Welcome to St. Johns, a unique, quirky, up and coming neighborhood in the city of Portlandia. Our home is walking distance to Pier Park, Cathedral Park, and downtown St. Johns, which has coffee shops, restaurants, bars and tons of thrift shops. My boyfriend and I are very active, love to entertain, skateboard and go on adventures.
My house is about 2 blocks away to the closest bus line and a 10 minute drive to the Yellow Max light rail line. By car it is a 5 minute drive to Forest park trails, and 15 minute drive to downtown, South East (Hawthorne) and North East (Alberta) neighborhoods. The Portland Airport (PDX) is a quick 15 minute drive from the house, and Sauvie's Island is less than a 15 minute drive. Feel free to borrow a cruiser board for an alternative way to venture around Portland.
Enjoy the entire downstairs of my house. I just remodeled the basement, which includes one private bedroom, bar and hang out area, and a workout studio with your own private entry. The private bedroom has a full sized bed, and the hang out space has a fold out couch which turns into a double bed. There's workout studio, flat screen TV with cable, wifi, hot tub, concrete mini ramp, driveway for parking, backyard with BBQ, and large deck and garden to enjoy in the summer. There's an utility sink downstairs, microwave and mini fridge stocked with bottled water, as well as a full upstairs kitchen and bathroom which are shared with us. There's a hair dryer, plenty of towels for hot tubbing and showers, and clean fresh linens for the bed and couch! We always have coffee brewing in the morning for everyone to enjoy. I have a washer and dryer available as well. This place has it all, you won't have to go anywhere else!
Small (housebroken) dogs under 20 lbs, are welcome, but not to be left unattended. I have a 12 year old 6 lb miniature pincher and a 2 year old sweet dachshund mix. The min pin is a bit barky when she first meets you, but she's harmless.
If you skateboard, enjoy my custom built horse shoe min ramp with steel and concrete coping, built by Dreamland Skateparks. Pier Park is less than a half mile away, with a world class skatepark, running trails, outdoor pool, disc golf course, playground, basketball court and tennis courts. Cathedral park, a great place to picnic or watch the sunset, is about a mile away, with stunning views of the St. Johns bridge and Willamette river. Forest Park with miles and miles of trails to hike, run or mountain bike is right across the St. Johns bridge.
You are welcome to schedule a private personal training session or attend one of my weekend boot camps on your stay. I train clients in my private basement studio in the winter, and outdoors in the summer. My boyfriend a former skateboard and snowboard coach at the Windells Academy, teaches private skateboarding lessons as well. Message me for rates and information.
Exactly what I expected based on the advertisement. The house was clean and well kept while the bedroom was comfortable and provided ample privacy. The couple is extremely cool and friendly with two awesome dogs. In addition, the outdoor area is a great place to relax with a spacious deck and the skate ramp. Of course the Portland weather has to cooperate to enjoy that aspect. Finally, the location is near the fun neighborhood of St. John's which is a great place to experience the real Portland instead of just the tourist stuff. If my travel plans bring me back to Portland I will definitely stay there again.
Jocelyn's house was modern and cool, and we loved having our own space in the basement. My partner especially loved having the gym, and used it both mornings we were there. Jocelyn and Ted were both extremely friendly, and made us a really good cup of coffee in the morning. Their house was in St Johns, which is out of the way of the rest of the city proper (especially if you are using public transit), but St Johns is charming and Cathedral Park nearby was beautiful.
We loved our stay here! The separate entrance makes it feel quite private and like you have your own space. The backyard is perfect for relaxing in. Cathedral Park is very close and such a nice place for picnics and wanderings. Jocelyn was a great host and always only a text away. =)
****** We had such a wonderful time staying with Jocelyn! The basement suite is very comfortable and clean. The neighborhood is really nice and quiet. Two parks, restaurants, market and pubs within walking distance. Dropped in for a Saturday morning training session in Cathedral park with Jocelyn and it was great! Definitely recommend it. Ted and Jocelyn gave us such great recommendations for food and fun in Portland. They made us feel so welcome. Very accommodating and attentive. Highly recommend this private downstairs skater paradise. Feels like home.
I almost don't want to leave a review because I want to keep Jocelyn all to myself. She and her place are above and beyond great. She is fun, accommodating, flexible, quick and responsive with her communication, and she makes a strong pot of coffee in the morning. The space is restful, comfortable, whimsical, amazingly enjoyable, peaceful and so much fun. I want to move in.
I stayed at Jocelyn for 2 nights with 2 friends of mine and even though we have not ended up meeting in person, the communication was super easy fast and accurate.
The place was amazing and wonderful. Jocelyn has setup for herself a really nice home and i am very grateful that she joined airbnb and decided to share it with others. The deck, the garden, the hot tub and for those who are interested the skate ramp would be a big hit i am sure.
Jocelyn and Ted are fantastic hosts! Very clean, comfortable and charming rooms - the house has a beautiful deck and gardens, too with a really cool 3/4 skate bowl in the driveway (and there's a hot tub)! They were super helpful with information about local skateparks and things to do in general. I highly recommend staying with them.
Jocelyn and Ted were so great! Their home is so comfy and clean. We slept great and the location was perfect for us. My 20 yr old son was hesitant at first because we always stay in a hotel or with friends. Jocelyn and Ted are now our friends:-) and we will definitely stay again or stop by and say hi if we are passing through. Ted gave my son a quick skateboard lesson before we left. we both enjoyed our time there. My son even joined them for a BBQ the night before we left while i relaxed downstairs and watched a movie and fell asleep. Thank you for your friendliness and making us feel right at home.

Jocelyn has a really cool space set up in her basement! It gets much more light than I expected and was extremely clean. The bed is comfortable and the sitting area has lots of space. The garden/patio is really pretty (tons of plants) and we enjoyed sitting outside one afternoon. And though the bathroom is shared, there was never a wait and it was also kept very clean.
It was easy to come and go via the separate entrance and convenient lockbox where Jocelyn left the key when we arrived later than (website hidden). John's really is pretty far from downtown Portland and the house isn't particularly close to the main area of the neighborhood, so it's much easier to get around from here with a car or bike. The light rail was pretty simple to find and there's plenty of street parking.
My only regret is that our schedule didn't allow me to try skateboarding! But regardless, it was a lovely stay in Portland.
My first time using AirBnB. Excellent experience. Jocelyn could not have been more welcoming! Great location and tons of amenities. Will stay here again my next trip to Portland.
