About this listing
Rustic, charming, Stable Cottage is what was once a carriage house in the early 1900s. Located in the heart of Berkeley, just around the corner from the historic Julia Morgan Theater on College Ave. which is the gateway to U.C. Berkeley's lively and inviting campus. It's less than a 10 minute walking distance to many fabulous restaurants, movie theaters, great shopping, grocery stores, library and hiking trails. Public transportation is one block away.
The Stable Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, and comfortable living/dining room. The cozy master bedroom has a sloping ceiling (triangular in shape). Surrounded by tall trees, some have described it to feel like they're sleeping in a tree house! There is wifi and a washer and dryer. While relaxing on the private deck it's easy to imagine you are in the country.
My family and I, along with our quiet, friendly dog live in the front house. We are happy to answer any questions you may have and to also honor your privacy. The Stable Cottage is a perfect little respite after a day out exploring the Bay Area!
Interaction with Guests
We greet our guests, show them the cottage and answer any questions. After that we leave our guests to themselves (unless of course they need something!)
Beautiful gardens and homes, safe, quiet, lots of families, students, a variety of churches, running track and excellent ice cream parlor. Yet within minutes you can be in a more lively part of town.
Public transportation is a 2 minute walk from the house.
Since our cottage is in a residential area, quiet after 11:00PM. Please, no shoes on in the house and no smoking.
I had a very pleasant stay at the Stable Cottage. Maryclare was great with everything -- right from when I locked myself out during the first few days (she got me help in minutes even though she was out of country!) until the end of my two months at Berkeley when she generously extended my stay for an additional day.
The apartment itself is a decent-sized one bedroom, with a very nice patio out by the side (good for small parties) and a beautiful lawn in front. A 10 minute walk to the Berkeley campus, and close to a great cafe and other amenities near the Elmwood area. I loved the place!
Comfortable, cosy, calm, within a short walk from the shops and amenities of College and Telegraph Street. Plus, Maryclare was very understanding about my checking out late. The complimentary fruits and yoghurt were a nice touch.
This was a lovely, peaceful cottage, equipped with everything we needed, and just a 3-block walk from the lively Elmwood district. It was a great base for our walking explorations of the UC campus and the other delights of Berkeley.
Maryclare and her husband where very nice and readily available to us at all times via phone and email. Location was great great great!!! Close to University, shopping and restaurants (only 3-4 blocks away). We where in Berkeley attending our daughters graduation and being close by the campus was super super convenient!! The cottage had a very cozy homey cabin feeling. The kitchen was fully equipped, which was great to be able to have meals at home. The bathroom was small but had all the essentials we needed (just bring your toiletries and hair dryer). It has open concept living/dining area with very comfortable couch and TV with cable movie channels for relaxing at end of day. My husband had to work during our stay so it was great for him to have internet access. The upstairs bedroom is a loft with very low rustic ceiling. There was plenty of storage space including closet. The bed was very comfortable. Overall we where very comfortable and had a great stay!!!!Photos are very accurate.
Thanks for your comments, Noemi. I am sorry the hair dryer was not in the cottage! It was the last time I checked, so I will look into it . I'm very sorry if it caused an inconvenience. Golly, I have people staying in there right now and I sure hope they aren't missing having a dryer! :-)
Maryclare is a very generous and caring host. I found many nice food items in the kitchen when I arrived. The cottage is nice, spacious, and yet cosy. It's in a great neighborhood, very close to UCB.
Very lovely cottage, in quiet and safe neighborhood, with everything so close by. MaryClare is so friendly and helpful, even gave us two Moth tickets in the city! Will highly recommend to friends.

About the Host, Maryclare
Hello! My name is Maryclare and I really enjoy opening my cottage to AIRBNB guests. I like meeting new people and creating safe, simple, and beautiful spaces for guests to relax in during their travels. My husband loves to garden so you will often see him working away, keeping our property beautiful. I am a yoga Instuctor at U.C Berkeley and also teach from a small studio in my house. If you are here on a day I am teaching in my home studio (and it is of interest to you) you can always ask if there is space in the class. Our household is quiet, yet friendly. We welcome you!
