The old farmhouse, “ Podere San Felice”, is located in “Val di Merse” plain where in summer sunflowers and wheat grow. This plain is surrounded by the “Montagnola” rolling hills where there are dense oaks and chestnut forests. To discover more about “Montagnola” you could visit the Ethnographic Museum in “Orgia”, lovely little village very close to the Capannina. This museum tells the relationship between the forests and the man, describing old trades such as the charcoal-burner and the wood cutter. In this museum you can find all the information about ancient paths marked by the traces of traditional rural life.
Visiting the “Sovicille” website you can find all the information about the local actractions and you can download trail maps.
Our area is rich in very ancient churches (evendated before 1000 a.c.) as “Ponte allo Spino”, “San Giusto in Balli”, “Pernin” etc, and many castles such as “Montarrenti”, “Palazzaccio”, “Stigliano”, “Capraia”, “Palazzo al Piano”, etc.
This land is also rich in Etruscan and Roman settlements. I suggest visiting the old village of Torri, where in the abbey there is a rare polychrome three floor Romanesque cloister.
I also suggest going along the part of the river that runs from Rosia to Montarrenti in order to see the most actractive land mark of this zone: the “Ponte della Pia”. The legend tells that “Pia de’ Tolomei” passed through this bridge (built in the early Medioevo) going exile to “Maremma” where she was murdered. This event was described by Dante Alighieri in his main opera: “La Divina Commedia”.
Among the actractive beauties there are the seventeent-century Cetinale Palace and the eighteenth-century Villa Linari Palace.
Morena's place is a terrific base for exploring Tuscany. The loft is tucked away on a small road near a tiny town- it is clean, charming and well-equipped. Siena is about fifteen minutes away by car, San Gimignano, Montalcino and Montepulciano are within an hour's scenic drive as well.
Morena and her daughter Eleanora are great hosts as well, warm, welcoming and responsive. Thanks again!
This little and cosy garden house is just perfect for couples. My boyfriend Thomas and I really enjoyed the Tuscan atmosphere out there. We spent six nights exploring the area around Siena. We brought our roadbikes to practice up hill condition and in fact the area called "Le Créte" is perfect for it and honestly it is a chalenge. But we also visited medieval places like San Gimigianono, Monterigioni and Volterra. Unfortunately we could not use the beautiful and peaceful garden of he house as the sun set very early at this time of the year; instead we used the evenings to enjoy self-cooked pasta and drank local "vino rosso" in the comfortable house. We definately recommend the place!
Grazie mille to Morena and her family!
This house is so delightful, clean, and beautifully decorated. I cannot describe enough how well done it is. Morena and her family were so lovely. The location was perfect. The rental is very close to their home, but the wifi does not work except sitting outdoors near to their house which isn't always possible. Unfortunately I think our timing was wrong. We booked this place because it was advertised as "peace and silence". It was the opposite. Two nights the family had large loud parties and the teenage/young friends of Morena's daughters were outside until after midnight talking and swearing and laughing and music was playing loudly. Additionally they congregated under our kitchen window smoking so that smoke came inside the house and we were forced to close the windows. We were approached 3 times by young people and asked "who are you" while were trying to relax outdoors. Morena did graciously invite us inside, but were were there for other reasons and were hoping to relax and not party. Additionally, the privacy was very limited. When we woke in the morning and opened the blinds Morena was sitting outside our door working at the picnic table that I thought was ours. She was sweet and very busy and I think perhaps the error was that the place should not have been rented. I would highly recommend this place so long as you check with Morena in advance about who will be using the space. I think perhaps Morena should have not made the place available during such a celebratory time for her family.
Of all the places we stayed at during our trip to Tuscany, Morena's was our favorite by far: the surroundings are picturesque, the area is quiet and relaxing, and the little house is super cosy. It is also the perfect place to stay if you want tranquillity while being close to Siena (only 20 minutes by car) and being able to explore the villages around (Montepulciano, Monteriggioni etc.).
Staying there was really like a dream and in bonus you will meet a lovely Golden Retriever there :)
Morena's house is very nice and very cosy. It is also very clean and well equipped. We stayed for 2 nights, and we had everything we needed. Morena and her son David are very warm and friendly people, and provided us all the necessary information. Although for us it was a bit cold and the heating hadn't been turned on yet, Morena provided us additional blankets and heater, and it totally did the job.
Morena's house is really "peace and silence", and has its own magic. The surroundings of the house are very beautiful, and it is a good place to stay if you travel in Toscana. We enjoyed the place very much, and I wish we could stay more. Definitely recommend this place and will come back next time :) Thank you very much Morena and David, everything was just perfect!
Morena was very sweet, she made our stay very comfortable, everything was clean and cozy. Thanks again for everything!
Staying at Morena's hous is a bit like staying in a fairy tale. Although it looks quite small when you first enter, it's very well organised and very comfortable to stay in. The whole house is nicely decorated and super clean. The location is also a benefit of this place; it's not very far from Siena but still very calming and quiet. We'd love to come back some day.
Morena was really nice and welcoming. The house is perfect for a young couple and near Sienna !! The garden is really really nice and perfect during summer time i think. The condominium really quiet. Thanks for everything Morena !
We arrived in the dark to the farm. Mainly due to our navigation device but the explanation was very helpful. Should send a message by email or sms to Morena to open the gate. The reception was warm and the studio very comfortable . We had everything we needed to sleep comfortably and make dinner. The studio designed and very clean. Everything is new and well maintained. The Farm is some distance and you need great patience at the end of a grueling travel day, until you arrive. We really enjoyed and recommend to friends looking for a quiet place as a base for vacation in nature.
Morena's place is really beautiful. Once there her daughters met us and walked us through the place. It was just as pictured, cute as a bug's ear. The countryside in the area is beautiful. You're a stone's throw from Siena and San Gimiano. The place is lovely and the town nice. The market closes at 8 or 7:55 (as we found out). The pizza in town was good and there is a nice butcher and several nice markets where you can buy fruit, vegetables, cheeses and breads. Morena and her kids are warm and friendly. Ask her about her friend's pig farm. That was a true highlight (honest).
It's tricky to find. Once you get on the right road it's 3 km (or so). The first big house on the left (409) that's not it. It doesn't look like there's anything in the distance but keep going. You'll run into a couple of houses on the left and it's the 1st drive way. We had problems with the internet. We got the best reception on the patio, which is beautiful, but the router drifted in and out (I'm on a "working vacation" so a spotty connection was frustrating). If I were to go back I might stay north of Siena in the heart of wine country but I would definitely recommend this place for a young couple or someone interested in the southern Tuscany's landscape and olive country.
