Interaction with Guests
We interact as much or as little as the guests want; with some guests we have shared drinks or a BBQ and swapped travel stories over a wine or three but if you just want to veg out in private; that's fine too.
Black George House is a rural property and you will wake to the sound of birds and cows and look out at trees from the verandah but you are only a short distance from wineries, shops and restaurants
We're in the country so you'll need your own transport but we have plenty of parking, including undercover parking for motorbikes.
Other Things to Note
We have very patchy mobile coverage but their is a land-line phone in the guest lounge that you are welcome to use for local calls. Our wireless internet is satellite so is usually reliable and there is no password required.
We're not big on rules; just treat the house with respect and have a good time. If you bring your pet, we would prefer that it is not allowed in the bedrooms but it is perfectly welcome in the living areas (the living area is tiled but the bedrooms are carpetted)
Our family really enjoyed our two night stay at Black George House. The home was large, clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Gordon and Andrea were wonderful hosts and provided a delicious assortment of brekkie supplies including cereal, fruit, milk, juice, bacon and free range eggs. The property was very peaceful and the spa, pool table, and their lovely dog Shadow, made our family getaway extra enjoyable. The kids absolutely loved it so I'm sure we'll be back :)
When we first arrived at the property, we were overwhelmed by Shadow’s passionate welcome and Gordon’s friendly introduction to his property, the fire place was already lit and warm for our arrival. Shadow is Gordon’s dog, he is big, gentle and smart. We were first worried that our two overly excited little kids might get hurt by such a big dog but that worry was quickly putted to rest by Shadow’s gentle manner once the initial excitement die down. He treated my 2 boys as part of his pack. He waited at our door for them to come out and play every morning and took us for a walk around the property. He even showed us the cows and how he teased them to charge at him. I think that was the best memory the kids had on this trip. Gordon was very helpful providing us the valuable local knowledge regards where to eat and see. He even provided us with extra firewood for those cold nights. We had great fun doing bit of off road car trekking among the karri forest and surrounding local fresh produces including a must truffle farm visit for bit of wine tasting. Thanks Gordon. Hopefully we will be able to bring some friends and family so visit again.
Gordon & Andrea are wonderful hosts. It was nice of them to even provide some cereals etc for our consumption. Indeed we have spent too little time at this splendid place.
Shadow was such a friendly dog and do not forget to check out the night sky!
Thanks Gordon & Andrea for the amazing experience!
Very welcoming host. Very friendly and amazingly generous with what is provided upon arrival - enough for breakfast for every morning we stayed (eggs, bacon, bread, butter, jam, orange juice, milk...) and also a burning fire so we were immediately nice and cosy.
The setting is great and exactly what we wanted - a comfortable location in the country where we could relax in peace but be close enough to see some sights (Pemberton, Manjimup).
Highly, highly recommended!
Fantastic place! Great breakfast goodies for us too... what a suprise to find fresh eggs and bacon in the fridge. Lovely place with a cute fireplace. Thanks for the hospitality. Your dog Shadow is dearly missed by Charlie. We will definitely stay again.
AWESOME! Black George House is everything it promises to be and MORE! George is very friendly and welcoming. Shadow (George's dog) is equally friendly and always ready to play.
George stocked the fridge and pantry with basic breakfast foods/ingredients for us including a fruit bowl! He also had a roaring wood fireplace going in the living area of the guest section of the house to help us warm up. On top of all that, he helped patch-up a breaking shoe!
The heated spa/jacuzzi outside was also amazing, especially after spending a whole day out in winter.
If you're looking for a place in Manjimup area, I strongly recommend the Black George House! TEN stars! (even if the meter only goes up to five). Close enough to Manjimup town, the Diamond tree, Gloucester tree and the Western Ranch horse back riding. A day trip away from Walpole and the valley of the giants.
DO follow George's directions carefully as they are the best and easiest way to get to the house.
