About this listing
This little chalet was my home for a few months when I first came to live on the Isle of Wight. You can cook for yourselves, eat on site or walk/drive to the local pub or restaurant. It can hold up to a maximum of 4 people in the two bedrooms. The kitchen/living /dining is open plan. There is car parking by the chalet.
The chalet is a brick build 2 bedroomed semi detached bungalow in a wooded holiday park near (but not by) the sea and Gurnard vilage which in turn is near Cowes, Isle of Wight. It is a light, clean and tidy space with furniture and fittings for up to 4 people. There is an open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area, with TV/DVD player and free wifi throughout . There are 2 separate bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with adult sized bunk beds) Each bedroom has just about room for a baby's cot if needed. There is one small bathroom with shower over the bath. Beds are made up for you and towels (except beach towels) are provided.
The living area of the chalet faces south and has a patio which looks on to a small green space with trees and other chalets. The bedrooms face north onto the access road and other chalets.
Sorry - smoking and pets are not allowed in the chalet. The chalet is suitable for singles for whom a discount may be available - just ask.
You have sole use of the whole chalet, which is semi detached to a similar chalet.
There is parking on the access road at the rear of the chalet.
Interaction with guests
I live nearby and can be available to help with any queries as needed, otherwise I will not disturb your stay at the chalet.
The holiday park has had a change of ownership a few years ago and since then the grounds are not as well maintained as they could be. Some of the chalets are lived in all the year round. The range of activities for adults and children is less than might be expected in a holiday park - hence it is quieter.
Gurnard village has a local 8 - 8 shop, an excellent newsagent/cafe, a good pub, church, village hall showing a film on the 1st Friday of the month (except August). It is less than 5 minutes walk to the sea from the village.
Cowes town is a couple of miles away and has a range of useful and interesting shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries, museums, a fast ferry to the mainland, and boats galore!
The island has many attractions for children and adults, miles of walks and cycle tracks and quiet country roads to quaint villages and interesting towns. There are several lovely and varied beaches around the island. A Roman villa, Carrisbrooke and Yarmouth Castles and Queen Victoria's summer house are all popular historical venues. Places to eat and drink are many and various mostly with locally sourced food and drink from the island's own farms, vineyards and breweries. Most of the island is accessible by car within 30 - 45 minutes. The summer open -topped bus services can give you stunning views of parts of the island.
There is a bus service but you'd be more flexible with a car for which there is parking by the chalet, or car hire is available in Cowes. While a community bus stops at the park entrance 2 or 3 times in the mornings on a long route to Cowes and back, the nearest bus stop with regular buses to Newport, is a 15 minute walk away.
Other things to note
The Park has grassed areas, a woodand walk, and an outdoor table tennis table (bats and balls are available in the chalet) beside the French boules area (a set of boules is available in the chalet). There is a small shop, restaurant and cash machine on site.
Optional extras to buy at the Holiday park include the use of the swimming pool, fitness suite, tennis courts, bike hire and indoor children's play/adventure area.
The sea, country walks, local pub, newsagent, village shop, newsagent, cafe and good restaurant are all within 10 - 15 minutes walk. These are in or close to the village of Gurnard. The beach at Gurnard Bay overlooks the ships and boats on the Solent and has a cafe and toilets, safe swimming and a sandy/pebbly beach. It is a small beach with seaweed and rocks at low tide. Other parts of the island have different wider or sandier beaches.
For those of you from outside the UK, please be aware that the chalet is on the Isle of Wight which is off the south coast of England and has frequent car and foot passenger ferries from Southampton. Portsmouth and Lymington in the New Forest.
No pets is a regulation from the Holiday park. Smoking is allowed outside but not inside the chalet. Its a small property with close neighbours, so not suitable for events and parties - sorry! Otherwise - common sense - to treat the property and contents with the reasonable care expected in a private property.
