This apartment is quintessential Airbnb. If you're wanting to get away from the corporate hotel/extended stay vibe, this is it. You'll feel like Tyler Durden staying here.
You can drop a grand on the presidential suite at the Intercontinental or you can stay here - see what Kansas City is all about. It incorporates all the best attributes of the city - music, art, and entrepreneurial spirit.
This is where Bob Dylan would've stayed if it bad been available when he was touring. It'd be like staying at the Beat Hotel in Paris (if you could go back in time).
The foyer needs some work - it's pretty old. But it makes the experience even cooler. The carpets are a little shabby on the way up to your flat, but once you're there it's an amazing experience. Mostly art students from the Kansas City Art institute live in our building.
What you're next to:
+Country Club Plaza (100 ft away) - 100's of the finest
restaurant's and shops
+Nelson Atkins Museum of Art (200 ft away)
+Kemper Museum of Modern Art (150ft away)
+Westport (3 blocks) awesome place to go out
+Natures Own grocery (2 blocks away)
The lighting in this space is amazing. It's really bright during the day and at night the apartment glows. It's on the top floor of an old apartment building so it's really quiet. All the neighbors go to the Kansas City Art Institute or one of the other colleges. So if you wanna have guests back to the apartment for late night drinks it's totally okay - neighbors couldn't care less.
The Den is also the bedroom - sofa is a comfortable futon (it's a firm mattress). If you like waking up to bright light then pull all the blinds up - there are windows on three sides of the walls in the Den. It's an awesome place to sleep and wake up to (you can hear the plaza bells in the morning and just a slight hiss from the city).
Great place to watch movies at night - you feel like you're perched high up and you can see the plaza in the background. Netflix and pandora are both piped into the TV so there's plenty of things to watch or listen to (no cable though).
This is an old building so you'll see some shabby carpeting in the hallway up to your flat. Once you're inside the flat, however, its all hard wood flooring and it smells really fresh and clean. Some of our guests have described it as shabby chic.
If you're a performing artist and need the piano tuned before your stay just Paypal me $100 and I'll take care of it prior to your arrival. Piano is a 1985 Yamaha G3 (6'1" parlor grand). if you 'search' for our company on a search engine you can see our CTO playing Chopin Fantasie Impromptu op. 66) Best part is 3:10 and on. ;)
There are plenty of plates, glasses, champagne flutes, and other stems in case you want to entertain. There's a Nature's Own grocery
This one of our company apartments that I'm just lucky enough to be able to stay at, so don't feel like you're invading a home or anything. It's totally cool for you to stay here. And it helps us fund the development of our app. ;)

I love meeting guests. Hit me up if you want to grab a drink or something. Coffee is good too.
The neighborhood is so cool. One block from the museums (Nelson and the Kemper).
Mi casa, es su casa! Make yourself entirely at home.
Wonderful place with good location! Matt was a very thoughtful host. He gave me notes for how to keep warm in the apartment before the cold weather's arriving.
The light in apartment is AMAZING! We stayed for 2 weeks while finding a permanent place to settle in the city and Matthew was accommodating in every way - including several unexpected itinerary changes. An easy walk to the Plaza and an even shorter amble to the Nelson-Atkins! Would definitely stay here again.
Awesome place! It was in a great location. Matthew was super good at communicating. We had an enjoyable stay!
Matt's place is a perfect blend of art and comfort and close to central KC. Always a great place to stay.
Walking up the apartment, things look a little run down, but then you open the door to the apartment and...WOW! Matt has done one hell of a job with this place. Tons of charm. I was astonished how Matt had left the place for us...it sort of reminded me when a realtor stages a home. The lights were on, but slightly dimmed; jazz was cranking on the awesome Bose radio; and the place was toasty-warm on a frigid cold day in Kansas City. It's just a really nice thing to walk into after 10 hours on the road. Matt also accommodated our two amazing greyhounds, one of which whom immediately made his home on the bean bag as soon as he spotted it. Thanks, Matt!
First of all, the location is great. I loved being so close to the Plaza and a ton of amazing restaurants. Matthew's place is filled with character and I loved having the piano in the living room. Overall it was a great stay and I will be back next time I'm in KC. Thanks Matthew!
Fantastic apartment in a perfect location for our New Year's Eve jaunt to KC. The apartment is clean, comfortable, and decked out in amazing art. Matt was very responsive to questions. I loved walking just a block to the Nelson Atkins. Great place, great value.

The only classes I went to in high school were Jazz band, music theory, and chess club. If I had graduated I would have been 2nd from the bottom of my class. Something about being told to be somewhere at 7:40 (AM) everyday seemed so ridiculous. College was cool though - I have a B.A. in Political Science.
I started a company called PicPhix (sounds like Pic Fix). We created a(website hidden)iPhone app that makes it impossible to take a bad picture. How you ask?
See if you can figure it out. ;)
"PicPhix is such an interesting idea, it's so simple that you wonder why no one has thought of it before, but PicPhix is first." - Chris Bernard, Chief Experience Evangelist, Microsoft
Put that project on hold and we're now in development on an app to solve a very big problem for Airbnb and make Airbnb hosts lot more money. :) If you're an Airbnb host, ping me to be one of the first to know when we open for testing. This app will make your life so much easier.
Wr raised money to start start a photo editing company but became airbnb enthusiasts accidentally. We saw a very big opportunity to solve a very big problem for the airbnb community. We use whatever excess cash we make from our bookings to cover development costs.
In terms of guests - don't really care too much. Special preference to artists, musicians, or entrepreneurs. The more verified you are the better - have something about yourself in your profile - connect it to some of your social networks. Just nice to know that people staying at your place are connected and have a story. ...and if you think you can drink at a steady enough pace, you're welcome to join us for dinner or drinks (where ever we happen to be).
