Less than 90 minutes from the capital city of San Jose, this is your own charming two bedroom, two bath beach house in the gated and secure community of Punta Leona.
Villa Tranquilo offers a relaxed, soothing retreat from the stresses of daily life while still being close enough to modern amenities to pamper yourself. The house is completely air conditioned with WiFi, TV/DVD, stereo system and laundry room.
Playa Mantas beach is just steps from the house and top-rated Playa Blanca is a short five minute walk away. There is a small restaurant/bar at Playa Blanca and a full-time lifeguard station.
You'll be amazed at the wildlife you will see right from your balcony! Scarlet macaws, monkeys, iguanas, raccoons, and toucans can be seen at various times of the year right in the backyard. Listen to the sound of the surf, arrange for a massage or take advantage of the great hiking trails, zip line, butterfly farm and tennis courts. There's even a miniature golf course! All of these activities are available right on the property.
Punta Leona houses a hotel with swimming pools, restaurants, bars and even a chapel with Sunday services. The hotel can arrange day trips to Manuel Antonio State Park, Arenal Volcano, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, and many other outdoor activities.
Punta Leona is 10 minutes south of Carara National Wildlife Park and 10 minutes north of the bustling surf town of Jaco, with a wide range of restaurants, bars, and shopping. On the road to Jaco is the world renowned hotel, spa and restaurant; Villa Caletas, where you can get a birds eye view of the ocean while enjoying a cocktail and listening to soothing music at sunset. Villa Caletas also offers Friday night concerts at certain times of the year.
We love our home and the restorative quality it has on our lives. We know it will do the same for you. Enjoy.

A lovely, well kept, modern 2 level overlooking the surf and parts of the jungle. part of the Punta Leona resort community, seemingly a popular destination for Spanish speaking (presumably Costa Rican?) vacationers. Lots of wildlife to observe just outside. We ate every breakfast out on the deck just looking at cool stuff.
A choice of walking down to the beach down below, or going down to the main resort and catching a free bus to the excellent Playa Blanca white sand beach around the bend. Nearby resort-style amenities, or drive back out to find more of the "real" Costa Rica.
We stayed for 3 months starting Jan 2014 with our infant. We had a wonderful time, the location of the house was perfect. We did not rent a car for the entire time , we used taxi service once a week to go to the farmers market on Fridays in Jaco where you can get fresh produce.
Both the beaches, pools, three restaurants all within walking distance. Playa Blanca is the most beautiful beach. With the provided wristband you can access all the resort facilities including birdwatching and night tour ( free of charge).
Beaches do get crowded during weekends, and music from disco on Friday and Saturday nights can be loud during low tide.
Steve and Shannon are great hosts, they are very organized, their orientation kit is very helpful. They responded quickly to all of our questions.
We will definitely come back to this place hopefully in the near future.
Attentive, helpful hosts with a beautiful home! We stayed at their house from December 27th – January 3rd and they expeditiously answered all of our last minute questions around Christmas and on New Year's day. The home is gorgeous and we appreciated all of the great vacation tips they sent us (hints on great restaurants, grocery stores, and activities nearby). You should know that their home is located in a very large gated club/hotel property (along with other houses) which has many pluses and a few minuses. Pluses: we never worried about safety (personal or belongings), you're located right in between two beaches (one of which locals actually pay to go to because of the beautiful white sand), there are things to do conveniently on the large club/hotel property (rent kayaks/stand up paddle boards/peddle boats, zip line, 3 restaurant options, etc). Minuses: they play music at night (I'm assuming on one of the beaches) until maybe 1 am? It might have been because we were there around the holidays and all you can hear is the bass, but if you're a very light sleeper and you go to bed early, I would ask Steve & Shannon if this goes on throughout the year. Also you have to wear a wristband for your entire stay. Surprisingly it didn't really bother us, even though we thought it would drive us crazy when they first put them on. All in all, we found the pluses to greatly outweigh the minuses (we thought Jaco was way too crowded and touristy, and Quepos was just too busy/city-like for the relaxing paradise vacation we were looking for). We really enjoyed watching the scarlet macaws fly past as we ate breakfast on the porch listening to the waves. And when we wanted some adventure, it was just a short walk or drive away.
The Home/Property: Just as beautiful and comfortable as the pictures suggested! We really enjoyed having a really nice kitchen to cook in, a great porch to sit out on in the early mornings (just a fabulous view), the privacy of the downstairs bedrooms (and the comfort of a great king mattress!), the very comfortable bathrooms, having a laundry... Steve and Shannon have clearly paid close attention to the design; just a very elegant and comfortable home.
The Location: Ended up especially enjoying the daily morning walk over the hill to Playa Blanca and morning stroll on beach, sunbathing, swimming.
Steve & Shannon: Welcoming and gracious hosts! It was our first airbnb rental, and they made us feel very welcome and comfortable (and, as mentioned, their place was beautiful!)...
We loved staying at Steve and Shannon's beautiful home in Punta Leona. The house was so clean upon our arrival and we enjoyed being close to the beach. It was a perfect vacation and it was nice to have access to the pool at the Punta Leona resort. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us. We hope to return soon.
Janet and family
The trip has been wonderful...some what magical! Your place here is absolutely fantastic and has allowed us to relax and enjoy the Costa Rican beaches without having to travel by car. We did take a trip down to see Manuel Antonio, and this is a busy week (Semana Santa). Despite how busy this week is among Costa Ricans, we never have felt any of the hustle/bustle here at the Villa.
Once again, many thanks for allowing us to enjoy your place...it is absolutely wonderful. I know our experience was enhanced by where we stayed...both the location and actual Villa. Everyone commented on the comfort/decor of the place. Shannon & Steve have done a wonderful job in creating a quiet & relaxing Villa. Great place to just sit and let the world spin by...
The location is fantastic...not too far from the airport (90 minutes), and close to Jaco (15 minutes)...having the restaurants, shops, grocery. And yet it's off the beaten path, in that you still feel/experience a remoteness and Peace & quiet...well there is the sound of the surf!
Steve & Shannon...many thanks!
This house is adorable and secluded, only a few more on this road. The beach is down a very short path, but you need shoes and then... Viola! light sand and ocean at your door. The view is amazing, Scarlett Macaw's fly right by the deck daily and roost in the nearby trees. Take advantage of all that the hotel has to offer. Steve and Shannon have a real gem of a place. I would return.
Thank you for sharing your home with us.
The first thing my friends said as we walked in the door was, "wow, the pictures don't do this place justice!"
Steve and Shannon have a lovely home where you can feel like you are in the middle of the jungle and at the beach at the same time. The two downstairs bedrooms were clean and spacious and the 2 bathrooms is a giant plus. The living and dining area had incredible views and the balcony is the perfect place to sit at night.
During the day we would escape to the beach by walking down the back steps and dirt path. It's not difficult but I wouldn't run down it either. It feels like a private beach sometimes because you see very few people. The second beach fills up more is accessible via road(walk or drive) or a climb over some boulders.
The property has access to a bunch of amenities, including pools and restaurants. There is (email hidden) to purchase groceries. Though, Steve and Shannon, luckily warned us that it is a bit pricey and we (email hidden) and fruit stand on the drive over.
Having a car is very useful as the property is large and if you want to explore outside its walls. However, we did not have one and survived.
We spent new years here and got to watch fireworks and lanterns being launched from out very own beach. It was a lovely trip and Steve and Shannon were very welcoming They checked in on us before the trip and when we had any concerns, they were quickly addressed and remedied. They even have a local contact person in case you need immediate assistance. We had an amazing experience and I hope to visit again soon.
