The Space

Thanks for looking at our house situated in an Estate in a village setting - quiet and rural - yet close to some of the most interesting historical and cultural venues in Ireland as well as having excellent transport links close by.
The house is a modern, very comfortable and homely Dormer Bungalow with all modern conveniences.
The Guest Room is a comfortable size with good light and plenty of storage space. Guests have the use of the main bathroom - which is very spacious, bright and airy. It contains a Bath, Shower, Hand-basin and Toilet Bowl. Towels are supplied.
In Winter there is Central Heating but also an electric heater for occasional use when needed in any Season. Air Conditioning is not an issue in Ireland but cool/hot fans are available if required.
Guests are supplied with a 'basic breakfast' - juices, cereal, bread+ jams, tea/coffee. A 'Full Irish Breakfast' can be supplied - it needs to be requested at time of Booking and costs extra. Guests can, of course, supply their own foods and use of the Kitchen is allowed. Guests can use the Refrigerator/Freezer and Dishwasher. Where necessary the Washing Machine and the Clothes Dryer are available.
Guests should feel at home and can enjoy the study, patio or garden to relax in - just like our house pets do: we have cats and dogs -just to remind us that life is not all about work...
Our Estate is situated in a small village which has a shop, hairdresser, pub, restaurant and take-away. There is the usual Church( R.C. ), National School and Community Centre. Local sporting interests include Gaelic Games, Soccer and Cycling.
What makes our village unique is its situation to the most historic sites in Ireland - Newgrange and the Battle-of-the-Boyne - both sitting along the famous River Boyne. These great tourist attractions are only a two-minute drive from the Village. Of course there are other interesting Historical and Cultural sites close-by including the towns of Drogheda, Slane, Navan and Trim with the great attraction of Tara in the middle of these. There are also the historical remains of Christian heritage at Monasterboice and Mellifont Abbey.
Along with all of this history and culture is the vibrant modernity of bustling Drogheda only 3 kilometres away...with all the modern attractions/facilities of shopping, eating-out and entertainment for all ages. Just out of Drogheda is the beautiful, beachy shoreline of Meath at Mornington, Bettystown and Laytown.
Drogheda is also a transport hub with Rail and Bus Stations linking it to the rest of the country -especially Dublin and Belfast Cities. There is also the M1 Motorway allowing fast access to both Dublin( 40 mins. ) and Belfast( 60 mins.) and linking with the M50 motorway allowing quick access to South and West of the country. Dublin Airport is only a 20 mins. drive down the M1.
So, you can find the heartbeat of Modern Ireland in Dublin and its other cities but you will find the soul of Ancient Ireland along the Boyne.

  • Patrick was the consummate host! He was warm, inviting, very knowledgeable and we felt right at home. He helped us with everything we needed and offered advice for sightseeing that was very helpful. I would highly recommend staying with Patrick at Ancient Ways-2. The beds were incredibly comfortable. I also really appreciated how efficient Patrick was in pre-arrival communication. That was tremendously reassuring for someone who had never been to Ireland before and had never used Air B&B before. It felt good to have the confidence that Patrick was expecting us and we weren't going to get any surprises. We were very happy with all aspects of our interaction with him.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Patrick & Mary's place. The house is very clean and my room was nice and cosy. Patrick (email hidden) and is always happy to help out with your travel plans. He suggested plenty of great places to visit around the area and supplied maps and books. Breakfast was lovely. The house is very close to Newgrange but the best way to get around is by having your own car. There's heaps of things to do in County Meath and Patrick's place is the perfect home base for exploring this area. I recommend this B&B and I'll definitely stay there again next time I'm in Ireland.

  • Me and my boyfriend stayed with Pat on our very last day in Ireland. We were very tired from our travels and looking for a last minute place to stay near Dublin when Pat came to the rescue. Pat and his wife Mary greeted us into their home like long lost friends. They are lovely people very friendly, genuinely sweet, and extremely accommodating. We felt right at home !! We arrived very late at night and they still managed to offer us hot tea and scones. They also invited us to watch a movie with them that night which shows their great hospitality. Their house was very cozy and our room was perfect. The shower was the best in Ireland !!!. We woke up and had breakfast waiting, it was more like a mini buffet which I though was adorable. Pat was very helpful and loved to talk about Ireland and his travels. I really felt like I was at home.I cannot begin to stress that you should without a doubt stay with Patrick if you enjoy great hospitality. I really enjoyed my stay and wish I could have stayed longer. My last day in Ireland truly became my favorite day because I was lucky enough to have stayed with lovely people like Pat and Mary. Hope to be back in the future.

