We drove in from Budapest for one night and all we needed was a bed, which this place had. In the pictures it actually looked to be one of the nicer places available and maybe it is in Debrecen. Erzsabet is very nice but does not speak much English. The place was ok as a budget option but not amazing either. We are a couple and I thought we'd have a queen bed, but instead it was 2 smaller beds pushed together which was less than ideal. The mattress wasn't great and the heater in our room didn't work well. We also encountered a large bee and large spider in our one night there.
Comfortable accommodation in an artistic house in a quiet, green part of Debrecen with fresh air. Clean, spacious rooms, stylish interior. Erzsebet was a welcoming and generous host. Great breakfast like being around a family table in the house of a friend. Would definitely recommend staying here for anyone.
This is a lovely house in a very nice quiet neighborhood. Erzsebet rents out rooms in her house in which she also lives. My graduate student and I were here to do a research collaboration with the University of Debrecen. We rented two rooms for ~10 days. We had access to the kitchen and laundry facilities. The only real issue we had is that Erzsebet's English was not that strong and our Hungarian was pretty much limited to hello, goodbye and thank you. We relied on our scientific host to translate for us which worked out okay.
Erzsebet was quite generous in terms of sharing coffee and pastries that she had made and of course letting us use her dishes, etc.
The location is great. It is a 15-30 minute to pretty much any place in the University; there is a small grocery about 5-10 minutes away where the #2 tram also stops.
The only other things I thought people should know are that she does have a dog who is almost exclusively outside, but if someone had severe allergies or aversion, that could be a problem. She did have one of the other rooms rented as well to an exchange student, but that was not a problem. Being Americans we found it strange that we had to hang our laundry to dry, but Europeans will probably not have an issue with it.
Erzsebet is a super nice and very welcoming host. She helped me with finding locations in the City, she was maximally flexible with her schedule and had always time for some chat. The rooms are huge, clean and comfortable. You will get the experience to live in a real family house for the price of a youth hostel dorm. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was that I stayed there in February, when the nights outside were still chilly. The heating in my room was not fully functional, so I felt cold over the night. However, even so I would anytime recommend you to stay with Erzsebet.
We stayed at Erzsebet's place for a long weekend and it was very comfortable. The rooms were cozy and despite the fact it was winter, nobody spend a cold night in the house. The shower especially was very hot which was a good thing! Erzsebet also lives in the house, giving you a look into a Hungarian family house.
