Good Living Getaway - House 'n Home

House - Private room · See Ping Mueang, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

The Space

My name is Christophe and I've been living in Chiangmai since 2007. I live alone in a big, beautiful house and am pleased to share this exceptional space with you.

The perks of staying here:

In addition to teaching regular classes in town I also organize personalized retreats, which means I am happy to steer you towards the best of Chiangmai's foodie hotspots, massage therapists, yoga studios, designer boutiques and unique day trips around the area.

Also, as the house has a yoga/massage room you are welcome to schedule a private class, or choose from my repertoire of Chiangmai's top notch specialty massage therapists. For more information on me, my schedule and events check out (website hidden)

The House:

'Esmerelda House' is a unique house fusing eccentric Italian artistry with Thai tradition. Located just minutes from the Old City's south gate it remains a haven of peace and tranquility. So make yourself at home. Retreat to the garden under the shade of a mango tree, fix yourself a meal just the way you like it or sip a coffee and catch up on emails in one of the many hang out spaces available.

The Room:

Yours is a cozy guestroom with a queen bed, closet, cupboard and air-con/fan. There's a shared bathroom upstairs and a second one downstairs. The master bedroom is also available if I happen to be out of town.

Getting here and around:

Let me know where you are and I'd be pleased to pick you up in my trusty sidecar. I've also got a good scooter to rent should you wish. In any case, between rickshaw's, red buses, motorbikes, bicycles and walking - this house is very well located and getting around is a breeze.

Prior to booking, please shoot me a message, let me know what brings you to Chiang Mai and we'll take it from there!

Boundaries in Thailand, such as the division between indoor and outdoor spaces, can often blur. As a result of such open air living environments, brace yourself for a full spectrum of surrounding sounds ranging from morning songbirds and late night frog symphonies to neighbourly chatting and the temple PA loudspeaker. Furthermore, please note that an adjacent plot of land is currently undergoing construction from 8am - 5pm daily. While the degree of noise varies greatly from day to day, I suggest you remain easy going, an early riser or heavy sleeper. In any case, of the several guests who have stayed here since construction began, all have nevertheless enjoyed their stay!

Check In
  • Christophe picked us up from the airport in Chiang Mai (on time) in his scooter with a sidecar and was instantly friendly and helpful. On the short ride back to his house, and later that evening on our way out on the town, he took the opportunity to orient us to the major landmarks of the neighborhood to help us get our bearings. Once we arrived at his place (more on that in a moment), he welcomed us with homemade lemonade and a great map and guidebook of Chiang Mai.

His house is an oasis--think Zen interior decorating magazine--clean, airy, and in general, a really peaceful place to rest your head in between adventures in and around the city. There is a full kitchen and two bathrooms, which made being there with four adults feel easy. There's also outdoor patio, in addition to the living room, meaning you can hang out in public space with others or on your own, as you choose. There’s also a yoga room, which Christophe offered to us as long as he wasn’t teaching a private lesson.

We rented Christophe’s extra scooter for the week we were there, which was a bit scary at first (traffic in Chiang Mai is busy) but really was the best way to see the city. Two helmets were included.

We hung out with Christophe and his friends (several of whom were former Air B&B guests) a couple of nights and did our own thing a couple of nights. Bottom line: Christophe’s place is the perfect choice for guests who: value a peaceful, pretty place to rest their heads; like exploring but also enjoy suggestions and recommendations from a local; and enjoy a mix of time alone and time socializing with new friends. This spot is clean, safe, and convenient and comes with the perk of a great host. Overall, highly recommended!

  • Staying at Christophe’s worked very well. I was there for 18 days and the room and house worked well for what I needed it for—a work retreat and base for some simple touristing.

Christophe met me at the airport—greatly appreciated by me! —in his famous motor scooter with sidecar. He lives quite near the airport, which is handy. Once at his house, he gave me a phone to use and a map of Chiang Mai! This is something I do with my guests, so it really impressed me.

