Our, light and breezy, 2-bedroom beach house is the perfect place to totally relax or make your base for zip-lining, kayaking and hiking. Enjoy ocean views, wildlife sightings and the sound of the surf while you prepare a gourmet meal or just chill.
And this is the primo spot to sip a cold beer while you watch the the world go by and enjoy the wildlife.
Less than 90 minutes from the capital city of San Jose, this is your own charming two bedroom, two bath beach house in the gated and secure community of Punta Leona.
Villa Tranquilo offers a relaxed, soothing retreat from the stresses of daily life while still being close enough to modern amenities to pamper yourself. The house is completely air conditioned with WiFi, TV/DVD, stereo system and laundry room.
Playa Mantas beach is just steps from the house and top-rated Playa Blanca is a short five minute walk away. There is a small restaurant/bar at Playa Blanca and a full-time lifeguard station.
You'll be amazed at the wildlife you will see right from your balcony! Scarlet macaws, monkeys, iguanas, raccoons, and toucans can be seen at various times of the year right in the backyard. Listen to the sound of the surf, arrange for a massage or take advantage of the great hiking trails, zip line, butterfly farm and tennis courts. There's even a miniature golf course! All of these activities are available right on the property.
Punta Leona houses a hotel with swimming pools, restaurants, bars and even a chapel with Sunday services. The hotel can arrange day trips to Manuel Antonio State Park, Arenal Volcano, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, and many other outdoor activities.
Punta Leona is 10 minutes south of Carara National Wildlife Park and 10 minutes north of the bustling surf town of Jaco, with a wide range of restaurants, bars, and shopping. On the road to Jaco is the world renowned hotel, spa and restaurant, Villa Caletas, where you can get a birds eye view of the ocean while enjoying a cocktail and listening to soothing music at sunset. Villa Caletas also offers Friday night concerts at certain times of the year.
We love our home and the restorative quality it has on our lives. We know it will do the same for you. Enjoy.

We stayed here for about a week. The hosts were great and super patient with us and our numerous questions. The house is amazing. very modern and nicely decorated with amazing views from every room. A lot of the places posted on Air B&B use wide angle lenses to enhance the pictures but if anything this house is better in person than in the pics. The house is in a gated neighborhood which one can only access after going thru a check point so it felt very safe. The kitchen is very modern with everything one may need to cook pretty much anything so we ate in on most nights. There is a modern supermarket about 20 minutes away with fresh fish, meats, wines, pretty much anything you may need. A 5 minute walk will get you to the beach you see from the balcony which is also near two great swimming pools an outdoor bar and a small restaurant which is part of the community that the house sits in. As some mentioned you can occasionally hear music from the pool but it didn't bother us. The pool is far off and what you usually hear is faint bass. The beach right by the house is pretty and serene, not very crowded and guarded so its safe to swim in. That being said we went for the surf and if that's what you are into this beach has no waves. Unless you are just going to enjoy just the near by area I would strongly recommend renting a car because the house is a bit far from the main road though the road leading to it is paved and modern. Also, follow the house rules regarding insects and the kitchen, this is the case for any place you stay at in Costa Rica. You are basically in the jungle and any food no matter how modern the house will attract insects. Overall this is one of the best looking places to stay at in this area.
Our family of four, including our 2 teenagers, recently spent 3 weeks in this lovely home.
The property was as described, with only more benefits to discover upon arrival.
We were very comfortable in the home with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bed is very comfortable and the view from the bed upon waking, is of the ocean. We enjoyed leaving the window open through the night to hear the waves and the animals.
The kitchen is fully equipped, making it easy to prepare many meals. We prepared almost all breakfast and lunches at the house and probably half of the suppers, which suited us very well.
There is an ice maker in the freezer which was wonderful (an ice maker is one of my favorite things!), we had brought a collapsible cooler on wheels and would load it up before heading to the pool, or out for the day, with everything we needed.
We sat on the patio each morning to enjoy our coffee, we would watch for animals and birds in and out of the water, there were multiple sightings every day!
The location of the house is great as it is only 100km from the airport and the city of San Jose, on some of the best highways in the area, as we discovered with out many outings. It is also in a gated resort community, and the resort is fantastic, we spent quite a few days at the pool and played mini-golf, as well as enjoying the beautiful beaches.
We had rented a car and toured up to Arenal Volcano, down to Antonio National Park and everywhere in between. (GPS highly recommended if you plan to tour)
A short 15 minute drive down to the touristy town of Jaco had us taking surfing lessons and eating at unique restaurants, we would recommend 'Fish Tacos' if you like to eat your tacos while sitting in (email hidden) :)
We loved the trip and the house was a great home base. Our hosts were always available if we needed anything, responding very quickly to all our questions. If we find ourselves in Costa Rica again, we would absolutely stay here again!
