Better than a Juneau Hotel - one room, double-sized bed, next to bathroom, in a quite home next to a salmon steam in the valley of Juneau, Alaska. The room is clean and comfortable with a kitchen accessible and all the housing amenities.
The house comes with a fireplace / burning stove and a cat that is very friendly, loves company and showing off in the trees and strawberry patch out front. Lots of space for your car, boat or whatever you might bring along. Lots of hot water for long showers or baths.
We're in a residential neighborhood just minutes away from Mendenhall Glacier and Lake. Shopping centers and airport are also a few minutes' drive away, and there are good biking trails and a bus stop nearby.
The coho salmon jumping about in the neighboring stream outside your window can attract bears sometimes, so be sure to check the area before leaving the house!
For something to do, I am a part time whale watch captain. Check out this site for an idea of what it's like: Whale Watch (website hidden). You are welcome to borrow my bicycle and head to the Mendenhall Glacier if you like, if I am not using it, just let me know and I can give you the code to the lock. It is an amazing trail to the glacier from where we live.
The movie theater is also not far away, less than 2 miles. Safeway and gas stations are 3 miles away as well.
Down town is 7.9 miles away where there is a tram, another movie theater, and tons of shopping and bars. The capitol building is there as well as numerous docks and beautiful boats to look at.
You can find out more about me by checking out my movie which is showing on PBS called Smokin' Fish. This is the shorter version. We also have a slightly longer version called the director's cut.
Please consider our warm cozy home when looking for a Juneau hotel. You won't be disappointed.

The house was a wee bit tricky to find, as we arrived after dark, by taxi from the airport to the house. However, it wasn't immediately obvious which was the right house. Fortunately I'd had a look previously on a well known street viewing app, so had a rough idea.
But we had to ask several neighbours first, and received a warning about avoiding bears if you're walking round in the dark.
The taxi driver was quite concerned, and didn't depart until he was sure we'd found the right house.
Sarah was very welcoming, though maybe a little unsure of her role as deputy host, but when I'd cut up some wood for the woodburner, we were soon warm and comfortable.
The house felt like home almost immediately.
Sarah was very helpful and offered useful advice; showed us around, and joined us for a very wet but worthwhile walk up to Mendenhall glacier, and also advised us on bear avoidance, and on some interesting places to visit.
We had to fend for ourselves a bit. No problem though!
On a quiet road, friendly, small space down a private hallway, just what you need.
This was my first experience using Air bnb. The process for booking was very easy. Cory was out of town when we stayed but he corresponded very well via messages through the app. There were no real surprises and his cat was great! His friend Sarah was also helpful and made sure we had what we needed. Definitely worth the price he charges for the room. One would be hard pressed to find lodging in Juneau for that price.
Agree with the other reviewers. The accommodation was easy to find and Cory was also away when we were there but Sarah was there to help us with anything we needed which was nice. There was a peculiar musty smell in the house that we noticed when we got there but we didn't notice the smell so much when we settled in. We would compare the stay being guests in a friends' spare bedroom. It was a good price for Juneau.
Changed plans--ended up not staying at this time. Later experience was good.
It was one of my strangest airbnb experiences. But it was very pleasant at the same time. When we arrived Cory was out and stuck in Canada. But we found a message on airbnb where the keys were and the wish we should use the whole house as it was our own, what we did. All the time there was a perfect communication by messages online. We found all we need: bus schedule, maps ... The house is well communicated to downtown by bus and the famous glacier is on walking distance. When we went back someday, we will stay there again. Thanx a lot Cory.
Really enjoyed my stay. Cory, his housemate Sarah, and their cat Trouble were all friendly hosts. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the location is convenient to the bus system. I was able to comfortably walk to Mendenhall Glacier. Also there is good wifi which was important to me as I needed to connect to work while traveling to Juneau. Cory also has provided great resources for guests such as maps, restaurant information, public transit information and a list of area establishments offering public internet access.
A nice and cosy room near to Mendenhall Gracier and Auke Bay. Nearby bus stop makes it very convenient to go to downtown Juneau. And I love the cat Trouble!
