Interaction with Guests
We interact as much or as little as our guests want. Usually there are a few online conversations prior to their stay to take care of the logistics and answer any questions. Once booked, we provide a Welcome Packet with directions, resort information, local activities, and emergency contact information both locally and for us.
Once arrived, we usually like to get an email or text just letting us know they've arrived safely. And after that we are here if they need us, but honestly we usually don't hear much from people until they are checking out to let us know they're on their way. In the rare occurrence that someone has had a question or an issue that they wanted to ask us, we've been able to respond quickly and take care of it.
Ours is 1 of only 8 privately-owned homes overlooking Playa Mantas on the grounds of the Punta Leona Resort.
Everything on the grounds is walking distance. If you want to do some day -excursions The hotel staff can arrange a rental car or taxi service. Most people rent a car at the airport to have for their trip.

Construction on the house next door was supposed to have been completed by the time of this guest's arrival. As soon as it became clear it would not be done, we contacted Lacy to let them know. This was their honeymoon and we felt it wasn't fair to them to be dealing with that during such a special trip. We were sad to let them down and would gladly welcome them anytime!
Simply Wonderful. Waking to the sounds of the waves, seeing the Scarlet McCaws from our porch, and the privacy are a few of the highlights. The proximity to Jaco, the amenities of the hotel and the benefits therewith are also noteworthy. This is absolutely a vacation destination that will not let you down! This place is classy, and that is just getting started to describe it....
Shannon and Steve were amazing from the start. I was always impressed by the quick and helpful responses. The welcome package they provided was informative and really helpful to get around the neighborhood. The house itself was outstanding! The pictures really don't do justice to the amazing view and the house was very well furnished. We really enjoyed sitting in the patio, listening to really music via the high quality bose speakers and enjoying the view. The beach is literally at the bottom of the hill. Highly recommended!
The view, the house, the location were all amazing. I could sit on the back porch and listen to the crashing waves and listen to the tropical birds chirp for hours on end. Honestly, the view will take your breath away. It's better than the pictures. The beaches were lovely with Playa Blanca being our favorite. Getting down to the beach was a bit challenging but we made it work. The hill from the house to the beach was almost too steep to climb but luckily some workers cleared off blocked steps just down from the house which we used. We didn't have a car so we ended up renting a golf cart from the resort to get around. The resort overall was breathtakingly beautiful. Next visit we would probably rent a car. The house was great. It was modern in style, nicely decorated and had everything we could have possibly needed. Shannon was super accommodating and went above and beyond to help us, answer all our questions and meet all our needs. I highly recommend staying with Shannon and Steve in Punta Leona.
Steve and Shannon's home was every bit as amazing as expected. You can walk right out the back of the house and access two beautiful beaches, and the view from their porch is unbeatable. We went on a nearby crocodile safari, hiked to a 200m high waterfall, and took a day trip to Manuel Antonio. I would highly recommend their home.
We loved Steve and Shannon's house in Costa Rica. It was amazing to wake up to the sound of the ocean every single morning and to sit out on the deck with such an incredible view. I would definitely stay here again. We had a small issue in the beginning with having to pay to park at the house, but Shannon was very quick to assist with having that charge removed. Overall, Shannon and Steve were both extremely helpful in suggesting places to go and activities to do, and also with our questions. I will say that I strongly recommend having a car if you stay here, as it's nice to have the option to leave the grounds and visit nearby Jaco, or the national park close by, hiking, etc. The restaurant/pool area that is closest to the house was a bit dull at night. Playa Blanca is within walking distance and is a very beautiful beach, which we loved. Overall I highly recommend this home.
We stayed here for about a week. The hosts were great and super patient with us and our numerous questions. The house is amazing. very modern and nicely decorated with amazing views from every room. A lot of the places posted on Air B&B use wide angle lenses to enhance the pictures but if anything this house is better in person than in the pics. The house is in a gated neighborhood which one can only access after going thru a check point so it felt very safe. The kitchen is very modern with everything one may need to cook pretty much anything so we ate in on most nights. There is a modern supermarket about 20 minutes away with fresh fish, meats, wines, pretty much anything you may need. A 5 minute walk will get you to the beach you see from the balcony which is also near two great swimming pools an outdoor bar and a small restaurant which is part of the community that the house sits in. As some mentioned you can occasionally hear music from the pool but it didn't bother us. The pool is far off and what you usually hear is faint bass. The beach right by the house is pretty and serene, not very crowded and guarded so its safe to swim in. That being said we went for the surf and if that's what you are into this beach has no waves. Unless you are just going to enjoy just the near by area I would strongly recommend renting a car because the house is a bit far from the main road though the road leading to it is paved and modern. Also, follow the house rules regarding insects and the kitchen, this is the case for any place you stay at in Costa Rica. You are basically in the jungle and any food no matter how modern the house will attract insects. Overall this is one of the best looking places to stay at in this area.
About the Host, Steve And Shannon
My wife Shannon and I both work in the film industry in Hollywood. We love design and architecture probably because we work in such a visual medium. Shannon takes classes is welding and pottery and I like to fiddle with motorcycles and older British cars.
When we purchased Villa 501 we decided to model our house in a clean modern look similar to a "W" hotel but with a Costa Rican feel. We live in a 1920's traditional California Spanish style home and wanted to do something which we hoped would have a "Zen" quality to it.
