"The singular island" as native French poet Paul Valerie used to say. Home town of singers, artists painters and sculptors such as Georges Brassens, Jean Vilar, Di Rosa Brothers and Richard is surrounded by the Mediterrenean Sea and a salted lake linked to the sea by different canals appreciated by sailors. Numerous bars and restaurants are open on boardwalks.
Enjoy fully that original city when living in its heart. I rent a sunny 60 sq. meters loft in the middle of Sète's typical areas and of all services (central market, shops, bars, tourist inform etc...) 5 bus lines at 2 minutes walk will take you anywhere in town (5 minutes to the rail station, 7 to 10 to the different beaches.
A 3rd and last floor, with 2 rooms, an opened kitchen, a shower room and a small office, the flat provides all comfort for cooking and leisure (satellite Tv, dvd, wi fi etc..)
Cultural events happen all year long : theater in winter, music festivals in summer, local events in different areas all year. 3 museum are open all year as well.

We all loved our stay in Bernard's bohemian "batchelor" loft (3rd floor) apartment in the heart of Sète - it is off the central square with the famous octopus fountain. The apartment is essentially a large studio with a large curtained off room containing a double bed. The living room area had two single beds fairly unobtrusively placed amongst the exotic/eclectic furnishings, artifacts and ashtrays! The apartment has all essential items and a small and secure balcony high above a main road.
The apartment is ideal for families with children above pre-school age, and other adults, but not those with problems with stairs.
Bernard is a very very friendly and helpful host. He tried to arrange cars to collect and return us to Beziers airport, provided some food and drink for our arrival and offered helpful advice/information when asked during our stay.
Sète is lovely port, situated on a series of canals, built by the side a large hill, Mont St Clair, with the Lac de Thau on its inland side. The view from the top of Mont St Clair is spectacular and the church here with its funky paintings on the interior walls is well worth a visit. The canals in Sète are crisscrossed by many bridges, but beware some bridges raise or swing round to let yachts pass, and you may have to wait whilst the larger canal traffic passes by.
Sète is big enough to have all the amenities required for a long stay and with plenty going on within the town to make it really interesting, but it is not too large a town to make anywhere difficult to get to. Even the many beaches in the area can either be reached by foot (the closest at least) or by a reliable network of local buses from the apartment. We visited many of the excellent beaches surrounding Sète. From lively but small-scale beach resort Marseillan Plage to remote Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone the beaches are mostly sandy and have lifeguard posts and other facilities. As for the restaurants, I have don't recall seeing so many in a town that size ever! Bernard's apartment is close to these restaurants, as well as the shops, the big town market (on Wednesdays mornings), the tourist office and the canals for the boat-trips.
The apartment is an ideal central location (there is noise but it only disturbed us only on a couple of occasions ), with an amiable host in a fantastic town!
Nous avons rencontré notre hôte lors de notre arrivée.
Le logement a correspondu à nos attentes.
Bernard is a committed host, the flat has its charm and is well situated but we were very surprised by the pretty strong smell of (years of smoking) cigarette especially in the bedroom. What might be an advantage for passionate smokers was quite disturbing for us. Really not recommendable for non-smokers.
This was a lovely cozy little apartment in an amazing location. It's right by all the shops and restaurants and there's a supermarket 5 minutes away.
It comfortably slept myself and two of my friends. There's a bedroom with a double bed and a sofa bed in the front room. It also has free wifi which really handy!
Bernard was a wonderful laid back host. He even came to collect us from the airport and provided witty banter all the way to the apartment. He also bought us ingredients for breakfast which he left in the fridge for us. He showed us around and then said we could call him if we needed anything! Great guy!
It is a well equipped apartment with all the kitchen utensils you'd need and a shower that always has hot water, you don't even need to wait for it to heat up.
There's a cozy little balcony which comfortable sat the three of us for breakfast and dinner.
It's on the top floor and there are no lifts but we managed fine.
I would 100% stay here again! You couldn't ask for better a better host or location.
Merci Bernard! Until next year.
We spent 2 summer weeks in Bernard’s apartment, and enjoyed ourselves greatly. It’s breezy, funky, roomy, well-equipped and filled with character—with interesting collections from his travels. There’s a nice little terrace to take in meals and a drink, and watch the sky (blue or starry). It is right in the middle of the Centre Ville, so close to the action of things as well as the main market (daily) and the weekly markets (across from Square Léon Blum), including the huge and amazing one on Wednesdays. It is a stroll to the canal, and a scenic walk to Musée Paul Valery and along the cornice to the local inlet/crique beaches). Square Léon Blum (by the apartment) is the site of many local festivities, e.g. weddings, Fêtes de la Saint Louise events in August, music concerts…. The restaurants are great, especially Le Gourmand, L’Oranger and Aqui Oi (by canal towards the Vieux Port; try their sardines! Also their partner tapas bar next door, Aqui Sian Bien). Bernard was a wonderful host: very responsive and communicative throughout, easy-going and helpful with local tips; he left simple provisions for our first day, and even met us at the train station. A vibrant and kind soul!
Diplômé de HEC, je suis maintenant retraité, je vagabonde donc beaucoup. C'est pour cela que je laisse mon appartement à disposition à tous ceux et celles désireux de découvrir le midi de la France.
