The space
Life is happening all around us and we need to celebrate it, every day. Join us with a complimentary bottle of wine at checkin!🍷 Hikes are free, as are mountain top views and breathtaking waterfalls & long walks. The area’s excellent restaurants are ready to wine and dine you, and of course, carryout is available. Or cook the latest NY Times recipe that caught your eye, in the petite but well stocked kitchen of the Hobbit House. Then eat by the fireplace, at the table, or on the front porch listening to the wind whisper through the trees. Enjoy some quality time watching a movie or sit by the fire (we supply the firewood) laughing and making s'mores. Get a great night's sleep on a super comfy mattress in the fresh mountain air (seriously, SO many guests want to buy one I should get a commission). Come see us...the mountains beckon.
Welcome to the Hobbit House in the breathtaking mountains of western North Carolina. A small, blissful sanctuary. The perfect hideout for a week or a weekend. Just a two minute drive (if that), or an easy walk to the Cashiers crossroads, the Hobbit House is nestled within an acre of mountain laurel, holly and tall pines....an airy, sophisticated Cashiers cabin with in-town seclusion.
Privacy yet close to everything? Check. Spa bathroom? Check. The most comfortable bed this side of the Mississippi? Check. Sophisticated yet relaxed? Check.
The Hobbit House has been completely redone with stainless kitchen appliances and redecorated as a luxurious and peaceful retreat for two.
Get away from everything - yet have all the luxuries of home: HD Roku TV streaming service with many major cable channels and all sports channels (SEC AND ACC included, not major networks just yet.), Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, etc... WiFi, landline phone, washer and dryer, a petite but complete modern kitchen, sound dock for your iPhone, a bath with flagstone floor and a fabulous subway-tiled walk-in shower. On chillier days, there is warm air flowing at the flick of a switch, and cool stainless ceiling fans plus a high efficiency standing AC to cool you on the rare, warmer than normal day.
Follow the mountain laurel railing upstairs to the light and bright loft bedroom, where a wonderful night's sleep awaits under the rafters. The gel-topped, foam, king size bed(we have guests asking where to get one) will soothe you to sleep in the cool mountain air after a day of hiking, waterfalls or shopping.
Everything in The Hobbit House has been chosen specifically for this cottage. While poplar bark siding protects the exterior, inside you'll find a light, modern, designer-mountain feel with a pleasing whitewashed shiplap interior, artisan details, the latest efficient (energy and otherwise) appliances and cool art. For your skin, there are also new, top quality sheets and fluffy towels...you won't find another place like it.
In the morning, have your coffee on the Sunday porch swing next to the mountain laurel rails that line the deck. Listen to the sounds of the rain forest and the Carolina birds singing their tunes. Promise yourself that today, you WILL make time for reading. Ok, and maybe a nap on that same plush swing-bed. Later, enjoy a glass of wine there or take it with you walking the secluded roads and trails just outside your door.
While we do invite your dog to stay with you - we prefer they not get on the furniture, and especially on the bed. If you think they will anyway, we ask you use the provided dog sheets & sofa cover - as mentioned, we also charge an additional $100 fee for each doggie (limit 2). Please pick up any waste around the cottage. DO NOT THROW DOGGIE BAGS STRAIGHT INTO THE BEAR PROOF TRASH CAN! They fall to the bottom and make a horrible mess, which our poor housekeeper has to clean. Please put the baggies on the back porch until you take out your BAGGED trash, then put the bags of waste into that bag and then, into the can. I’m sorry to say, we will charge $75 if this rule is not followed. All trash must be bagged, even pizza boxes.
Please be mindful of the septic system and do not flush anything down the toilets or drains other than toilet paper. This includes any and all personal hygiene products, ANY kind of wipe, bleaches and strong chemical cleaners.
NOTE: A three day stay is required summer, fall and holidays...the exception being if we happen to have 2 days open last minute...just check the schedule. If so, please send a message...and if we can book the housekeeper, it’s yours!
Guest access
You have the entire cottage with open concept living area and kitchen, the loft bedroom is upstairs, the full bath is downstairs, for those who might have difficulty with stairs.
Other things to note
The Hobbit House is the best of all worlds in the Blueridge mountains...you feel like you're a million miles away, but great shopping, restaurants, hiking and such are only minutes away.

Neighborhood highlights
Cashiers is one of the most unique places in the U.S....the climate is spectacular, which is why southerners have been coming there for generations "to summer". It's easily 10-15 degrees cooler than anywhere else, and with frequent summer showers, everything stays verdant and fresh. The Cashiers-Highlands area is upscale, plenty of golf and tennis, plus incredible hikes, waterfalls and sweeping vistas, great restaurants....really, there's no other place like it!
