The Space

Our home is a century old Portland foursquare in the Alameda residential neighborhood of NE Portland. The bedroom is on the second floor and has a queen-size bed, desk, dresser, closet, TV/DVD player, Wi-fi, and view of the back garden. The semi-private bath with a full sized bathtub and shower is right beside it. I am a licensed massage therapist with over 25 years of experience, and my office is across the hall from the guestroom, so you will be sharing the bathroom with the occasional client. I schedule between zero and three massages per day between 9:30am and 7pm. Guests are welcome to schedule a massage if they wish.

A Siamese cat named Leo lives with us. We are his faithful staff. His name is misleading. He is very shy and you may never see him during your stay with us.

Alameda is a wonderful walking neighborhood with beautiful tree-lined streets. It was developed back in the day when builders built one house at a time instead of whole subdivisions. Every house is unique and the gardens are lovely. Alberta Street, which is chock full of boutiques, excellent restaurants, coffeehouses and tearooms, is an easy six blocks away.

Our house is six blocks from the 9 bus line to downtown Portland and ten blocks from the 73 which goes near the MAX line. There are also other bus lines within easy walking distance. There is a small shopping center with a Whole Foods Market, library, and Starbucks eleven blocks away.
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare quick, simple breakfasts and lunches. We provide a complimentary cup or two of coffee or tea in the morning, and you are welcome to use the stove, toaster, refrigerator, microwave, washer and dryer. We also supply towels and washcloths.

If you use it, clean it and put it back where you found it. If you break it, make it whole.

Because both my husband and I work out of our home we cannot accommodate children under the age of ten.

  • Chrissy and Craig have a beautiful house and the room was very nice. They are excellent hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks!

  • Chrissy was out of town, but Craig cared for us very well. The house felt homey, quiet and clean. Seemingly newly remodeled, so everything worked well. The bed was fresh and very comfortable. All our needs were readily met. We look forward to staying there again and meeting Chrissy!

  • Chrissy and Craig were excellent hosts. They made us feel most welcome and comfortable. The quiet guest room, spotless bathroom, their lovely home and neighborhood, their extensive knowledge of the city and region, interesting conversations and more added up to a trip we will remember fondly.

Sorry I forgot to ask for it.

  • Everything worked out fine. No issues.

  • We enjoyed our two-night stay with Chrissy and Craig very much. The bed was perfect for great sleeping. And they shared some newly picked peaches with us (Yumm!) and we enjoyed the French-pressed coffee as well. The neighborhood is a great place for walking and seeing the architecturally interesting (and big) houses. Their illusive cat, Leo, even graced us with his presence a couple of times during our visit. Lots of great restaurants not far away (we ate breakfast at Cup & Saucer at 30th and Killingsworth) and had lunch at Fuel on Alberta).

  • I helped book a trip for my dad and Chrissy helped us make our arrangements smoothly. She was a pleasure to meet. Here's what my dad had to say about his stay:

"My wife and I just returned from 20 days at Chrissy's house in Beautiful N.E. Alameda. The Hosts are very nice people.
The house is cold at night so bring your Pajama's.
A very safe neighborhood to walk in and close to Bus # 17.
    --The Shirley's"

    Thank you Chrissy & Craig!!

    Response from Chrissy:

We enjoyed having your parents here. Glad to know they made it back safe and sound.

  • Chrissy was wonderful and very accommodating. Their old house is so "Portland," and I enjoyed getting to see it. I would have rated my visit 5 stars, but I was there on an unusually hot day, and the upstairs room has only one (unscreened) window that opens. It was uncomfortable, so sleeping was difficult.

    Response from Chrissy:

    Many apologies, Cynthia.
I forgot to put the fan in your room, and by the time we got home that evening your light was out and I didn't want to disturb you.

My husband, Craig, and I have lived in this house for over 20 years. We've raised our 2 boys and held many celebrations here. I am a massage therapist and a writer and Craig is a geotechnical engineer. We love to travel. So far we've been to England, Greece, Italy, and Egypt and all over the US. One of the wonderful things about AirBnB is that we get to hear about all the places our guests have been.
