Charming, sunny, large and open living room and adjacent deck with a breathtaking views of the bay, Bay Bridge, Berkeley and Oakland. Recently renovated Victorian, hardwood floors, lots of space. We have no bathtubs but do have a hot tub!
This is the master bedroom of a 3 bedroom of 3rd flight flat. (there are about 35 steps, but the view makes it worth it) There is a private bathroom, queen bed (a bit lower than most, almost futon-style but more comfy), mini-fridge, largeTV with full cable and a DVD player, coffee maker, hair dryer, and a large closet.
The building is an 1907 Victorian that we recently renovated. The apartment itself is very roomy, sunny, with high ceilings and hardwood floors, with stunning views.
There is a short-hair CAT (Trixie) on the premises, if anyone happens to allergic.
Deck area, hot-tub access, roof accessible by ladder, hightly recommended for sunsets...Microwaving and light cooking is fine…but I do not really like "from scratch" cooking as I use my kitchen a lot for work a
Unfortunately, is the only area that I feel a bit territorial about, like many chefs.
Interaction with Guests
I do a lot and enjoy that part, the biggest inspiration and motivation to do what I do…I am better at guest interaction in the mornings however, when I have more energy…I woek very hard and often tend to get a bit tired and less social in the evenings…Between the BnB and my food truck I am surrounded by people all day so at night I sometimes need my space and quiet time...
The hood is safe and quiet, easy parking and public transportation close. There are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance…there are about 10 restaurants with every type of food is found within 5 blocks. I recommend Aperto and Che Mama the most!
The 22 bus line, the T-Muni (light rail) and the Cal-Train stations are all within 3 blocks and we are 2 blocks from the 280 Freeway for easy access to the airport, Bay Bridge or Palo Alto and points South.. Potrero Hill is a safe and quiet neighborhood and there are numerous restaurants and shops within east walking distance and is only 10-15 minute drive to downtown or Berkeley/Oakland or pristine beaches South. Parking is safe and free on the street. Public transportation to downtown is only 3 blocks away (aprox. 25-30 mins. away) From there you can connect to the cable-car for destinations to Fisherman's Warf, Chinatown & North beach.
The Cal-Trans train station is also 3 blocks away for those who need to take public to S.San Francisco, Mt. View, Palo Alto or San Jose. The 22-bus runs 1 1/2 blocks away and services the Mission, Lower Haight and continues to the Marina district.
If you are renting a car, which I advise to see the North Bay (GG Bridge, Marin Headlands, Pt. Bonita, Sausalito, Muir Woods, Stinson Beach and Pt. Reyes)
There is a hot-tub downstairs you are free to use. There is a Washer/Dryer guests are free to use. There is use of the kitchen but please check ahead if you plan on cooking in more than once or twice during your stay as I sometimes have very busy weeks with my food truck.
I like to provide at least a continental breakfast and can do a great deal better if my guests aren't up too late or early and I am not too busy prepping for a lunch gig that particular morning.
Other Things to Note
I ask that you please treat my towels and linen as you would your own if you were at home…same goes with leaving lights on.
Smoking outside only please ...no pets ....And, ladies, please don't use the face towels to wipe off make-up and please respect the wood...I have hardwood floors everywhere so I would also appreciate guests not leaving WET towels on them! Also, I run a food truck out of my kitchen, so I allow guests to cook although I don't encourage it that much and prefer people just use the microwave, sorry, but I’m one of those territorial chefs!
San Francisco is a city of hills and Jon Ranis' Potrero Hill Quiet Retreat is no exception. Be prepared to climb up 34 stairs and be driven up a hill like no other (although this is typical for a lot of SF.) But when you get there, be prepared for a gorgeous view of the harbor and the quiet promised in the name.
Jon is a gracious host who cooks for a living so his breakfasts were top notch. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome and we will be back at his place the next time we visit family in SF.
Jon is a friendly host. I spent 5 days in his place as if I'm home with a good friend. It's easy to park and the neighborhood is pretty. And if course he knows how to make good breakfast. I highly recommend this place.
I really wish to thank you for the great hospitality, it was like to be at a friend' home. Hope to come back soon. Ciao
Jon was an excellent host. I would definitely stay with him again. Very friendly and easy going. He even made me breakfast and dinner a few times and the food was awesome. My room was very cozy as well with a comfy bed, nice tv (with cable) and private bathroom. Also, there is a very nice view of the bay, bay bridge, and downtown SF from the balcony. There is an even better, 360 degree view of the whole city from up on the roof. I would definitely stay with Jon again.
Jon is a great host. He was very helpful with information about the city.He makes delicious breakfast that you can't find anywhere else! (highly recommended! )
The room that i was staying in was quite clean and spacious and private bathroom was really satisfying!
We had a very good stay at Jons home. He made exzellent breakfast, combined with the wonderful view from the balcony, perfect. He gave us maps and good (email hidden)tally recommended! Thanks again Jon!
