The Space

This is a separate apartment consisting of a queen size bedroom, kitchen/living room and private bathroom with a shower. This unit has a separate entrance so there is lots of privacy.

It is newly remodeled and has a queen bed with a new european pillow top mattress, flat screen tv, wifi, ipod dock. I leave your kitchen stocked with tea, coffee, milk and breakfast items to get you started. The kitchen is brand new and has a refrigerator and microwave. There is a wall of windows/french doors so there is lots of light.

I am installing a washer and dryer in this unit but in the meantime feel free to use the one on the upper unit.

There is (email hidden) bed and all the asosciated linens for an extra/third person.

There is street parking and no permits needed. There is often a spot directly opposite the car deck. If you are arriving very late at night let me know and I will give you my space on the deck and take a street spot.

Sausalito is really a fishing village and is twinned with Portofino, Italy - you get the picture. There are great restaurants 3 blocks away with..

- Cafe Divino - italian and live music
- Plate Shop - cocktails and american cuisine
- Sartaj - locals pit stop - amazing indian food
- Cibo - great coffee and breakfast
- Bocce - pizza and bocce ball on the waterfront
- Wellingtons - wine bar on the harbor

There is a quaint town with cute stores and lots of hike and bike rides. I have a whole list of attractions and rental outlets that I will leave for you in your room.

- take the ferry to the city
- paddle board around the bay
- hike mount tam
- bike to Tiburon and have lunch on the harbour at Sams
- walk to Mill Valley and lunch at The Depot in the village square

This house is unique in that it was built on the site of Sausalitos water tower so it is 22 steps down from street level and has a private walled garden.

Just so you know, I have a small 12lb dog called Mocha. He is curious and checks the property for raccoon damage each morning so you may see him. Careful he's a lover!

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Lovely place and very cute little tree house! We would definetly recommand it and would book it again for our next stay in San Franciso!

  • This apartment in the trees was clean, comfortable and spacious. The entire apt. is white which makes it feel extremely clean and well kept. The bed is plush and a dream to sleep in. The windows are large and open but because of the hill and trees, it felt completely private. The only drawback I see to staying here is that since it is up on the hill, and the roads are narrow, we found that we needed to get taxis often.

  • The flat is very nice situated. To get there You have to drive a steep and winding road including switchback.
If You are lucky You will get the key box open. The description is lousy.
By chance You may get Tanyia on the phone. She is travelling worldwide, so there is a good opportunity to talk to the answering machine. That doesn't help to much, while You are standing in a cold wind in front of the door.
There is no phone number to a person close by which is available and can help You. The description should be changed (including an drawing) and a phone number be on hand for somebody whom You can get by the time of Your arrival. I do think both suggestion can be handled easily.
She rents out two flats. The one she is living in on top of Yours and Yours downstairs. So You depend very much on the behavior of the person on top of You. If somebody is walking up and down You will hear it. But worst the house is heated by an air heating system which is controlled by the flat upstairs. You will have no possibility to influence it except closing an opening the vents. But that doesn't help.
The second night we had a person on top of us who claimed to become sick if he did not heat like the devils grandmother. So we opend both doors to survive.
This is another point which has to be taken care of.
The TV is apple TV. If You are familiar with it ok, if not try to get a normal TV. Good luck. Again no description.
So Yes it can be an nice flat if Taniya will give it some thoughts.

  • Loved the stay.

  • This apartment is beautiful - and you truly do feel as though you're sleeping in trees. Tanyia adds many extra touches which make it special (the wine and chocolates and fruit when we arrived). The apartment was spotlessly clean, filled with everything we needed and a few extras too! It's also in a beautiful spot - just a short walk down the hill to the ferry and the shops and restaurants in Sausalito.
On the negative - I have to agree with other reviews that the place is unfortunately let down by the noise from upstairs. We were woken at 4.30am by the neighbours walking on the wooden flooring and by conversations and tv. It was just everyday noise so just a lack of soundproofing rather than noisy people. It was really disappointing as it made our stay less relaxing than it could have been and every other aspect of the place was great.

  • Sausalito is an artsy, quaint place and we were happy to have experienced a stay there. Tanyia's place is cosy, warm and tastefully decorated. Tanyia also left a bottle of red wine with two glasses and a pack of chocolate (very welcoming gesture). Parking is a big challenge. Nice down cover, but a bit too warm.

  • My sister and I stayed in Tanyia's place in Sausalito. It was a great experience. It was very close to everything -- an easy walk to downtown Sausalito and the ferry, very convenient to the highway, supermarkets, etc.
it was spotlessly clean and was nicely decorated. i think when it gets more renovation completed, such as the deck, it will be even better.
two things that could be improved: the stove was like a camp stove, not great for cooking any real food.
additionally, the person above us woke up very early on Sunday morning, at like 7am and was stomping all over in a very loud way. too early for a weekend. Either the ceiling needs more insulation, or the unit above needs carpeting.
all in all, it was a good experience and Tanyia was a great host. She left us a lovely bottle of wine, some yummy fruits, truffles, almonds, and snacky type stuff. The bed was soft and cozy. I took a nap on the living room couch -- someone could easily sleep on it for the night. Thanks Tanyia!

    Response from Tanyia:

I understand. The ceiling does have insulation and I do ask guests upstairs not to wear shoes. I am not sure what else I can do. I also let them know that there are guests in the lower unit. Not sure what else I can do.

  • Thank you for a wonderful stay. It really felt like a retreat in the trees, away from the city. It makes me want to move to Sausalito.
Tanyia's place is clean with beautiful views. The kitchen is very basic but who needs a big kitchen with the great restaurants in Sausalito?

  • My wife and I highly recommend this place. Close to town, beautiful setting, clean, wonderful host. It was everything we needed. Just far enough away from the city to relax and just close enough to enjoy it. What a wonderful place.

I am a global ethnographer so I am on the road a lot. It's my job to meet people from all walks of life. Recently I spent a year in China researching women across the country and so why not open my home up and meet people in my own back garden so to speak! This is my home and it has a second unit with a private entrance so you may never actually see me if that's more comforting! I have rented this home many times with (website hidden) where there are lots of great reviews. Please check this out if you would like to see the rest of the house to give you a better idea of your space. (website hidden) I look forward to meeting you. Best. Tanyia
