Cozy Suite w/ Private Bathroom

Apartment - Private room · Washington Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238, United States

The Space

The Bedroom Available:

The bedroom I am renting is the largest in a 3 bedroom apartment. It has a full size bed, private bathroom and walk-in closet. It is big, airy and comfy. It is simply decorated with luscious plants to create a peaceful haven. It also comes with an air conditioner. You will have plenty of closet space and your own private bathroom for the length of your stay. The bathroom has both a bathtub and shower.

The rest of the property:

The whole apartment is a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment located in historic Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The building has a 24 doorman, so it is absolutely secure. It also has a laundry room.

Close to bars, restaurants, the famous Fort Greene Park and it's farmers market. The area is safe and nice, close to public transportation. It has a very eclectic vibe and it is very diverse.

We have a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove and oven and a dishwasher available for you to use. The kitchen and the dining room are part of the nightly rate.

The apartment is big, artsy and inviting. We have a substantial book collection both in your private room and in the rest of the apartment that is also available for you to borrow and read. You will be sharing the apartment with 2 other awesome housemates for the length of your stay. Housemates work a lot, and this being New York City everyone is always busy and all over town. We do have two small dogs. One of them barks only when there are people at the door. (We appreciate this. Although our building and neighborhood are super safe, we like the extra security).

The Area:

The housemates happen to love sharing their knowledge of NYC with guests and will be more than happy to advise you on great nearby restaurants and things to do! We are lucky to have amazing entertainment and bookstores, beautiful parks, great coffee, food and bars all within walking distance.

Here are some of the things you can look forward to by staying here:

* 25 minutes away (door to door) from the East Village and all of lower Manhattan.
* Minutes away from the lovely Fort Greene Park on Dekalb Avenue, where you can shop for local produce on Saturday's Farmer's Markets.
* Dekalb Avenue also happens to offer some delicious fare. Try places like A Bistro, Roman's, Black Iris, Sushi D, and Chez Oskar.
* The apartment is also near some cool hangouts and coffee shops like The Outpost (beer and coffee? Yes, please), The Emerson, Hot Bird (just 1 block away), Franklin Park--all within walking distance from the building.
* The Brooklyn Museum, The Botanical Gardens, Tom's Diner--all a 15-20 minutes walk away.
* 15 minutes walk to Habana Outpost, one of the first fully sustainable restaurants in NYC, and Atlantic Mall (which has Target, Marshalls, the DMV, and all other major subways)
* Blocks away from The Green Hill Food Coop and several local/sustainable markets. Associated and another market are like 3-5 minutes walking distance.
* Close to Pratt Institute, the Brooklyn Flea, Dumbo and Williamsburg.

Accessible by several buses and trains:

Subway: Clinton Washington C (1 block away) or G (4 blocks away)

Buses: B26 (1 block away), B52 (1 block away) B38 (3 blocks away)

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • This stay was totally great. It was my first airbnb experience. Place was clean. Hosts were super nice. Good experience overall. Would do again.

    April 2014
  • Su and her sister were very warm and accommodating hosts. Their kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of pots and pans, and they even have a great little espresso maker with delicious Puerto Rican coffee for the mornings.

The bedroom had a private bathroom, which afforded us a nice measure of privacy. The bed was super comfy, and the room had lots of interesting books to browse through.

We were working from home for much of the day (as were Su and her sister), and the wifi speed worked really well for us.

The apartment is located only a few blocks from the Clinton-Washington subway stop on the C train. There were a few grocery stores, juice shops, and a bagel store nearby. Overall though, you'll likely want to walk to DeKalb St. or take the train to Williamsburg for the best of Brooklyn's fare.

One thing to note, Su has two very energetic and friendly dogs, so if you're a dog person you will love this apartment.

  • Su and Maria are wonderful hosts. Very hospitable, very warm, very friendly and great fun. Very recommended! Would definately go back!

    March 2014
  • Su and her sister were amazing! The room is just as advertised , quite large with an in suite bathroom and a large closet. Su and her sister went the extra miles as host equipping the suite with extra bedding, linen, toiletries, hangers, and plenty of fantastic books. The Wifi signal was strong, and the information was provided on a card in the room.

