In the private guest wing of the house there are 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Bedroom 1 is set-up with a queen sized bed and has an en-suite bathroom. Bedroom 2 has two single beds and also has an en-suite bathroom . The third bedroom has 3 single beds and also has its own bathroom and a separate toilet. The property is home to Andrea and Gordon Roper, Shadow the dog, Helga the horse and some chooks. Both Andrea and myself are keen bikers and we welcome other motorbike riders. We can provide undercover parking for your bikes and can direct you to some of the best motorbike rides in WA; good roads, beautiful scenery, lots of bends and not a lot of traffic.
So, for a relaxing stay, or as a base for riding or exploring, come and experience what the SW has to offer.
We can cater for up to seven guests in 3 rooms or you can book one, two or 3 rooms. Please note that we only take one booking per night so whether you book as a couple, a group of friends, or a family, you will have sole occupancy of the entire guest wing of the house.
The room price of $120 is based on one or two adults and includes supplies for a self serve breakfast (bread/toast, spreads, tea/coffee, cereal, bacon, eggs and juice). For any more than 2 guests in one booking we charge $50 per person with a maximum fee of $270; so a couple alone would be$120, 4 people would be $220 people and 5 to 7 people would be $270. Please note that these room rates are for groups of adults. We do not charge for children under 5 and we have reduced rates for families; Please contact us for a price.
The guest guest wing has it's own private entrance and all bedrooms enter off the open plan guest lounge/dining/kitchen. The lounge has access to the verandah and spa. The guest area is completely separate from the owners area.
Interaction with Guests
We interact as much or as little as the guests want; with some guests we have shared drinks or a BBQ and swapped travel stories over a wine or three but if you just want to veg out in private; that's fine too.
Black George House is a rural property and you will wake to the sound of birds and cows and look out at trees from the verandah but you are only a short distance from wineries, shops and restaurants
We're in the country so you'll need your own transport but we have plenty of parking, including undercover parking for motorbikes.
Other Things to Note
We have very patchy mobile coverage but their is a land-line phone in the guest lounge that you are welcome to use for local calls. Our wireless internet is satellite so is usually reliable and there is no password required.
We're not big on rules; just treat the house with respect and have a good time. If you bring your pet, we would prefer that it is not allowed in the bedrooms but it is perfectly welcome in the living areas (the living area is tiled but the bedrooms are carpetted)
AWESOME! Black George House is everything it promises to be and MORE! George is very friendly and welcoming. Shadow (George's dog) is equally friendly and always ready to play.
George stocked the fridge and pantry with basic breakfast foods/ingredients for us including a fruit bowl! He also had a roaring wood fireplace going in the living area of the guest section of the house to help us warm up. On top of all that, he helped patch-up a breaking shoe!
The heated spa/jacuzzi outside was also amazing, especially after spending a whole day out in winter.
If you're looking for a place in Manjimup area, I strongly recommend the Black George House! TEN stars! (even if the meter only goes up to five). Close enough to Manjimup town, the Diamond tree, Gloucester tree and the Western Ranch horse back riding. A day trip away from Walpole and the valley of the giants.
DO follow George's directions carefully as they are the best and easiest way to get to the house.
Gordon's place was gorgeous! A really friendly couple who made us feel at home right away. We also loved the company of Shadow :) thanks for having us! We had a great evening and also had the chance to star/moon gaze!
My girlfriend and I came here for 2 nights over the long weekend for WA Day and had such a great stay. We loved the country location of the property and as for the property itself it has everything you but it's all the little touches that make it such a great place to stay. The friendliest hosts and dog ever! Plenty of supplies left in the kitchen (bread, milk, eggs, cereal, etc.) and a TV, iPod docking station, DVDs, pool table and board games.
We loved the place so much that we cut one of our day's sightseeing short so we could get back early and sick out on the front deck for the afternoon just relaxing and playing with Shadow.
On our second night there we split a bottle of wine while sitting in the spa, amazing!
We left feeling rested and refreshed!
The accommodation is accurate as described with a spacious common area. Gordon is friendly and prepared the fireplace before our arrival. His dog, Shadow is friendly and we totally loves the surroundings.
It is as described,Gordon is a great host, will definitely recommend other people to stay here.
We felt very welcomed from the moment our car pulled into the driveway - first by the dog and then by Gordon.
He showed us around the house, which had the fireplace already lit and the place warmed up. I'm very surprised at the well-stocked fridge which contains our breakfast supplies - bacon, eggs, bread, milk, and even showed us where he picked up the eggs for us from - his very own chickens at the back of the house.
The place is very spacious, lots of books, DVDs and games available for the family, with space to run around, and a pool table to top it off. There's also laundry and WiFi - perfect for a travelling family.
Shadow, the dog, is very friendly and we all loved him. The kids had fun playing with him and couldn't bear to leave him behind when it's time to go.
The place is located in a quiet hill with little mobile signal, although it's not surprising given the rural location, so the WiFi is a big plus.
Gordon and Andrea are very friendly, and as they have described, they are not big on rules. They even allowed us to stay as long as we liked but unfortunately, we had to leave early the next morning to move onto our next destination.
The place isn't hard to find using GPS, if you have done the homework properly by following the instructions provided and marking the correct spot on the map.
It's definitely a very reasonable rate for what has been provided and we look forward to staying again if and when we go back to the area.
About the Host, Gordon
58 year old motorcycle fanatic and Deputy Principal at a Manjimup school. Married to Andrea who teaches music at another local school. Both Andrea and I love music, wine, food, books, animals and motorbikes - not necessarily in that order.
We have both travelled extensively, both within Australia and internationally, with India and Africa being our favourite places, so far.
