About this listing
Beautiful double villa: beach-side; heart of Sanur; 60m to main road; huge 18-meter pool; enormous, lovely landscaped Balinese grounds; elegant balé for gatherings/parties/visitors; shared kitchen; ample parking; 2400 m2/25K sqft total area of land
This is a rare, amazing opportunity that may not come again. This is a beautiful double villa (more below) with a huge pool and enormous, lovely landscaped Balinese grounds.
The total area of the land is 24 are (2400 m2 or over 25,000 sq ft) with a 17 meter pool and outdoor cabana/bathroom/shower, large open-air balé for breakfast or catered lunches or dinners, and groomed grounds, terrace, and Hindu temple.
Your space is offered at an incredible bargain fixed rate. There is one small, free standing villa in the corner of the property where an upper-management employee lives. She travels often, has a driver, leaves early, comes home late, and rarely uses other facilities. The other, larger villa is divided into two living spaces. Because you have a separate entrance from outside and no shared space, your space falls somewhere between AirBnB's categories: an entire home/apt and a private room. Think of it as a gorgeous private flat in Xanadu.
Entering through your private outdoor sheltered terrace, passing through the separate locked traditional Balinese doorway, your space has a 35 m2 huge bedroom with a classic Balinese outdoor but private and screened-in ensuite bathroom with all modern furnishings. The bedroom has remote-controlled A/C, a large flat-screen HDTV with CATV, a phone, a few tasteful furnishings, and a king-size bed with mosquito net.
At the moment, the adjoining, second space is also available, with all the same amenities as the first, except for in place of the terrace, you have a very large walk-in his-and-her dressing closet and big ensuite bathroom.
The space has 24-hour security behind a discreet gate down a safe, clean, mostly well-paved gang right off the main road in Sanur, Jl. Danau Tamblingan. It has a fantastic location on the beach side, just 5-minutes from the ocean (Bali Sea, actually). Bemos and taxicabs (regulated with meters) are just 50 meters away.
Free WiFi, parking, cable HDTV, A/C, hot/cold water, regular mosquito fogging, steps away from Hardy's -- the main shopping center for Sanur with everything you could need (breakfast is not included, nor is there a food service inside, however there is a small restaurant just at the end of the alley, about a 45 second walk). The actual address is better than shown, on the beach side of the main road, but AirBnB for whatever reason shows it on the left side of the main road.
This property will be gone soon, sold to developers of a major hotel chain. Enjoy a stay in majestic setting from another era when Sanur was a little known, sleek vacation spot, yet reside in great comfort with all the modern-day conveniences you would not ordinarily get for twice the price.
Guests have access to all the grounds, their own accommodations, the balé, the pool, pool-house cabana, the kitchen, and the parking area. The staff have an area behind the kitchen that is not for public access.
Interaction with Guests
You will have no interaction with us other than what you would like. In other words, if one of us is in town, which is most of the time, and you need something, contact us, and we will be right over.
There are two villa halves, as we have described them earlier. They are indeed side-by-side, so in a worst-case scenario, there can be some limited noise. In one suite the bed is on the far end from the dividing wall, and in the other it's in the middle, but it is not perfectly sound-proofed if, for instance, a child is crying quite loudly.
The pool, balé, and kitchen are shared spaces, so there is some interaction between guests and with the kitchen, possibly the staff. But over four years these have been extremely limited.
The villa is about 200 meters to the beach, as the crow flies. Since you are undoubtedly not a crow, you have to actually exit the villa, go up the alley to the main road, take a right, and then go down the beach road, Jalan Pantai Karang. You can see it on a map. 1 min by car, 6 minutes by foot, 450 meters.
To the main avenue for shopping, Balinese massage, restaurant, most everything, is really close, 50-60 meters, less than 1 minute walking; it's basically like down a long driveway.
There is plenty of convenient public transportation next to the villa. You may rent a car, motorbike, or bicycle and keep it at the villa.
You can access the villa, go down the short gang (alley) to the main road and hail a taxicab or bemo (jitney).
There are also tourist buses and Perama intercity buses/ferries that can take you all over the island and beyond. Here is a small list of where they will transport you for a modest fare:
Airport (15,000rp), Kuta, Ubud, Kintamani (minimum 2 people), Lovina, Bedugal, Padangbai, Candi Dasa, Tirtaganga (minimum 2 people), Tulamben (minimum 2 people), Amed / Culik (minimum 2 people), Lembongan (by Perama boat), Lombok Tetebatu (by ferry boat), Mataram (by ferry boat), Sengiggi (by ferry boat), Kuta Lombok (by ferry boat), and the Gili’s (by Perama boat).
Other Things to Note
There are two dogs on the property, though generally not wandering on it. One is a small dog, and the other one is a friendly golden retriever. If dogs bother you, please let us know and we can have them leashed and/or sequestered.
