're not here, please use luggage and clothes racks provided outside of our closets.

Interaction with Guests

We will definitely connect through Airbnb or email to confirm plans. If you are new to Airbnb a connection over email or the phone is nice. We'd like to know of any special requests to make your stay terrific! When you rent the entire house, we will not be there although we may meet at check in if it works for all of us.

We will help you with your itinerary or restaurant recommendations. You may even want to cook while you're here (we're very close to Whole Foods).

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is tree-lined and excellent for strolling. It's quiet but near the UW hospital and campus. Madison is also a great place for foodies! Visit one of three near-by farmer's markets on a Saturday morning for amazing cinnamon rolls, fresh goat cheeses and hickory nuts. If you like to run or walk, go to picnic point on Lake Mendota or through the beautiful UW Arboretum's gardens or wooded trails. Frank Lloyd Wright's Unitarian Meeting House is within walking distance for architectural history buffs. Of course, you can always catch some kind of Badger game, too!

Getting around

We are very close to the UW-Madison hospital (12 minute walk), and a short bike ride, bus ride or 30 minute walk to campus (through a pretty neighborhood). 20 minute walk to Camp Randall to see a UW-Madison football game. We are two short blocks from a major bus route (University Ave.), which can take you to the Kohl Center, the Capitol Square (for the Monona Terrace or Ironman), shopping at Hilldale or at boutiques along Monroe Street or just about anywhere else you want to go! We also live on a designated bike route, Kendall Avenue. Bike to campus or bike paths that take you to the beautiful city trail. You can park in our garage (one car) or on the street. Street parking is limited to 2 hours on weekdays and Saturdays, but we can help you figure it out. From the airport, you can take a short cab ride to our house, about 15 minutes.

Other Things to Note

The Sunday NY Times is delivered to the house, so feel free to enjoy it. In the summer, our Shorewood pool membership could be available to you as guests ($10 per guest). Please ask!

  • My family and I stayed at the Cozy Artists' Home over a long weekend and really enjoyed our stay! The house is incredibly charming, in a very convenient location, and was a great base for our time together!

  • We had a fabulous experience renting Samantha and Bruce's house. We were in Madison for a family members graduation from UW Madison and it was in a great location. The next block over was a park for our daughter as well. It was very clean and loved the decorations and artistic personality throughout the house. Samantha was very responsive with any questions and helpful to let us into the house by noon our first day for my daughter to nap. We really enjoyed the screened in porch area and made a meal there one night which we ate on the porch even though it was a little cool it worked great.

  • We had a wonderful stay in the home of Samantha and Bruce and Lilly. They made us welcome and we soon felt right at home. The house is filled with superb original artwork as well as books, plants, and comfortable furniture. Everything was very clean and well prepared for guests. The kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures were modern and in perfect working condition. No unpleasant surprises. The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood on the near west side convenient to shopping, downtown, and the university. Highly recommended.

  • From the moment my teenage daughters and I opened the door we felt welcome in this home. It was as if friends had prepared their house just for us. From the fresh flowers, great suggestions on where to eat, interesting books to read we felt thoughtfully taken care of. The house is also impeccably clean not impersonally like a hotel room but again like your closest friend would take the time if you were coming to stay. I can not suggest this home highly enough. We will be visiting Madison again (my niece attends University) and I am smiling thinking about my next visit to the Cozy Artist's House. Warmly, Milissa

  • Great house. Warm, clean, convenient. Hosts were thorough. Place was very clean. Easy walk to stadium and quick drive to campus. Would stay here again.

  • Very cute and comfortable house in a great location near UW campus. Clean, bright and homey. We felt very welcome and would definitely love to stay here again.

    September 2013
  • A perfect house for a perfect weekend: our sprawling family (six guests, including two children) came in from the west, Midwest and south to join us Madisonians. We were looking to have all near the famous First Unitarian Society (Frank Lloyd Wright) community which also hosts the Reconstructionist Jewish Congregation. Sam and Bruce's was within walking distance. A lovely neighborhood, a lovely house, wonderful accommodations and wonderful hosts.

  • The hosts were communicative and helpful- very easy to work with! The house was charming, though a bit small for our group of six. We didn't spend much time there outside of sleeping, though, so it was fine. There was good coffee, tea and breakfast food in the kitchen for us, which made mornings MUCH nicer! We were in town attending a conference at the Overature Center, downtown, and the house was close enough that it was a very quick drive or a leisurely walk. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend this house!

  • We stayed here for the Madison half marathon in August and it was wonderful! The house is beautiful and comfortable. The location was perfect for easy access to the campus and Sam did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome and at home. It was truly a wonderful trip. We will definitely be back! Thanks for everything.

  • This was a great little house - very cozy and wonderful color and art. The hosts left the place clean and ready for our stay, with all the information we needed to get around Madison.

We were there for a large convention, which we were organizing, and with a super hectic schedule and very early morning flights back home, we didn't leave the place in the same spotless condition we found it (many apologies to the gracious hosts). But we all appreciated the space and felt very much at home while we were there.

Good location, easy access to everything. Recommended!
