This was an absolutely gorgeous apartment in a prime location and with some of the most comfortable mattresses.. I can't stress enough how amazing the location was and the rooftop terrace with a view of the church was amazing too. Thank you for hosting us in your lovely home. It gave a true San Miguel feel and we enjoyed out time so very much!
Patricia is not kidding, this really is the best rentable apartment in town. The location is PERFECT, half a block from the Jardin, the town square. There are restaurants and shops everywhere. The apartment is large, comfortably furnished, and has every amenity I could have wanted - including a TV with at least 20 English-language channels.
I considered another apartment at first, but it was up one of the hills, and I am SO glad I chose this one instead. I was so close to town that I was forever wandering around it, knowing my place was just blocks away. I think if I had stayed in the hills I would have seen a lot less of the town, just from the hassle of walking back and forth or taking a cab all the time.
I was a bit worried about the noise other people wrote about, but the bells never bothered me, and I only heard fireworks once, on Saturday night at maybe 2am. The master bedroom has walls of solid concrete, so it's super quiet.
Be aware that Patricia also provides a huge cooler full of bottled water, an essential in Mexico, so you don't need to buy your own.
There are a few things to be aware of. The apartment itself has no real view, but the photos aren't misleading. The living room looks out on a quiet inner courtyard on one side and on the wall of an adjoining apartment on the other. The towers of the churches on the Jardin can be glimpsed over the wall. The master bedroom and smaller guest bedroom both look out onto a courtyard that seemed to be used as a parking lot by a hotel next door, but was totally quiet. Still, all the rooms get plenty of light, and the views are not ugly or anything. The real view is from the roof terrace, on top of the apartment, and it's as stunning as the photos suggest.
Also, do be aware that the apartment sits on top of a commercial building, so you enter through a communal main door facing the street, pass through an old lobby with ceilings probably thirty feet high, and then climb a large, old tile staircase up two flights to a landing where the door to Patricia's two apartments is located. when you pass through that door, you're in another world, with trees, birds singing, and plants, flowers and decorations everywhere. She has made a huge effort to make the place attractive and homey.
I would recommend Patricia's pretty, quiet, spacious, comfortable apartment to anyone without reservations, as long as they're physically able to climb the two flights of stairs necessary to reach it.
The location of the apartment is excellent, just half a block to El Jardin, the public plaza. We caught the last of the Christmas Festivities, including the arrival of the Three Wise Men and the giving of presents to the children. Lots of restaurants, etc. nearby. Cafe Bagel is downstairs. El Correo restaurant is also near and serves traditional Mexican dishes.
Cons are the noise from the Cafe downstairs, the church bells, local festivities, etc. We were fine with the noise, but suggest earplugs for those who are sensitive to noise.
I can recommend Garufa's for Argentine steak, and Tio Lucas for steak. Hank's is great for seafood and really anything it serves.
Our trip to San Miguel de Allende was magical, it was my first time to San Miguel and it was awesome. Patricia's house was centrally located and easy to find from the jardin. The view from the terrace was simply awesome. The house it self was really nice, my only regret was that I was only in San Miguel for one day. I would recommend this place to any of my friends or family.
Patricia and the apartment in San Miguel were the highlights of my trip.
What a wonderful place, and Patricia (and Shaun) could not have been more lovely and accommodating.
We were a group of 4 (a couple and 2 friends) and it was more than comfortable for us.
The apartment is very spacious, lovely high ceilings, Mexican decor'ed kitchen and bathroom, and a nice warm open feel.
The location could not be more perfect for a trip to San Miguel. It is viewing distance from the main square and cathedral, and walking distance from hundreds of great restaurants, roof-top bars and markets.
The best bit though was the rooftop.
This is honestly the best view in San Miguel, with lots of space, tables, siesta couches and shade.. this rooftop provided some great cocktail and siesta time after lots of walking and exploring.
And if you ask nicely, the bagel shop below will deliver to the roof!
Couldn't recommend this place more to anyone.
