Luxurious, self contained accommodation in the magnificent south west of WA, catering for 1 to 7 people. Perfectly situated for exploring the forests, wineries and many attractions of this spectacularly beautiful area.
Black George House is a rural property located in the beautiful Karri forests region in the SW of West Australia. Set on 7 acres the property is only 10 minutes from Manjimup, 15 minutes from Pemberton and 45 minutes from Nannup and Bridgetown. The Walpole Tree Top Walk and Margaret River Wine Region are also both easily accessible as day trips.
In the private guest wing of the house there are 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Bedroom 1 is set-up with a queen sized bed and has an en-suite bathroom. Bedroom 2 has two single beds and also has an en-suite bathroom . The third bedroom has 3 single beds and also has its own bathroom and a separate toilet. The guest wing also has a lounge, dining area, laundry with a washer and dryer, and a fully equipped kitchen.- (microwave and cooktop, all crockery and cookware, but no oven). The guest lounge has a TV with video player, library (books, CDs and videos), a pool table and a sound system.
Outside, on the 4m wide verandah, is a 6 person heated spa, a BBQ and beautiful views over the forest.
All bed linen, doonas and towels are supplied and we also stock the fridge for your first day with breakfast supplies - bread, eggs, bacon, milk, cereal, butter, orange juice, fruit, tea and coffee.
The property is home to Andrea and Gordon Roper, Shadow the dog, Helga the horse and some chooks. All our animals are friendly and guests are welcome to bring their own dogs provided that they are also friendly. There is a running line and a secure pen where pets can be left if you go somewhere and wish to leave them.
There are many wineries, restaurants and attractions within easy reach of our property and we are more than happy to provide advice and directions.
Both Andrea and myself are keen bikers and we welcome other motorbike riders. We can provide undercover parking for your bikes and can direct you to some of the best motorbike rides in WA; good roads, beautiful scenery, lots of bends and not a lot of traffic.
So, for a relaxing stay, or as a base for riding or exploring, come and experience what the SW has to offer.
We can cater for up to seven guests in 3 rooms or you can book one, two or 3 rooms for $100 per room. Please note that we only take one booking per night so whether you book as a couple, a group of friends, or a family, you will have sole occupancy of the entire guest wing of the house.
The room price of $100 is based on one or two adults and includes supplies for a self serve breakfast (bread/toast, spreads, tea/coffee, cereal, bacon, eggs and juice). For odd numbers of guests we charge $50 per person so 3 people in two rooms would be $150 etc . Please note that these room rates are for groups of adults and we have reduced rates for families with children and for bookings of a week or more.
The guest bedrooms all enter off a private guest lounge and kitchen. The lounge has access to the verandah and spa. The guest area is completely separate from the owners area, connected by bifold doors.
Interaction with Guests
We interact as much or as little as the guests want; with some guests we have shared drinks or a BBQ and swapped travel stories over a wine or three but if you just want to veg out in private; that's fine too.
Black George House is a rural property and you will wake to the sound of birds and cows and look out at trees from the verandah but you are only a short distance from wineries, shops and restaurants
We're in the country so you'll need your own transport but we have plenty of parking, including undercover parking for motorbikes.
We're not big on rules; just treat the house with respect and have a good time. If you bring your pet, we would prefer that it is not allowed in the bedrooms but it is perfectly welcome in the living areas (the living area is tiled but the bedrooms are carpetted)
We really enjoyed our stay at Black George House. Gordon and Andrea showed us where everything was, then gave us our privacy. The rooms are pretty much as per the photos and there was plenty of space. The provisions in the fridge were more than adequate for breakfast and we even had fresh eggs from their chooks. The only downside is that there is no mobile reception, so hopefully you won't need to ring anyone. There is wi-fi, but it was a bit slow at times. This would be a great place for a group of friends as the bedrooms all come off of the main area and you can hang out, then retreat to your own room. There is also a hot tub, but we didn't end up using it in the end...maybe next time :-)
We had a simply fabulous time at Black George House. The setting is lovely, and the hosts, Gordon and Andrea, made us feel very welcome. Shadow their dog even entertained our dog, Tyson. Five of us stayed there, and we agreed that we felt relaxed just sitting on the verandah enjoying the lovely view. The rooms were comfortable and facilities excellent, and the spa was very therapeutic.
Although we had plans to do some sightseeing around the area, we were so comfortable there, and enjoyed its bushland setting so much, that we opted to just stay at the house and enjoy the ambience.
Gordon and Andrea were perfect, and generous, hosts. Black George House exceeded our expectations and we all decided that this stay was far too short.
We loved the location of this country house. Hosts are welcoming and generous help yourself breakfast. Highly recommended!
Great accommodation. Sparkling clean, atmospheric location, recreational options and special homely touches. Excellent value.
Gordon welcomed us on arrival and the place was perfectly located. It was such a gorgeous place surrounded by trees. The bottle of wine was a lovely surprise!
Alojamiento increible, nos hemos sentido como en casa. Gordon y Andrea son muy amables, nos han invitado a cenar y nos han dado informacion muy interesante. Muy recomendable.
When you arrive at Black George house the warm welcome recieve, firstly by Shadow with Gordon and Andrea not far behind you know you have arrived at your home away from home. Gordon and Andrea are the most amazing hosts and make you feel most welcome. They're always happy to provide a recommendation (they were spot on every time too!) and no request was ever a concern for them.
57 year old motorcycle fanatic and deputy principal at a Manjimup school. Married to Andrea who teaches music at another local school. Both Andrea and I love music, wine, food, books, animals and motorbikes - not necessarily in that order.
We have both travelled extensively, both within Australia and internationally, with India and Africa being our favourite places, so far.