Steve and Shannon were wonderful hosts and were very communicative during our stay in Costa Rica! It was our first time visiting, and their listing is inside a beautiful resort. I would note that the resort is in a secluded area, and would recommend renting a car if you want to explore other areas outside of the resort. The listing was exactly as described and extremely clean. The wifi would occasionally be spotty, but we didn't mind it since we were out and about throughout the day. We were absolutely amazing at the beach just down the hill. Playa Blanca was our favorite beach throughout the entire stay, and it was just in our backyard. Thank you again Steve and Shannon, we'll definitely be back in our next visit to Costa Rica!
Steven and Shannon are wonderful hosts with a beautiful home who's views will take your breath away. They were always available to answer questions regarding their home and trip in general. Timely and courteous, our questions were always answered.
The home itself is in a perfect location. At Steve and Shannon's you have the best of both worlds by having a private home located on the grounds of a top notch resort. If you want peace and quite the location of the home itself makes you feel you are on your own private peninsula. On the flip side, a short walk to the resort center will get you to three restaurants, pools, miniature golf, and a number of other activities.
Venturing out of the resort, beach towns Herradura and Jaco are only 10 and 15 minutes respectively by car. There you will find shops and dining and many other activities if the resort hasn't satisfied your itch for adventure.
We had a vacation like none other while staying Steve and Shannon's beautiful home. Thank you for sharing this magical house with us!
A lovely, well kept, modern 2 level overlooking the surf and parts of the jungle. part of the Punta Leona resort community, seemingly a popular destination for Spanish speaking (presumably Costa Rican?) vacationers. Lots of wildlife to observe just outside. We ate every breakfast out on the deck just looking at cool stuff.
A choice of walking down to the beach down below, or going down to the main resort and catching a free bus to the excellent Playa Blanca white sand beach around the bend. Nearby resort-style amenities, or drive back out to find more of the "real" Costa Rica.
We stayed for 3 months starting Jan 2014 with our infant. We had a wonderful time, the location of the house was perfect. We did not rent a car for the entire time , we used taxi service once a week to go to the farmers market on Fridays in Jaco where you can get fresh produce.
Both the beaches, pools, three restaurants all within walking distance. Playa Blanca is the most beautiful beach. With the provided wristband you can access all the resort facilities including birdwatching and night tour ( free of charge).
Beaches do get crowded during weekends, and music from disco on Friday and Saturday nights can be loud during low tide.
Steve and Shannon are great hosts, they are very organized, their orientation kit is very helpful. They responded quickly to all of our questions.
We will definitely come back to this place hopefully in the near future.
Attentive, helpful hosts with a beautiful home! We stayed at their house from December 27th – January 3rd and they expeditiously answered all of our last minute questions around Christmas and on New Year's day. The home is gorgeous and we appreciated all of the great vacation tips they sent us (hints on great restaurants, grocery stores, and activities nearby). You should know that their home is located in a very large gated club/hotel property (along with other houses) which has many pluses and a few minuses. Pluses: we never worried about safety (personal or belongings), you're located right in between two beaches (one of which locals actually pay to go to because of the beautiful white sand), there are things to do conveniently on the large club/hotel property (rent kayaks/stand up paddle boards/peddle boats, zip line, 3 restaurant options, etc). Minuses: they play music at night (I'm assuming on one of the beaches) until maybe 1 am? It might have been because we were there around the holidays and all you can hear is the bass, but if you're a very light sleeper and you go to bed early, I would ask Steve & Shannon if this goes on throughout the year. Also you have to wear a wristband for your entire stay. Surprisingly it didn't really bother us, even though we thought it would drive us crazy when they first put them on. All in all, we found the pluses to greatly outweigh the minuses (we thought Jaco was way too crowded and touristy, and Quepos was just too busy/city-like for the relaxing paradise vacation we were looking for). We really enjoyed watching the scarlet macaws fly past as we ate breakfast on the porch listening to the waves. And when we wanted some adventure, it was just a short walk or drive away.
My wife Shannon and I both work in the film industry in Hollywood. We love design and architecture probably because we work in such a visual medium. Shannon takes classes is welding and pottery and I like to fiddle with motorcycles and older British cars.
When we purchased Villa 501 we decided to model our house in a clean modern look similar to a "W" hotel but with a Costa Rican feel. We live in a 1920's traditional California Spanish style home and wanted to do something which we hoped would have a "Zen" quality to it.