No special rules other than to understand you are in a traditional Balinese Hindu space. You should not behave as if you are in a Kuta discotheque or nude beach. Given the unguarded pool and Indonesian classic features (e.g., no guardrails on steps, etc.), this might not be an ideal space for young children.
Classic cabana, second lotus-pond in left foreground, your 18-meter pool in back with bamboo perimeter.
A lovely space, we would suggest if wish to book that you stay in the end apartment because it has an outdoor balcony and a sofa. Elisabeth greeting us with some beers and lovely fruit when we arrived was a lovely touch and the space was exactly as described, close to the main hub of Sanur but quiet and beautiful. Book now.
We were extremely pleased to welcome Daniel and his wife to one of our Bali offerings 5 weeks ago. Both were great guests that the staff really liked: communicative, patient, helpful, neat, very appreciative, and courteous. We were glad to meet them in person. Elisabeth dropped by (I was hosting an AirBnB guest in San Francisco) and found them very accommodating. We both found they had many helpful suggestions and insights on hosting and felt like we had known them a longtime. We felt very lucky to host them.
Scott and Elisabeth gave great information after the booking was made. They gave clear directions on how to find the place too, which helped our driver find it.
It is a lovely place with a wonderful amount of space. So much better than staying in a resort.
The staff on site take care can help you if you need it, but my partner and I had a pretty low key, peaceful stay. Exactly what we were after in Sanur. Even though it is near a street that can get busy, we heard no street noise at all.
The room was clean, the dog and cat are both friendly, the pool was lovely. We were very happy to stay here.
Zac and Michelle were charming and easy guests. Elisabeth and I were very glad to welcome them to Sanur and also glad that the resort and grounds served them so well and fit their desire for space and quiet. We recommend them very highly, and they're invited back any time.
Scott was a very good host and went out of the way to make us feel at home, great staff and nice accomodation with dogs , cats and occasional lizard
The place it self is old but fairly well kept and situated in a beautiful garden with waterponds, pool and all.
Really liked our stay here, the place has character and charm .. I would stay here again!
Mats, Lai, and very cute baby were very welcome and wonderful guests, also extremely patient with a new dog and a bout of intense Bali heat. The villa plus its classic grounds was the former home of the Governor of Brazil's wealthy brother, and these guests really seemed to appreciate the history, personality, and uniqueness of the space. We very much recommend them and would welcome them at any of our locales without pause.
We had a great time in this beautiful villa with its huge and gorgeous garden. We chose Sanur as our last stay in Bali because it is so close to the airport (30 minutes). We only spent two nights, but we are sure that a longer stay would totally be worth it. There is so much to discover in Sanur and its surroundings and it is also a great base for daytrips.
The villa is close to the beach, to shops and restaurants. It is in the middle of Sanur and still very quiet. Everything was as described, really clean and the bathroom was our favourite.
We could not meet Scott and Elisabeth personally, but the staff was very friendly and did a great job. Before and during our stay, Scott and Elisabeth always answered our questions, gave great advice on where to have diner or breakfast and made sure that we have everything we need. Thank you so much!
We were really glad to be able to host Christina and her friend, and we were happy she was pleased with our preparations. Elisabeth popped in to meet her in person but just missed her twice; I was in San Francisco hosting another AirBnB guest, but we had arranged with the staff and with Christina by email and WhatsApp most of what was needed. Christina was a really nice guest whom the staff liked and found very friendly and patient and appreciative. We'd really recommend Christina to any other AirBnB hosts -- a wonderful traveler.
Thank you for Scott, Elisabeth, and staffs. This villa is marvelous!!
We love this villa. Thank you for your fruits and beer, and thank you for cleaning our room. We spent lovely time.
We saw the sunrise in Sanur beach, because it's a short walk.
Then, Elisabeth recommended many restaurants, spa, and so on.
We went to her recommendation, and all of them were really fabulous.
It is near the main street of Sanur, so it is convenience, but it is quiet place in Villa. It was so nice for us, because we could relax in the beautiful garden of this villa.
We want stay again someday, and we recommend this villa for our friends and family.
Hanae and Ryoji were lovely guests and lovely people. I really enjoyed our email conversations, despite my reliance on their English and google!translate. Elisabeth met them at arrival and was very pleased and touched by the mementos from Japan that they brought. She liked them personally a lot and was quite happy that they enjoyed and appreciated the extras and suggestions that she provided. As we said about another of our guests who stayed at the same time at a nearby villa, we hope they will come back to see us at the villa and perhaps even stay at our new ecological resort in one of the last old-growth groves near the Sanur beach. Yes, it's a plug, but we're really proud of the design and want to share it with guests just like Hanae and Ryoji.
The reservation was canceled 25 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We were warmly met by Elizabeth and the staff and made to feel at home immediately. The staff keeps a close eye on everything and provides top service better than a five star hotel and with a personal touch.
All was exactly as presented on the web. It is a peaceful haven in the middle of Sanur's trendy area. Great restaurants with five minutes walk. Hardy's supermarket is also only five minutes away and nice for breakfast provisioning.
