About this listing
Our family friendly casita Los Tucanes, surrounded by plants and birds, sleeps 6. 10 minutes to Los Suenos, Jaco, or ocean. A zip line is up the road and Manuel Antonio an hour away. Whether you seek relaxation or adventure, you will find it here.
Our two bedroom casita in Costa Rica can sleep 6 and is 1 1/2 hours from the airport in San Jose, 10 minutes from Jaco (great surfing and beaches), 5 minutes from Los Suenos marina and golf course, and 1 hour from the beautiful national park Manuel Antonio and 30 minutes to Carrera National Park, a fabulous spot for birding. A zip line is just up the road from us. In the town of Herradura are restaurants with inexpensive, typical Costa Rican food. It is five minutes to the main highway where there is a brand new shopping center with an American type grocery store. In nearby Jaco there is a farmer's market weekly.
Buses are how most Costa Ricans travel. It would be possible to use buses, but you'd have to walk to the stop on the main highway, which is a ways, as our casita is outside of town, dead ending in the jungle. We rent cars when we stay in Costa Rica.
Our casita is one in a small development of 13 homes outside the charming, friendly town of Herradura. There is a small SHARED pool available for use and 24/7 security. NOW we have a cement table and benches and a charcoal bbq for your use. We have seen toucans, macaws, hummingbirds, sloth, and more on the property. We can connect you with the best birder in Costa Rica, if birding is your thing. We can point you to $5 Costa Rican typical meals or delicious international cuisine, in Los Suenos and elsewhere. Beautiful setting. Pura vida.
A shared swimming pool.
Sightings of macaws and toucans.
Adventure or relaxation - your choice.

Marsha's Casita a wonderful way to experience Costa Rica without all the glitz and glamor of the tourist industry. It is situated in a adorable little expat neighborhood 1/2 mile from a grocery store and a mile from a larger grocery store with anything you may be longing for from home. A quick trip via car or bus (also half a mile from home) will take you to Jaco or Herradura Beach. If you have any inclination or desire to try Costa Rica as an expat, this is an excellent home to try!
Neighbors will welcome you and help you land on your feet easily. I loved weekly walks to the local farmer's market, where inevitably I would run into someone I knew. We were also just a 5 minute walk away from a fantastic zip line, which our visiting friends used often. If you are without a vehicle your daily options are limited (basically grocery shopping, zip line, and a couple of local restaurants unless you bus to Jaco). It is about an hour's walk to the beach but only 10-15 min via bus, which comes hourly (and more often on weekends).
Cristian, the property manager, set up transportation for us and was easily available and accommodating to our needs. He can even provide maid service upon request.
The kitchen is well stocked with a variety of baking and cooking tools and the knives were quality and sharp - which is rare to find in vacation rentals. Everything in the house was in pristine condition; this is quality living in the jungle!
Leaving the friends we made there was a surprising and challenging part of our trip, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!
This was the perfect location to explore the Jaco area. We needed a 2 bedroom house while my parents were visiting (we live in CR) and this was the perfect spot. It is very close to everything (10 minutes to Jaco and other nearby beaches) and convenient to the airport in San Jose. The house is located away from the hustle and bustle of the development near the beach and sits in a really cute neighborhood, backed by jungle, with both locals and vacationers nearby. The small housing complex is gated and there is a maintenance guy who lives onsite, keeping the property in really good shape, and also keeping an eye on things. He was always waiting near the gate when we came back from dinner (when it was dark) and he was so nice! The house was also very well equipped so we had everything we needed to cook etc, there is even a small charcoal BBQ. Also really important for us was that the internet was really fast and reliable. My parents also really enjoyed the location and got to see monkeys and some Scarlet Macaw parrots right near the house. Overall it was the perfect spot for us!
Marsha's house is wonderful. So new and clean and everything you need. I would definately recommend it and would stay there myself again. Thanks Marsha

My husband and I love Costa Rica. We've been traveling there for 10 years. Now we have a lovely casita where we enjoy relaxing and playing, but we aren't there all year long. So, we want to share it with others who love to find new and wonderful places to explore.
