The Space

Welcome to our mountain retreat. The house is surrounded by 100’ firs, beautiful forest, and private backyard garden with flowers and fountains. Located in the mountains between Napa & Sonoma valley’s, 1.5 hours from San Francisco, in the heart of the wine country. We are a short drive via windy country roads to neighboring towns of Calistoga, St. Helena, Glen Ellen, Kenwood, & Sonoma, and numerous parks for hiking.

The home sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms, with fresh linens and towels provided for guests, and ONE bathroom. The cozy living room has a fireplace and large flat screen TV/Satelite/DVR, and looks out onto the garden, garden cottage (sleeps 2/counted as bedroom #3), and forest beyond. The kitchen is large, fully equipped, and perfect for dining in and has comfortable bar seating. Just outside the kitchen and living room is a large deck with gas BBQ and outside seating.

This rugged forested location makes Cell Phone service unreliable, and there is NO internet. There is, however, a Land-Line provided for your incoming and outgoing calls…or to make a restaurant reservation. This is an ideal location for couples or small groups wanting seclusion and comfort, surrounded by nature…all within a short drive to anywhere in the wine country.

Secluded location!!...approx 5 miles to downtown Calistoga, in the country, set in the middle of a dense forest, via twisty country road. NO internet, NO cell service. 3 bedrooms/3 beds, and ONE bathroom.
Maximum number of guests at any time is 6 persons. NOT appropriate for very young children NOR elderly persons whom have ambulatory difficulties. This house is ‘split-level’ and has stairs to the front door as well as inside the home. House is NOT baby-proofed and contains breakable art collections. Home owner does not live in immediate area, and needs 48 hours notice of requested check-in date.

  • Matt is a wonderful host. He is very accessible, organized and informative. Since we were visiting during Christmas, he offered thoughtful, generous items to make us feel more at home during the holidays. He walked us through the house, answered questions and made suggestions. He is so kind.
The house is really welcoming and has so much character. The beds are super comfortable and the kitchen is fantastic. We sat by the fireplace, took a lovely walk, made delicious meals and slept in late. We had a wonderful stay,

  • We were a group of 5 including one couple, and Matt and Ken's home was an excellent choice for our pre-Christmas getaway in wine country. Comfortable, eclectically-furnished, with an amazing kitchen! Comfortable beds, with lots of space for us to spread out. Really great location - close to Calistoga and the other beautiful towns in the Napa Valley, and also close to Santa Rosa for anything you might need from a larger town. Matt gave us great recommendations for wine tastings, hikes nearby, and dinner spots. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a home away from home for their vacation.

  • Matt was so helpful not just getting us settled unto his home but in giving us lots of information about the area. The home lived up to its description! We had a great stay!

  • Matt's lovely home and cottage and grounds were our getaway for out-of-town family members attending a graduation at Sonoma State University. We found it to be everything that was advertised in the photos and description, and more. In addition to the whimsical interiors and multi-tiered gardens and deck areas, it was a place of total quiet at night and constant birdsong by day. The kitchen is a dream for those who are serious about cooking. A well-deserved five-star rating for this one.

  • This place is amazing! Great for people who like to cook and convenient to Dry Creek Valley, Napa Valley, Russian River, and Sonoma! It's literally in the middle of everything, but because it's deep in the woods, is still very private. The greatest part is the decor! My parents and I marveled at the collection! Matt was also very helpful in giving hints on where to eat and where to go for wine. I couldn't have enjoyed myself more and despite being well traveled, my Dad claims this was the "greatest trip he's ever taken."

  • Matt's home is an absolute charmer. The location is defintely remote, up a windy hill, but just the coolest place! Every nook of the home is decorated impecabbly with an wonderful eclectic charm. We LOVED it. We couldn't stop taking pictures of the decor to show family and friends when we returned. All the beds are comfy and the kitchen is FULLY stocked with some of the coolest cutlery and a crazy awesome salt collection!!!

Located VERY close to wineries and restraunts. Matt was the best host and explained all details of the house very clearly!

We wish we could have stayed longer!!!!!

  • What a charming getaway in the wine country mountains. From the moment we arrived to the time we left we enjoyed every second. The multiple patios were perfect for relaxing with a book and the variety of art and plant life really creates a unique and picturesque experience. Thanks for everything, Matt!

We are professionals who love to travel, surf, and Art of all kinds. We fell in love with this house for its secluded forested location, and our ability to weave into it a love of gardening and art. As well as a love of food, wine, and cooking. This house is perfect for staying 'in' and just hanging out, enjoying the garden and fountain, and seeing the sites so close by. Bothe state park is a short drive for fantastic hikes, and amazing wineries in every direction.
