Este es un sotano muy acojedor en una vecindad tranquila. Favor ponerse en contacto conmigo si tienen alguna pregunta.

The Space

This is a private basement with a full bath within 4 blocks of a Metro stop. Conveniently located 15 blocks from the US Capitol Building, our house is also close to historic Eastern Market and the lively H Street corridor. The basement unit is self-contained, with its own full bath and entryway leading out to our backyard, which has a gate opening to the street. This is the perfect space if you like privacy and don't want to share a room in someone's living space. Please be aware though that this is not a hotel and our guests shouldn't expect a hotel experience - we simply enjoy sharing our home with other world travelers and like to meet you and chat with you about your journey!

Amenities: Visitors should be aware that the basement room does not contain a kitchen, though it does contain a mini fridge and a hot water kettle for tea and coffee. We provide wifi and also a hairdryer and an iron and ironing board. We have a small, very friendly dog (a Welsh corgi) who may or may not see since he lives upstairs.

My wife and I also speak fluent Spanish. I have a bike I can lend you if available and if I am available I'd love to give you a private bike tour of the neighborhood.

Check out our Guidebook for recommendations on restaurants that are within walking distance. Some on H Street include Biergarten Haus (German food), Toki Underground (Taiwanese ramen, Sticky Rice (sushi), Smith Commons (president Obama ate there last week), Granville Moore's (excellent Belgian mussels and beer), H Street Contry Club (Tex mex food)

Other venues on H Street:
Rock and Roll Hotel (live music velue), Atlas Theater (Performing arts), HR 57 (live jazz)

At Eastern Market you can find: Peregrine Coffee (best coffee), Pain Quotidien (communal French bakery), Aqua Al 2 (Italian food), Pitango (great gelatos)

Note on parking:

There is free street parking on the weekends and federal holidays. We do not have private parking. On the weekdays, there is 2 hour street parking from 9:30am to 6:30pm. There are some restrictions during events at the RFK Stadium.

If you are arriving by Metro, the closest station is Stadium-Armory Metro on the Blue and Orange Line. Make sure to take the Stadium Exit and walk over to either 17th or 16th Street and walk north (or right) until you got to our Street, North Carolina Ave. The house is the second one from the corner.

Amigos de AirBnb,

Check In
  • This was a very nice place to stay. I felt right at home, with privacy as well as the comfortable sounds of people living there in a residential area rather than being in a hotel or deserted building. I thought the bed was quite good, I slept really well. You will find some good suggestions already in the room, as well as a pile of brochures and metro and bus schedules. And they are really very helpful with further suggestions and thinking along. I really liked Eastern Market. In the weekend there is a market but the rest of the week it is nice too. There are several cafes and restaurants there, including Le Pain Quotidien and Peregrine Coffee (and a ‘health food’ supermarket nearby.. and for those of you interested in quaint dilapidated bookstores, there is one close to Eastern Market where books are even stored in the bathroom). Eastern Market conveniently has a metro stop too. The walk from there to ‘home’ and back was very nice too, through the park. Of course everything was in bloom now too. Despite the fact that I was at a conference for most of the week, Mauricio, Christie and I had a chance to really talk and they are such nice people! I would recommend this place to anyone simply because it is nice, clean and friendly, but for me this family (and their dog) was the real perk. If I get a chance to return to DC I would like to take my family and would love to join Mauricio on one of his DC bike tours.

  • We spent 3 days at this place. The only complain we had is very cold first night. You don't have control of heating at the basement, so you need to ask the host to adjust it. It's a very clean basement with the separate entrance from the backyard.
The one of the reason we chose this option is good reviews regarding area. Actually, it seems safe when you come from downtown heading to apartment during the day and night. During the night the area which lies down from house to the metro station didn't seem safe. Even at the store near it we were asked by the cashier what we were doing there and he suggested not to walk at night there (for the day it's ok).
So, what we did at night time we used taxi or bus D6 (the bus stop is 400 m north from the apartment).
We didn't have a chance to see hosts as we spent almost all the time out of the house. There's a teapot with complimentary teabags.

  • We really enjoyed staying at their place. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet each other. But anyway it was a quiet place not far from downtown. We used the capital bikesharing which was a good recommendation to getting around.

  • We had a wonderful time at Mauricio and Christie's. The room was comfortable, warm, and peaceful. They were also extremely helpful with suggestions for food or amenities in the area. Would recommend to anyone visiting DC!

  • We had a great experience in DC! Mauricio was a very nice host!
he took time to talk with us and helped us to make a reservation in a restaurant. He also gave us some advices to visit best places in DC! His appartment is 10 min walk to a metro station (stadium-armory) The basement was clean and really quiet. We would like to stay in this appartment if we would have to come back to DC! Thank you again! Lise, Lea and Lucie

  • This is a great room for a visit to Washington, D.C. Mauricio was very helpful accommodating our check in times and the room is very clean and spacious. It's in a great location near the Metro and it offers a great starting point to explore the city. Highly recommended!

  • The room: Very professionally finished room that felt like a home. Bed was extremely comfortable, shower good and lighting added a nice mood to the room.
The area: A 9-minute walk from the train station & similar walk to the eating areas on H Street.
The hosts: Very good communication from Maurice up to our arrival. Met him once on our last night there (NYE) & seemed fair dinkum.
Conclusion: if you want to know what it's like to live life as a local, this is a great opportunity in a really comfortable room. I would recommend if you have business, family or friends in the area.

(Spanish speakers, please see description below). We love living in DC's best neighborhood (Capitol Hill of course!) and are eager to welcome guests to our home. We love traveling, international food and music, and we both speak English and Spanish. Mauricio has a passion for bicycling and leads a weekly bike tour of eastern DC, which guests are welcome to join for free. We love the outdoors and care about the environment. We have a small dog named Harry (a Welsh corgi) who loves visitors. We became fans of Airbnb after two wonderful stays in Budapest and Austin, Texas.
