LARGE BEDROOM IN LOVELY ART DECO ELEVATOR BUILDING with JACUZZI BATHROOM, EAT-IN KITCHEN, Wi-Fi & CABLE TV!
BEAUTIFUL / SPACIOUS / PICTURESQUE VIEW
Large charming private corner bedroom with high ceiling and hardwood floor in a lovely renovated 6th floor 2-bedroom apartment which is brimming with old world details! Queen-size bed with butter-soft cotton sheets (high thread count!), puffy king-size feather pillows, and charming handmade country quilt. Air conditioner / heater to keep you cool during hot summer months and toasty warm in the winter. A large empty closet awaits, so you can hang up all your clothes and feel at home.
Art Deco Elevator Building is beautifully maintained, and stands on a tree-lined block. As there are no tall buildings nearby, there is an abundance of light streaming in, and the view from the bedroom is amazing...From one window you can see the Verrazano Bridge...And from the others you can see rooftops and tree tops and the new World Trade Center being built. (Please note that along with the great sunlight and views that come with facing the street, there can be some traffic noise at times. So if you are a light sleeper, perhaps you are better off finding a dark quiet apartment in the back of a building. It's a tradeoff here in NYC!).
YOUR PRIVATE DINING & LOUNGE AREAS
There is a table right in the room for private dining while gazing out upon the gorgeous view from the windows on both sides. There's also a cherry wood coffee table for your snacks and couch with plump embroidered pillows for comfy lounging while watching TV. As I said, the room is huge!
DELICIOUS BREAKFAST INCLUDED
Breakfast of coffee/tea/cocoa with bakery muffins and our famous NYC bagels (or yogurt & fruit), milk & juice included each morning. Programmable Cuisinart coffee maker - awaken to the smell of fresh brewed coffee. I would be pleased to accommodate any special requests.
FULLY EQUIPPED EAT-IN KITCHEN
Eat-in kitchen has new dishwasher, gas stove/oven and microwave. Fully stocked with cookware, appliances (juicer, blender, etc.) and tableware that you are welcome to use. I will wash all dishes for you during your visit!
LUXURY DESIGNER BATHROOM W/ JACUZZI
Luxury designer bathroom has oversized glass steam shower with jacuzzi tub, deep sea blue glass "waterfall" sink, blue glass tiled walls and heated floor (during colder months)! Plush cotton bath sheets (oversize towels) and fluffy bath rug to pamper you from head to toe!
24-hour windowed laundry room in basement has new washers and dryers.
This is the Kensington neighborhood, just below Park Slope, so it is hip and very convenient. Just 2 blocks away, there is a great new cafe/wine bar, and a delicious inexpensive diner. There is also an International grocery store with fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as delicacies from around the world. Down on Cortelyou Road you will find a sweet collection of shops and restaurants like those in Park Slope.
It's just a 5 minute walk to the subway if you exit through the back door, and then only a 20 minute ride on the F train to Manhattan's Lower East Side (with many more hip restaurants and music clubs). 30 minutes to Midtown Manhattan. You can also take the G train directly up to Williamsburg (20 minutes), Greenpoint, and Long Island City (30 minutes) to experience the "Hipster" scenes there as well.
The subway is full of young people traveling at all hours. The walk here from the Church Avenue F/G train stop along Beverley Rd is lovely – with its quaint large old houses and front yard gardens – and it is safe even late at night.
In fact, the whole neighborhood is very safe. One of my guests was only 19 years old, from a far away country, and she seemed to be quite happy and comfortable here.
In addition to young professionals in their 20s and 30s, there are many families with young children and elderly parents living here...It is such a great little community! Quite an interesting mix of cultures, as Old World meets New. In addition to the afore-mentioned hip restaurants, there is also cuisine from around the world. I really love it here.
Come enjoy all NYC has to offer, including live performances at BAM, Museum, Aquarium and Botanical Gardens right here in Brooklyn.
Please note that I have 3 cats, so if you don't like cats or you're allergic to them, this is not the place for you!
I moved in not too long ago, so the place isn't perfect yet - some of the trim is primed but not painted, etc.
24-Hour Access to Building, Apartment (with eat-in kitchen, fridge, gas oven/stove, microwave ) and Laundry Room.
Interaction with Guests
I interact with guests as much – or as little – as they wish.
Safe residential culturally-rich neighborhood with pockets of cool new restaurants, wine bars, and shops.
Subway is a safe residential 5 minute walk from back door of building.
Other Things to Note
One queen size regular bed and one full size futon couch bed. All provided: Sheets, towels, soap/shampoo/conditioner/lotion/toothpaste (no need to bring your own unless you like a special kind).
Again, please note that I have 3 cats, so if you don't like cats or you're allergic to them, this is not the place for you!
You are free to come and go as you please, 24 hours/day!
Please keep your bedroom door closed at all times to keep cats out.
It was a wonderful experience. Vava made me feel welcome by greeting and showing me my private room when I arrived. The large room was clean and inviting. I was given house keys and told I could come and go as I wanted. I could see the Verrazano Bridge and the new Freedom Tower. The room was air conditioned, had Wifi and a TV. It was easy to walk to the subway, public bus or get a meal. I felt safe in the neighborhood.
Vava was the perfect host. She was very responsive to all requests. She also respected your privacy. The room was spacious and met all the needs. The shared bathroom had a great shower, etc. Including toiletres.
Vava provided breakfast settings including coffee, milk, bagels, etc. She even cleaned up the dishes.
Thank you Vava
Vava was an excellent host! She provided excellent directions on getting to her place and the location is pretty easy to find. Parking is prime in this area, but I was able to find decent parking close to the room (decent as in, I had enough space to get out without hitting the car in front of me, something that Brooklyners seem to do without fear!).
Vava made me feel very welcome, helped me become familiar with everything (including that awesome shower), plus she provided information and directions on how to get to local eateries and train stations in the area and had maps to help out. She asked what I would like for breakfast and the next morning it was ready and absolutely delightful.
The room is very spacious, bright, tidy and she had fresh towels laid out as well as information on sites in the city. The views from the windows are excellent and the bed was super comfy. I also liked having the couch and table, so I could work on my laptop while watching the local news. I also loved her cats, who are very friendly (though some are shy) and they made me feel quite at home. They will only go into the room if you let them, otherwise they will just stay outside and do their thing.
I was there for work, so Vava gave me my space and the wifi worked out pretty well. Luckily, I finished work early and was able to go to the city. Her place is in between the F train and Q train, both of which go to Manhattan. Feel free to walk in this neighborhood, because it is quite safe and tidy, and the stations are within walking distance.
Have no clue about the trains here? Me neither, but I asked at the station where the people were really helpful and by the end of the day, I was a pro and had a great time.
Next time I have to go back to NY, I will definitely book at Vava's. You can't beat the large room, safe neighborhood, proximity to the trains, and that shower!
Wonderful stay with Vava. Nice room, lots of light. Good breakfast. Charming cats. The tv works. She's a wonderful and warm host. I hope to stay here again if I am in NYC.
Vava is a very thoughtful and kind host. She left food and snacks for us, gave us directions to good local restaurants, and always made sure we were comfortable.
Thanks to Vava, for fine days with you in New York. I and my daughter were well received by you. The apartment was fine in relation to the metro. Vava put forward breakfast for us every day. We will gladly return. Best from Reidar and Maria Hernes from Norway