The bedroom entrance was right near the front door (somewhat separate from the rest of the living space of the apartment). This gave you the feeling that you were in a separate studio, not a shared apartment. I actually went some time without actually meeting my host as a result, because I didn't enter the main part of the apartment for a few days (pass my initial tour, with their friend). But so glad I did - as they were warm and friendly. One of the highlights of our interaction - was when Su needed to get something out of the closet in the room - instead of just entering it to retrieve - she contacted me and waited for me to get home - stating that it was my room, she wouldn't enter it. This just furthered my respect for her as host. I completely felt at home in this space.

The neighborhood is great - my favorite Bagel spot is across the street so you can get a .90 cent breakfast - there is also an amazing juice bar around the corner. There are multiple tea and coffee cafes in walking distance and restaurants galore (and most deliver!!). The C train is a couple of steps from the building and the G train is a few blocks away. And the street itself is very beautifully Brooklyn - with Brownstones and brick buildings. The building has a door man and an elevator (useful for over packers like me :). My only points of note are the room is a little dimly lit (bring an extra travel makeup mirror to solve that one ;)..and the two miniature adorable dogs can be a little feisty when meeting you at the door (but they settle quickly).

All in All- This was an amazing stay - I would highly recommend it! If you are looking for an authentically Brooklyn experience (coming from a former Brooklynite) - I couldn't recommend it more and definitely would look to stay here again on return trips. So what are you waiting for? Do away with any hesitation and book immediately!

  • Hi Su and Maria
It really enjoyed staying at your place! The room was spacious and clean and the en suite bathroom very convenient. ou made everything so easy: quick response at the time of booking, and always a quick and useful answer whenever I had a question. Your recommendation of the Outpost cafe nearby was spot on! What a nice place. You were both gracious and attentive hosts, easy to communicate with, and easy-going. So thank you! And please say hello to your dogs.

  • We stayed 2 weeks at Su's and it was great. The room is big, the bed confy. We had plenty of room to put our stuff. The private bathroom is a real plus. The building is nice in a very safe neighborhood (a bagel shop and a supermarket very close). 2 minutes walk from a subway station (direct line to Manhattan, 15m). Su and her sister Maria were very welcoming and respectful of our privacy. The two dogs are just adorable. We'll definitly stay there on our next trip to NY.

  • I loved this place! Su and her sister are great hosts: they are quiet and respectful of your privacy while also providing everything you will need for a stay in NYC. They also have two extraordinarily cute little dogs!

The apartment is also great: sunny, large, clean, and well-located near the subway (A/G), Bergen Bagels, Primrose Cafe, and the rest of Fort Greene/Clinton Hill. The bedroom itself was large, comfortable, and private (the bathroom provides an extra level of privacy).

I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

    December 2013
  • We spent 3 nights in Su's house and all was perfect. The communication before our arrival was fine and she prepared everything for our late (very late ;-)) arrival in NYC from Texas. The place is perfectly located, close to all the areas of interest in NYC and to the main subway lines. It also has the advantage to be more quiet than Manhattan. Thanks again to you Su' for your welcome and give a kiss to your two lovely dogs !

    December 2013
  • Everything went smoothly, and it was a wonderful room. Great shower and private bath. Kind hosts, very cute dogs, and a big room with comfortable mattress. Thanks!!!

    November 2013
  • Su and Maria were wonderful hosts! We really enjoyed our stay. The room was great, and they were super helpful with navigating the subway as non New Yorkers. They were very friendly without being intrusive. Their dogs are so sweet! We had a great time staying with them. I will definitely look them up the next time I plan a trip to NYC! =)

I feel like I'm filling out a dating profile, but alas, this must be done. I am a rabid reader and storytelling editress. I began my career as a storytelling editress in the first grade, when I composed a ditty extolling the properties of water (the forever understated life liquid). The theme that connects many of my jobs/roles that I've had and currently have is a passion for writing. Born to Puerto Rico’s colonial limbo, I moved to the United States for college and never left. I am a Renaissance baby, and I don’t mean of the freaky cherub kind. I just like doing and trying out many things. I have done kick-boxing, flower arranging, baking, cake decorating, and most recently I have gotten into vinyl (yes, those old records). As a host, I try to be friendly and welcoming. I get this from my mother who would welcome guests into our home with a basket of goodies in the guest room and cook elaborate meals for them. My housemate, and sister, is very much like that as well. We like to make people feel welcomed and like part of the family when they visit, be it for a day or a week.