He is a wealth of information about the city—best places to go for meals, places with lots of trees, shopping areas, Buddhist temples, Thai massage, etc.—and is part of a community of high quality healing practitioners and expats.

He even had a motor scooter I could rent to get around. It took a couple of days to get used to driving on the left side of the road and the flow of traffic that is governed more by intuition than traffic rules!

The house was very clean and comfortable. There was some construction going on next door during the day and a couple of evenings I was serenaded by a chorus of frogs—I had never heard anything quite like it before! However, all that became part of the Chiang Mai experience.

I highly recommend Christophe’s for those who value a home atmosphere, pleasant surroundings and “going the extra mile” service that Christophe offers.

  • Staying with Christophe was absolutely wonderful! We've got a very warm welcome and I felt immediately at home. We could use a city map and mobile phone, which came in very handy to discover the town. Christophe gave us a bunch of tips through which we've seen so much more than only the touristic places. When there was time, we met for dinner or coffee. Christophe is a realy kind and enjoyable man who lives is such a nice home, so I would definitely recommend staying with him if you want to discover Chiang Mai in a personal and pleasant manner!

  • It doesn't get much better than Christophe and his gorgeous home. We arrived in Chiang Mai early one morning, and took a tuk tuk to a temple that we had arranged to meet Christophe at. Minutes after we were dropped off, we realized we were at the wrong temple, with no phone credit left to call Christophe with. After borrowing a phone from a passerby and calling him, Christophe promptly came by and picked up in his trusty sidecar, problem free! There are several similar stories I can think of that are telling of Christophe's character - he's welcoming, organized, thoughtful, and most of all an extremely genuine guy. He'll equip you with some maps and a phone, let you in on his list of local secrets, and if you're lucky serve you some of his amazing tea.

If you're headed to Chiang Mai, do not hesitate to stay with Christophe - you'll feel right at home. He is the reason Chiang Mai was our favorite city in Southeast Asia :D And yes, the house is as nice as the photos make it seem!

  • This experience was amazing the moment we got a reply from Christophe, his good vibes were felt immediately. Our time in Chiang Mai was short but dense with goodness through Christophe's guidance and company. We honestly couldn't have asked for a better host. His presence is warm, genuine, and always a pleasure to be around. Christophe's home is a beautiful and clean place where we felt at home. On his advice, we rented a scooter and found it to be an awesome way to explore the city. His home is conveniently located, close to all the action in Chiang Mai and only 8 minutes away from the airport (unheard of!). We hope to return to Chiang Mai and meet Christophe again. He is someone we would gladly welcome in our home.

  • Christophe was an amazing host and is the reason Chiang Mai was a highlight of our two month SE Asia trip. He picked us up at the airport and gave a little tour of the city before taking us back to his sweet abode - a beautiful, peaceful house, complete with yoga studio and chilled out back garden. He set us up with a map (incredibly handy), directed us to an awesome noodle shop at the end of his street, and told us where we could get a good, cheap motorbike. He is just so friendly, welcoming and has the best vibe - we felt like we were staying with an old friend. We were actually only intending on staying two or three nights, but ended up staying for over a week with Christophe (thanks for being so flexible!). We had such an awesome foodie experience - Christophe know the best places to eat and drink! We'd definitely recommend Christophe, particularly if you like food, coffee and yoga.

  • Christophe is the best host i have ever seen! Picking up from the airport by his friendly smile and super lovely sidecar in a sunny afternoon was the first step heading to my wonderful trip. The location of his gorgeous house is perfect to everywhere, and further more, with local neighborhood around leads me to see the real life in Chiang Mai. Every morning, when i woke up with the birds (website hidden)s and saw the leaves fluttering outside the window made my day become wonderful. I always enjoyed spending my whole day sitting outside with cup of tea prepared by Chris and relax. This is a place that ppl will feel warm and comfortable and i love it!
When Christophe was available, he took me to his hot spots, coffee shop, restaurants etc. And a delicious dinner prepared by Chris was really delightful. The time spending together was interesting and inspirational.
Highly recommended and looking forward to go back to Chiang Mai!
