Interaction with Guests
I interact a lot with guests by mail prior to they arrival for them to be informed and prepared about any detail they need to know for exemple the best way to come to Playa from the airport.. Then when they arrive I show them where are the best locations in town and general information like supermarket, good restaurants, transportation, beaches, night life,sites...
I live at 10mn from 5th Avenue but in a safe and quiet mexican area, you sleep so good at night. At 5mn walking you have the best supermarket and the best local (safe and clean) restaurants in town. What about paying 35 pesos for one liter of fresh squeeze juice?...
My place is very easy to reach from Avenida Constituyentes close from the federal road. Outside on the street sides it is very easy and safe to park, but you do not need to rent a car if staying in Playa or even travelling. From the airport you can catch an ADO shuttle or a collective cab to arrive and downtown taxis are really cheap.
Other Things to Note
I love to receive guests as a family, give them lots of information and support and peace.
Keep in harmony with the quiet place and nice owner. Maintain the place as clean as you meet it. Smoking on the terrace only. Throw toilet paper in the basket. Do not forget to turn off light and A/C when going out. Take garbage bags downstairs in the big trash.
The Good: When we arrived at Sophie's house we were greeted by her and her friendly dog. It was late and she was very tired but she gave us a detailed tour of the place and was very sweet. We always felt welcome by her and her son Luca which was nice. We slept like babies for the most part and it was a peaceful and tranquil vibe.
The Not So Good: The place is quite a lot more run-down than we had imagined. It looks nice in the pictures which are definitely an accurate depiction but upon a closer look you can tell it is not as nice as the pictures. The one thing we noticed the most was the smell. There is a very pungent odour coming from the whole apartment. We have traveled extensively throughout South East Asia and are very familiar with the smell of very strong mould. It is like a punch in the face when you walk in the door. You must keep all the windows open at all times to keep the smell away. Also on the last night we were there the bedroom (which has a door that you MUST use to keep the mould smell under control with the air-con blasting) had a very strong sewage smell. It was so strong that it actually woke us up. We couldn't go back to sleep because it was so strong. I'm guessing by the positive feedback of Sophie's place that others did not experience this otherwise they would have mentioned something in their reviews. I'm not sure if they were having some plumbing problems while we were there but it was very unpleasant. We left very early in the morning to catch a bus so we weren't able to talk to her about this problem unfortunately. I am leaving the most honest review that I can because if you are looking for very nice accommodation then I would not recommend this place. It is definitely on the lower end of the scale which is great for travellers on a budget. Also the kitchen was far less equipped than I was hoping which was also the biggest reason we stayed there and we weren't able to cook anything so we just made salads and ate fruit.
The Saving Grace: LUCA!!! Luca was an absolutely outstanding host to us and we really got to know him well on the last night. We stayed up very late with him and had a fantastic conversation. He is so friendly and warm not to mention genuine and easy going. He answered all of our questions and did us so many favours. He was truly a gift. He made us overlook all of the less than perfect things about the room and left us feeling happy that we stayed there in the end. Overall I would say our stay in Playa was mediocre as it is not really our style but we are glad we experienced it. Thanks Sophie&Luca!
Zoe it is very sad that you did not used comunication when you were here and I could fix any problem or emergency right away rather than to describe something you were the only one to mention. We checked everything (me, the mate, the plummer and the next guests) and did not find nothing. However as it is important to listen to everybody, I took care to change the bathroom door as it gives more privacy and will take good care. About the kitchen, it is complete and well explained in the airbnb dscription. Thank you anyway.
Stayed for seven days in this cosy appartment. The rooms are very clean, the neibourhood is quite and i slept well everynight. Sadly sophie was working a lot this week an she had very few time.
I really recommend this appartement and the place at all. Everything worked that was in the description.
Excellent stay at Sophie's house. The apartment is very nice and well maintained. It is located less than five minutes from the Mega supermarket and a good selection of restaurants. 5th avenue is about ten minutes walk where you'll find all the rest of the activities.
Sophie was a great host who felt involved in making my stay as good as possible. She used to be a guide so she knows the region very well.
What a pleasure staying here. This is our first BnB experience and I'm no a true believer. Sophie couldn't have been more gracious and helpful. The space was perfect - comfortable, private and clean. The neighborhood was just as we wanted - away from the resort oriented, touristic area. Fantastic experience!!
Sophie was really nice and helpful. The location is perfect, easy walk to the beach but still in a nice quiet area.
I decided to live in Playa del Carmen 25 years ago, and I never regretted my choice. I love the country, the people, the mayan culture and the Carribean. First I was a travel agent then a guide, travel is one of the keys to discovery and learning. My origins are french, so I go there every two years to visit my family (they come often too, nobody resists the charm of Playa). I am a mother of two nice guys of 24 and 18. I love my family, my friends, my sweet dog and my garden. I cook healthy daily, have a good library and watch few movies. I study as much as I can. I graduated in Touch for Health and I love to practise kinesiology that I associate to the reiki kundalini and others techniques. I am an advanced Master of Reiki Kundalini and syntonise students. Close to my home there are several holostic centers and yoga studios that I can recommand you. I love to share informations, so feel free and welcome to ask all your questions, I'll be happy to help in english, french, italian and spanish.
