About this listing
Our historic, art-filled home is close to the UW hospital and campus, but is located in a quiet and pretty neighborhood. Madison is known for its open-mindedness, amazing farm-to-table restaurant scene, walk- and bike-ability, and lots of performing arts for the small size of the city. We're Superhosts in our fourth year and we'd love to comfortably accommodate you. (URL HIDDEN)
We love hosting and are in our fourth year. Our house is pretty, cozy, bright and clean. We're on the desirable near-west side in quiet College Park, at the foot of historic University Heights, right on the bus line to downtown (about 7 mins.). Built in 1936, we have three bedrooms (and a sofa bed) and two bathrooms (basement bathroom has utility sink, to be upgraded in 2016). In all, we can accommodate six (seven in a pinch). Our house is beautifully decorated with art and antiques and maintained with lots of attention to detail.
The three bedrooms consist of one new California king bed; one extra-long twin in the office (new mattress); and one new full bed in the small third bedroom (all with down comforters in the winter). A full-sized sofa sleeper (with an optional feather-bed to make it comfier) in the living room can sleep two.
You may reserve our house for weekends and sometimes longer stays, we'll try to accommodate you! Please check our single-room listing if its only one of you who needs a room. It is available for a nightly rate of up to $79 most any time. If that's the case, we'll set you up and leave you alone!
In the house, you'll find a great wi-fi connection; a flat-screen T.V. in the kitchen and master bedroom (plus Roku and VHS/DVD player--no cable); iron/ironing board and hair dryer. There is a stereo with iPod hook up in the living room (no T.V. there, for peace and quiet).
Kids, we have toys and books for you! We live one block away from Stevens Park, a recently rebuilt neighborhood playground with basketball hoops.
Madison is an inclusive and environmentally sensitive city. We welcome all guests and we like to recycle, compost, and use only use dye- and synthetic-free fragrances.
We're a busy family of three who love art, music, travel, and locally sourced food and would be glad to help you find what you're looking for while staying in Madison.
Footnote: the view from the (website hidden) map from the street is not Kendall Ave. Also, Madison Airbnb hosts are now required to pay sales and lodging tax (included) and we are in compliance with the State Health Department's laws.
Enjoy the entire house. The screened-in porch and patio are great for warm summer evening meals. The kitchen has everything within reach. Your organic breakfast will include fresh fruit, English muffins or granola, breakfast beverages, and French-press coffee or tea. If you'd like to use the garage, feel free, and laundry is in the basement. Since this is our primary residence when you're not here, please use the empty drawers or luggage and clothes racks provided outside of our closets (mirrors inside closet doors).
Interaction with guests
We will definitely connect through Airbnb/email to confirm plans. If you are new to Airbnb a connection over email or the phone is nice. We'd like to know of any special requests to make your stay terrific! When you rent the entire house, we will not be there although we may meet at check in if it works for all of us.
We will help you with your itinerary or restaurant recommendations. You may even want to cook while you're here (we're very close to Whole Foods and other grocery stores).
Other things to note
The Sunday NY Times is delivered to the house, so feel free to enjoy it here.
Please no smoking or pets. Treat our house kindly as there are many artworks, rugs and antiques (child friendly for well looked after kids). We would be grateful if you would remove your shoes upon entering the house. Please be mindful of keeping windows closed when the heat or A/C is on (or turn it off and open the house). If you plan to entertain guests not staying overnight, we'd be grateful to know in advance, and please clean up afterwards.

I am the executive director for a chamber music festival and love to promote the visual arts, too. Bruce is a printmaker at the UW and artist. I can't live without travel and cooking and eating great, local food. We want to make sure you have a clean and comfy place to stay and we're happy to get to know you or leave you alone!