  • I was at Pat's after a couple nights in hostels and hiking, so I was really tired and went to Pat's for some rest (and sightseeing in the area). I was welcomed very warmly with tea and scones.

Pat and Mary are lovely people, very accommodating and helpful: Pat gave me a couple of lifts to go sightseeing in the area. Also, they like to talk about Ireland, its history and the news, I really enjoyed that.

    I also have to mention:
    - Breakfast like a king!
    - Nice room to myself!
    - Best shower in Ireland!

Thanks Pat and Mary for a nice relaxing few days!

  • Greeted with a cup of tea and a scone for both me and my local friend from Kells, Patrick brought me into his home for my very first Airbnb experience with aplomb. The house, the room, the welcome just couldn't be nicer. I dare say it was the best breakfast I had in all of Ireland too!

  • My stay with Patrick and Mary was a home away from home. Upon arrival Patrick greeted me and welcomed me to his home with such warmness. I immediately felt that I was in the right place. Patrick had a nice cup of coffee and a scone waiting for me which was really enjoyed. Travelling as a single woman I felt very secure. The house is so lovely, clean, cozy and warm. I had a great night's sleep and a very nice bathroom for my use. I really can't say enough because everything was such a positive experience. Patrick and Mary are a wealth of information regarding places to see and they are wonderful people to spend time with. Patrick supplied me with lots of tips on what to see in the area which was very useful. Patrick made me a delicious breakfast and even made me a hot chocolate before bed !!!! I hope to return in the future and have some more great chats. Thank you Patrick.

  • We had a wonderful experience staying with Patrick! We absolutely recommend booking here. Patrick was a warm and energetic host who made sure our stay was as pleasant as possible.

We drove in to Donore on our last night in Ireland. The house was just off the highway and easy to find. When we arrived in the evening, Patrick had a tea and cakes set up for us in the kitchen. He even told me to sit and rest while he and my husband got our bags from the car! We had such a nice time chatting with Patrick by the fire in the living room. Our room was cozy with the most comfortable bed we found in Ireland. The bathroom was huge with plenty of hot water!

We had to get up very early for our flight, and even so, Patrick made us a delicious breakfast of porridge, fruit, toast, and fresh coffee. It was a lovely last meal in Ireland.

Patrick's house truly was a home to us on our last night in Ireland. Our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer! Thank you for the great experience, Patrick and family :)

  • The stay with Patrick was a great first experience with Airbnb. He and his wife were very accommodating. The breakfast was nice to wake up to, and the room was clean and cozy. Patrick was well informed on sites and things to do around the area, and his conversation was truly welcomed!

  • We highly recommend this accommodation. It was a last minute decision and we were so glad we made it. It's a home away from home. Patrick and Mary were such warm and welcoming hosts. Their house and our bedroom were immaculate and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. Patrick and Mary had great tips on the area and recommended a place to eat that night. We had a superb time and enjoyed our chats about travel. Even though we didn't order the famed Irish breakfast that the other comments here talk about as we already had our own supplies, they still provided us with a beautifully laid table at breakfast time. We wouldn't have swapped this experience for anything. Have no hesitation in booking here.

  • For our first Airbnb experience, it was awesome! Patrick and his wife reserved us a fabulous welcome. They are both very kind and helpfull. The room is very comfortable, quiet and clean, as the bathroom. it's a very good location as a base to visit the Boyne valley, and only 2 minutes from the motorway, so much things to see there, including Newgrange (very close and interesting).
Thank you again Patrick, your typical Irish breakfast was a discovery and very good! We would come back with pleasure!

I like to hill-walk and listen to Classical Music( background to my Retirement ) but am an old 'rocker' too - in fact like many types of music. Also have gotten into cooking of late and enjoy dining with family and friends. I love Reading - both Fact and Fiction and also enjoy Film - regular and Art House movies. We( my wife and I ) like to have guests and enjoy cooking for them( if required ) and assisting them with their travel plans and also enjoy listening to their travel tales - it brings the world closer. We have travelled a bit over the past few years( now that the children have grown up). We especially love New York, Paris and Venice and Italy in general. We hope to broaden our 'tour palette' in the future to take in some of the other Continents - and look forward to being Airbnb Guests...
