Vico del Poeta - Apartment "Lignum"

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Via Giovanni Jorgensen, Assisi, Umbria 06081, Italy

The Space

The “Vico del Poeta” is some B&B and some guesthouse: the original idea was to create a place with which satisfy all kinds of request. Long or brief stays, summer vacations or cultural stays for a week end. The main building is located in the historic centre of Assisi and offers to its guests two mini-apartments. The hospitality is characterized by an important component of kindness. Guests know that they can ask for our help in every moment: we are helpful but discreet. The apartments (close to the main square and to all the most important monuments) are in a quiet but suggestive alleyway.
Lignum is the first and bigger of our studio apartments.
It's a 40 square meters local style apartment.
The large fireplace resides in the middle of the room in front of the comfortable double bed, to which add one extra single bed or a cot. The Terra-cotta tile floors and the exposed beam ceiling completes the ambiance. The kitchen is equipped with a stove top, refrigerator and everything you need to prepare your meals. The bathroom has a sink, bidet, toilet and box shower. The adjacent laundry room is equipped with a sink, washing machine and drying rack. Of course there is a private entrance to the apartment.
The Vico has its strong point being in the same time very close to everything and in the real historical centre but also in a secondary alleyway really intimate and quiet. You feel like at home, an very relaxing home.

The Neighborhood

Via Jorgensen is a quiet and intimate alley just below the Rocca Maggiore, the ancient castle on the top of the hill where Assisi is located.
We are in the middle of the way, on the back of the church of Santa Maria delle Rose.
The danish poet J. Jorgesen chosed this small thoroughfare for his long Assisian stay.
Going trough the ancient arch (early medieval) in front of our structure, probably an ancient gate to the original village you find the nice belvedere of Santa Maria delle Rose: take a break to look to the beautiful landscape.
A few steps away down there is the cathedral of San Rufino: the frontage of the church (in particular the rose window) is one of the most known image of this town.
A rich presence of ancient details characterizes this area: we are going to meet the original core of the first roman colony, Piazza del Comune.
Go down by Via San Rufino: it's a short walk...
Here's the main square, the true heart of Assisi: the fountain, the municipal buildings and the roman temple of Minerva.

  • I really enjoyed staying at Il Vico del Poeta and Stefano was certainly the perfect host even though he was unwell at the time. He went out of his way to make sure that I had all I needed and made sure I saw or the lovely places and churches that Assisi had to offer. The studio apartment was perfect for my needs.

  • Stefano was such an amazing host. He went above and beyond during our stay by providing an extra bed for my brother on very short notice. He was nothing but gracious, welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The apartment was extremely well located, very clean, nicely decorated, comfortable and had a large selection of maps and guidebooks. Stefano left a lovely basket of fresh bread, coffee, yogurt, juice, and milk on our doorstep every morning. He also dropped us off at the train station which we greatly appreciated. We enjoyed our stay immensely and recommend Stefano's apartment greatly!

  • Absolutely charming apartment! We were happy to meet Stefano and spend a night in his place. The home is a very cozy and have a homelike atmosphere. Our fairytale stay in Assisi was enhanced by unexpected snowing and wood crackling in the fireplace.
Many thanks to Stefano for his hospitality and attention.
100% recommend this place to friends.

  • I have nothing but praise and I do not hesitate in commending this place following my 5 day stay at Vico del Poeta. Stefano is an utterly charming and obliging host. He goes out of his way to make guests feel welcome and at home. His corresponsdence leading to my visit was helpful, accurate and prompt. Clearly he loves being able to share his hospitality and imparting his skill and knowledge of Assisi with others.

The price for the acccommodation was just right in comparison to what else is available in town. The breakfasts provided were generous and more than adequate. The appartment itself was perfect. It combines both rustic charm with modern appliances. The bed was comfortable. The rest of the appartment was well fitted for a comfortable stay and was spotlessly clean. The photos show it as it is: no hidden suprises! The house is well situated in the town in a quiet lane away from the tourist trail but close enough to walk to all the major sites.

I hope to be able to visit Assisi again in the near future for an extended period and would hope to make this fine place once more my base. If you are looking for a comfortable, quiet, reasonably priced oasis on this Holy Hill, then this is the place!!

  • The experience staying at Stefano's was a kind of old-fashioned hospitality that is very rare. The apartment itself was immaculate, charming and yet functional too. It is on a very quiet street away from crowds and convenient to public transportation. Assisi is a magical town and this place is definitely a part of the magic. Stefano went out of his way to make sure our stay was going well and even invited us into his back patio for breakfast (delicious Italian coffee made to order!). He is an artist and you can tell that he goes about the business of running the bed and breakfast from the perspective of an artist. Even the way the food was laid out looked like a still life painting. Assisi is a quiet place where we assumed we wouldn't want to spend too much time and yet when the time came we didn't want to leave! Grazie Stefano!

  • Our stay at Stefano's place definitely was among the most pleasant occasions during the trip through Italy. The apartment appeared as a cosy, tastefully decorated place, very clean and tidy. Though a "proper" location is quite pointless in such a tiny town as Assisi staying in this appartment situated relatively uphill gives you good access to all the atractions as well as an exelent view over the town panorama from a terrace in few meters from the house. Breakfest was good as well - you may choose whether to get it brought to the apartment's entrance or to take it in the host's rooms, just the next door.
The host, Stefano, deserves some special gratitude since we were pleasently surprised by his measureless hospitality, desire to share some knowledge about the town and provide with any assistance.
To conclude, I highly recommend this accommodation and would like to thank its kind host one more time!

  • Stefano was an incredible host. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and made sure to help us in any way he could. Stefano met us when we arrived in Assisi and showed us the apartment. He also gave us a map of Assisi and pointed out some great places to visit and yummy places to eat. We had a lovely breakfast in Stefano's home which we enjoyed very much. We loved the apartment, everything was very clean, the bed was really comfortable, and the bathroom was really nice. The kitchen in the apartment had everything we needed to make a few meals at home. The apartment is in a great location, very close to the main square of Assisi. Stefano was so hospitable, we really enjoyed meeting him. We loved our stay here!

  • The hospitality shown to us by Stephano was amazing. He was always helpful in giving us information that we required and helping us make our travel arrangements. He served breakfast each morning in his own flat.
Stephano met us when we arrived and showed us to our accomodation. The kitchen was well equipped and we loved being there.

Hi, I'm Stefano and I'm the host of "Vico del Poeta", a little reality born one year ago. For a long time I have desired to create a job connected to my attitudes: I always liked to have guest and I like to speak with them or give advice about things I know better (in particular visual arts). I also think that details make the difference between “a well-done job” and a passion lived and runned with a right mix between heart and brain. The main idea was to join things I love (my family, the art, etc) with the possibility offered by a town like that where I live. Assisi is a place characterized by many differents faces and a lot of travellers are beginning to look for a different kind of hospitality: they are people who like also the human side of a travel experience. I think it's not anymore enough to give "services": a person wants to feel himself a person also during a trip, so with the possibility to talk and to ask a meeting with true life of place visited. The principle runned from the beginning is the reason that makes precious my job today, an “ethic” way to make business; a project who creates a pleasing equilibrium among who offers and who receive something, without to forget that everybody is a "traveller".
