This is a small house suitable for a couple (+ 1 child). It is situated directly on the beach-front.
Gorgeous views of sunrise and sunset with Mt Agung also visible.
1 bedroom with comfy queen bed, 1 living room with extra bed, 1 kitchen with fridge/freezer, gas cook-top,and large drinking water bottle, laundry, semi-open-air bathroom and terrace. The furniture is simple but adequate. There is a small garden area and great lie-back chairs for sunbathing. Interesting carved doors and window shutters
Hot water, fans and air-con,
This is private house set in the grounds of a small quiet hotel, which has a restaurant and parking.
A cleaning service is available at very reasonable cost by negotiation with hotel staff.
The neighbourhood is generally quiet mainly consisting of local small shops and restaurants which serve mainly Indonesian food with some Western dishes. The people are very friendly but do not hassle.
The nearest big shopping town and ATM is about 35kms away in Amlapura.
Motor scooter and car hire available at very reasonable rates.Public transport is by cheap local bemo - sometimes on the back of a ute! Also tourist buses go from Amed to most places in Bali.
There is no TV-(very relaxing not to know the bad news of the world!) or Wifi in the house but most restaurants have free wifi. The hotel also has wifi - negotiate payment with them.
Close to excellent diving, snorkelling and trekking ,with great swimming at all tides at your door.
Penny's beach front house is a charming little Balinese structure decorated with authentic and comfortable furnishings. There is a lot of attention paid to details (carved doors and shutters, brick walls, lighting fixtures, outdoor bathroom/garden) that surround you with the beauty that the Balinese do so well. The location can't be beat. It is situated on a quiet beach just far enough from the main road to be quiet and private but close enough for a quick walk for supplies or to restaurants. The most incredible snorkeling reef is a short walk down the beach.
The best part of the house, for us, was the front deck and garden. We spent every moment we could sitting in the two very comfortable recliners and watching the sea.
Penny was an incredible hostess, even though she was far away. She responded almost immediately to every e-mail and she has built up a support system of people on the ground in Amed that can help with any problem or request. Sonia and Salit helped us out immeasurably.
The house did require some cleaning when we arrived, as it is situated right on the beach and critters do get in (as they do all over Bali, no matter where you stay) and the cleaners seemed to have done a superficial cleaning only. Penny responded right away when we emailed her about this.
Also, we would recommend really paying attention to the time of year you visit - we were there during monsoon season and the house does not offer as much protection from the elements as a more airtight building would. That said, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again in the drier season as that wouldn't be an issue at all.
The house truly is charming and Penny was very accessible and lovely to deal with.
We stayed in this house for 4 nights.
The house is located within a small hotel Bulih Hotel.
Garden door out to the beach.
The place is quiet, close to shops and small restaurants.
Very pleased with equipped kitchen, washing machine and air conditioning.
Very comfortable bed.
It is a pity that no internet at home.
The hotel has two wonderful women live Coman and Sonia, they helped us with renting a motorcycle and a car.
Penny would like to say thanks for the great time in Amed.
Our communications with Penny were good, and she set us up with an excellent driver to pick us up and deliver us to the house. As she was not actually in Bali though we had to deal with the owner of the Hotel next door for details once we got there and he was pushy and obnoxious. His presence around the grounds made us uncomfortable and put a damper on our stay there. Fortunately there was a very friendly Austrian lady living on the grounds who helped us out a few times and she was quite pleasant to deal with (though she didn't actually work there!)
The house itself was not very clean when we arrived, and the bedroom was quite dark and musty. The sheets, blankets etc.
are VERY threadbare. Toilet function was marginal. With the exception of one night when we went elsewhere just to get away, we made it work, but it was not the pleasant, pampered experience that we had been hoping for on our honeymoon.
We actually hung out in the house as little as possible. Sorry for the bad review, but we were disappointed.
I am very sorry to hear about that and have taken my house off the calendar until I can get to Bali and sort this out. I am very disappointed that the house was not clean and welcoming and will be changing the staff and making the house and area more private. I am happy to refund some of the rental as you had such a disappointing time there.
We had a very nice time at Penny's place in Amed! It is a great location for anyone who enjoys getting away from the more popular and crowded Balinese tourist destinations. The fresh seafood, swimming, and snorkeling were fantastic! Penny helped us make connections with Putu, a local driver. Putu met us at the airport and assisted us in getting settled. He also took us to some great beaches, snorkeling spots, and cultural sites that we would have had trouble finding on our own.
