JoAnn was a gracious host with one exception. I was unaware there was not a separate thermostat in the room.
While the thermostat in the hall was set at 65 degrees, the room itself was much colder. Personally I needed it to be about 70 degrees for my comfort, especially since I was had not been feeling well.
In the evening, while everyone was asleep, I set the thermostat to 68 degrees. I then went to sleep and awoke two hours later to a cold room. I checked the thermostat and it was turned off.
The next morning I had a conversation with JoAnn and mentioned that I needed it to be warmer in the room. I asked for an increase in the temperature and JoAnn proceeded to tell me how expensive her electric/heating bill is. I asked if it was possible to get a space heater in the room and while her roommate offered to locate one, JoAnn said 'absolutely not.' She reminded me again of her costly electric.
She suggested I wear a jacket or cover myself with a blanket. Then she mentioned how she was too hot in her room. I was aghast at these comments- after all I am the guest.
Finally her roommate stepped in and said JoAnn should increase the temperature to 68 degrees to avoid any further discussions.
Bottom line is this: If you plan to rent your room, make sure your guest can control the temperature the way they want it. Either get a separate thermostat, a space heater or let people know on AirBNB that the temperature settings are at your discretion. Or, don't rent your place at all. It is about the guest's comfort, not yours.
If it were not for that issue, I would have been OK with my stay. Lastly, I had no time to find another facility at that point.
It's my first Airbnb experience, which is wonderful! JoAnn and her roommate
are very warmly and helpful. Very great experience!
We had another great airbnb experience! This time we were visiting family in the area who did not have sleeping space for us so JoAnn's place was more than perfect! Some hosts can sort of hold you hostage with conversation in the morning and she made it so comfortable for us to be able to quickly get on our way each morning and return to our private room to rest. Not to say JoAnn wouldn't be great to chat with!!! She and her room mate are very warm, interesting people.
Our bedroom and bathroom were extremely private (right up the stairs when you come in the house), up-to-date and comfortable. We had the feeling that Joanne could have helped us with any request we had. But, as I said, we were visiting family. We highly recommend this
JoAnn was very welcoming. Our room was lovely and so was her home. We loved the bed, it was so comfy and warm, I slept better than I do at home!
Perfect, perfect, perfect!! Without a doubt, absolutely the best possible place I could have stayed. Gorgeous and spacious home with an absolutely adorable hostess, Joann, and her housemate is just as delightful. I should only be so lucky as to get to stay here again. I just hope JoAnn's home is available when I return. I felt right at home with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and decorations throughout. The views of the marina on both sides and Mt Tam in the distance are spectacular. My bedroom and bath with my own private closet made for an awesome master suite. Very convenient to Whole Foods and Trader Joes both within walking distance. Thank you to JoAnn and Kat for making my stay so memorable. Look forward to next time. All the best to you both and Oona too!!
As soon as we got to the place, JoAnn welcomed us and introduced us to her adorable dog Una. She showed us around the house/room,which was nice and brief, and we made ourselves at home. The room was very spacious and the bed was huge. It even had heating pads on both sides (under the sheets) which was great for me, since I was having surgery and needed the most comfort. There was a mini fridge which fit all the food we bought (Trader Joes/Whole Foods was a nice 10-14 minute walk from the house). There is also a very nice window (which can be shaded with blinds) that had a beautiful view of the docks. JoAnn even supplied maps/everything you would need to know or help with if you are new to San Rafael/San Fran. The bathroom was spacious as well, supplied with toilet paper, soaps, and whatever you may have forgotten which was very handy, and if you needed to hang stuff or need extra towels/pillows, there was in the nice little walk in closet. Me and my girlfriend felt very comfortable being able to use the kitchen to cook. With JoAnn leaving briefly for Thanksgiving, it gave us some time to get familiar with the kitchen and living room. The back porch is really nice, as it over-looks the dock. In the living room, there is an awesome fire place which (with assistance) we were able to use. There is pretty and unique artwork everywhere. We were able to get to know Cat, and she is so accepting and open, it was fun getting to know her, and JoAnn as well, who was also very accepting and funny. My girlfriend and Cat even traded foods that she wasn't able to eat which was really nice. If you want delivery, it's an easy to reach area/and for taxis as well.
We would love to come again next time we every go to San Rafael!
