JoAnn is a wonderful hostess. She and her roommate Kat were always helpful and friendly, but also very respectful of our privacy and space. The room and private bath gave us plenty of space and the king bed is very comfortable. There is a very nice view of the boat harbor just across the road from the bedroom window. JoAnn's house is conveniently located near the 101 freeway and central San Rafael, however we heard zero traffic noise in our room with the window closed. Her deck overlooks the San Rafael canal and has a direct view of Mt. Tamalpais. It's a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. For avid TV viewers (we aren't), it should be mentioned that the TV in the bedroom is an older model which operates on an antenna providing limited channel selection. JoAnn's little dog, Oona, is very cute but she does consider it her duty to bark whenever someone comes to the front door. Overall, in beautiful but pricey Marin, JoAnn offers her guests a great deal. My wife and I certainly enjoyed our week-long visit and look forward to staying with JoAnn and Kat again on future trips to Marin.
Terrific location on the water in San Rafael. Loved the flowers and the spacious guest suite. Was a bit noisy in the mornings.
JoAnn was a gracious host with one exception. I was unaware there was not a separate thermostat in the room.
While the thermostat in the hall was set at 65 degrees, the room itself was much colder. Personally I needed it to be about 70 degrees for my comfort, especially since I was had not been feeling well.
In the evening, while everyone was asleep, I set the thermostat to 68 degrees. I then went to sleep and awoke two hours later to a cold room. I checked the thermostat and it was turned off.
The next morning I had a conversation with JoAnn and mentioned that I needed it to be warmer in the room. I asked for an increase in the temperature and JoAnn proceeded to tell me how expensive her electric/heating bill is. I asked if it was possible to get a space heater in the room and while her roommate offered to locate one, JoAnn said 'absolutely not.' She reminded me again of her costly electric.
She suggested I wear a jacket or cover myself with a blanket. Then she mentioned how she was too hot in her room. I was aghast at these comments- after all I am the guest.
Finally her roommate stepped in and said JoAnn should increase the temperature to 68 degrees to avoid any further discussions.
Bottom line is this: If you plan to rent your room, make sure your guest can control the temperature the way they want it. Either get a separate thermostat, a space heater or let people know on AirBNB that the temperature settings are at your discretion. Or, don't rent your place at all. It is about the guest's comfort, not yours.
If it were not for that issue, I would have been OK with my stay. Lastly, I had no time to find another facility at that point.
I am sorry; however. I have probably hosted 300 people and have never had complaints with regard to temperature. The thermostat was set at 68 degrees for the remainder of Paul's stay. He also neglected to mention there is an electric heated mattress pad on his bed. I will purchase a space heater in the event I have such a request in the future. I also suggest to Paul that he consider a hotel in the future since I am not aware of any home that has individual thermostats in each room.
It's my first Airbnb experience, which is wonderful! JoAnn and her roommate
are very warmly and helpful. Very great experience!
We had another great airbnb experience! This time we were visiting family in the area who did not have sleeping space for us so JoAnn's place was more than perfect! Some hosts can sort of hold you hostage with conversation in the morning and she made it so comfortable for us to be able to quickly get on our way each morning and return to our private room to rest. Not to say JoAnn wouldn't be great to chat with!!! She and her room mate are very warm, interesting people.
Our bedroom and bathroom were extremely private (right up the stairs when you come in the house), up-to-date and comfortable. We had the feeling that Joanne could have helped us with any request we had. But, as I said, we were visiting family. We highly recommend this
JoAnn was very welcoming. Our room was lovely and so was her home. We loved the bed, it was so comfy and warm, I slept better than I do at home!
Hi, I'm JoAnn. Thank you for your interest. I am a Marin County native with Italian roots. I love Marin County and the Bay Area area. I am very knowledgeable about the area and like to be helpful to others.
I try not to take myself too seriously, have love and respect for my fellow man and try to live every day to the fullest.
