Opened in 2022, DuxHouse BnB is conveniently located in Taihape's Motel District on SH1. We are centrally located in the beautiful Rangitikei in the Central North Island. Tongariro NP (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is just over 45 mins away. Perfect for hiking in summer, or snow fun in winter. Central towns, such as Whanganui and Palmerston North are just over an hour away. Further afield are Napier (2hrs), Taupo (2 hrs), and Wellington (3hrs) making Taihape the perfect central pitstop.

The space
DuxHouse BnB is located in its own separate, upstairs extension at the back of our 1923's-character home. Once you enter the private suite via the stairwell you will find a hallway lined in wainscoting, a cosy media snug, a well-appointed bathroom, a generous sized bedroom with a compact kitchenette and dining area, as well as a large private balcony. Stay cool in summer / warm in winter with the floor console heat pump. Free, unlimited high-speed internet (GB fibre) is available during your stay. Our media snug features a 42” TV, set up with Amazon Fire TV, as well as Chromecast. Included are the likes of Amazon Prime, Disney+, Netflix, TVNZ, Three Now and its affiliates. Streaming offerings may change overtime. A restored local barn door separates the media snug from the bathroom. The 1x1m / 3x3 ft shower features both a rain head and wand. Enjoy the carefully sourced, complementary, local, eco-friendly toiletries in the bathroom. The kitchenette has been fitted with a 3-in-1 Air Fryer / Convection Oven / Microwave, as well as a toaster, tea / coffee making facilities (plunger / French press) and a small fridge. Cutlery and a range of crockery is available in the kitchenette. All the basics are provided for your stay, and we will take care of the dishes for you. A comfortable queen bed, with quality bed linen as well as a table and chairs complete the indoor space. The balcony has a table and chairs, as well as an outdoor light.

DuxHouse BnB has been set up to comfortably accommodate 2 adults, however being a 3-person family ourselves, a single rollaway bed or porta cot can be provided for little ones. The porta cot comes with the basic mattress; however no bedding is provided for this.

Our BnB is located in Taihape's Motel District on SH1. The iconic Gumboot is less than a 5-minute stroll. Our property backs onto the scenic Mount Stewart Reserve, home to a variety of native birds and stunning views over the rolling hills of the Rangitikei. From the observation tower, views stretch to the sandstone cliffs and the Ruahine Ranges to the south, as well as Mount Ruapehu to the north. Town is a convenient 10-minute stroll, or a 2-minute drive. When in Taihape make sure you have a go at the Gumboot throwing record down in Gumboot Lane (by the train station).

Guest access
PARKING is located down our driveway, straight through the gate in the designated parking area. Please close the gate, as we do have two friendly dogs (a labrador and a golden retriever) and a child on site. Our pets do not have access to the suite at any time, i.e. the suite is free of pet hair for those with allergies.

THE SUITE IS LOCATED UP A SOMEWHAT STEEP STAIRWELL AND HAS 16 STEPS AND THEREFORE (UNFORTUNATELY) IS NOT SUITED FOR GUESTS WITH MOBILITY ISSUES. A handrail is in place for your safety. We are happy to help carry any luggage upstairs. A baby gate is available upon request.

Other things to note
A BASIC KIWI BREAKFAST IS INCLUDED: This will be your choice of home-made toast with bacon and backyard eggs (scrambled or fried), home-made toast with spreads, porridge with fresh fruit, or a breakfast smoothie. We try to cater to dietary requirements. Breakfast will be delivered to you in the BnB at the agreed time.

LAUNDRY FACILITIES and access to the on-site PRIVATE GYM are available upon request.
