Joann is a lovely host. The room is beautiful. Our only concern was the t.v. noise, which Joann turned down once I mentioned it. I would recommend staying at her home.
JoAnn was very nice and hospitable. Her place was very clean and looked just like the photos! It was also in a great area very close to the highway and easy to find.
5 Stars! JoAnn was an excellent host. We only got to stay one night there, but she was so warm and welcoming. I read on other reviews that her chime clocks were an issue for other guests, and without my saying anything about it, she turned them off as soon as we arrived, noting that they were pretty loud. I was thrilled with the room and the location on the water--beautiful! I definitely recommend JoAnn as a host 100%.
JoAnn's home was the perfect venue for my visit to the San Rafael and Bay area. The large bedroom and bathroom was very comfortable and conveniently located at the top of the stairs as you enter her home. Everything was clean and inviting with fresh flowers and a great view of sailboats nearby strung with Christmas lights gave the bedroom a great holiday sparkle. The home's location offers a quick 10 minute walk to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Starbucks which makes a perfect trifecta in my book. Another 10 minute walk and you're in central San Rafael with great shops and (website hidden). Tamalpais is nearby offering great hiking and biking with incredible views of San Francisco and the bay area. Joann was very accommodating and pleasant to speak with and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend JoAnn's home to anyone who wants a great place to stay in San Rafael!
JoAnn's home is in a great central location with access to everything I wanted. Her home is clean and quiet, the bedroom is spacious and complete. She cares for her home as I do mine. I enjoyed meeting JoAnn as we went about our daily activities and while our conversations were brief, I learned JoAnn is thoughtful and interesting. I would definitely stay with JoAnn if I find myself in San Rafael again.
Staying with JoAnn and Cat was like being with family at home. Oona, the dog, is a cutie, and the two of us became good buddies. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. There was a nice balance between having time to myself or enjoying a conversation with JoAnn or Cat. Fresh flowers were in both the bedroom and bathroom. JoAnn's house is quite large and spacious. The guest room is located in a way to be private and has its own bathroom. There's a walk in closet with shelves which makes for lots of space to put ones things. The bathroom is large and well lit with ample counter space. There's water views from both sides of the house. The sofa in front of the fireplace is very comfortable, and is a great place to relax and read or catch up on ones email. The deck facing the water is the place to be in warm weather. It's quiet, and I slept well on a comfortable bed. Parking right in front and easy. I have good memories of my time by the water.
JoAnn was very laid back and made us feel very relaxed and at home. Awesome location - deck overlooking canal and marina with kayakers paddling by and boats reflecting in the water.
Walking distance to Whole Foods and close to San Rafael Transit Center.
Old grandfather clock was going off every half hour and we asked if it could be stopped for the time we were there and that was easily accomodated.
Clean and comfortable as always! Thanks JoAnn!
I had a stay that was mixed with good and bad.
First, the good. JoAnn and Cat seemed to be very nice, albeit my interaction with them was brief. And JoAnn's place is very beautiful. The pictures don't lie, and the area is gorgeous. And as other reviewers have also said, their dog is cute & friendly.
Now the bad. They have a clock that chimes every half hour, replete with full bells announcing every hour (11 bells for 11 o'clock, etc.). And as I said, it also chimes every half hour. It is not a quiet clock, and I am not easily bothered by sounds as I live next to the rail yard in Hoboken. But this was ridiculously bothersome trying to sleep, and when I asked Cat for help (JoAnn wasn't home at the time), she tried to move it further back in the house, but to not much avail. She also said other guests had been bothered by it, too, though I did not see anyone mention it in their reviews.
A night of no sleep was then compounded by a shower with no water. I had a stream of water that lasted about 60 seconds. Then it went dead. I have no idea why, and no one was around to be able to answer what happened. So I have no idea if this was a freak occurrence.
The other weird thing was the breakfast/departure. When I got out of bed, no one was around. There was no note about breakfast (which is fine if it's not included, but I didn't know if I was supposed to rummage through the fridge or head down to town for a coffee). And there was no note where or how I should leave the keys (seeing as if I left them on the table, it would leave their front door unlocked, which was something I wanted to avoid).
As I said, kind of strange.
I had a short but nice stay in JoAnn's home while my own was being renovated. It was clean, spacious and safe. It is a good base for exploring the bay area.
