I have a two-bedroom one-bathroom flat in the Ivy Hill area of Oakland. It is located a few short blocks from the gorgeous Lake Merritt and about one mile from loads of coffee shops, Trader Joe's (a grocery store) and restaurants/bars. There is a bus right outside that can take you downtown to the BART (subway system) that will take you into San Francisco. There's also plenty of street parking. My flat is on the second level, so you will need to climb up stairs to reach my flat. There is no elevator.
Why should you stay in Oakland during your visit to the Bay Area? Oakland has a lot to offer, sunnier weather being at the top of my personal list! Oakland also has great restaurants, bars, clubs and neighbourhoods to explore and it's just a very short 15 minute drive across the bridge to San Francisco. If you haven't rented a car, Oakland is easily accessable to San Francisco using BART (the subway system); it's just a speedy 10 minute ride into downtown SF! Oakland also has an array of gorgeous parks and hiking trails and is close to Briones and Tilden state parks.
I keep my living space very clean. There are couches you can lounge on in the living area and a table with two chairs to use for meals. I have premium cable including HBO (and On-Demand), an AppleTV (Netflix, etc), lots of DVD's and high-speed, secured WiFi that you are free to use. The kitchen is yours to use as well; I am a vegetarian, however, and ask that you please don't prepare/cook meat in the kitchen. (You can eat meat in the house but I just don't want it cooked here - fish is fine).
I am friendly and easy going and love hosting travelers! I ask that you be respectful of my space; no smoking indoors and minimal noise after 10pm. We will be sharing the bathroom so of course I'd like to be respectful of each other's time and space when using the restroom/shower.
I am working three jobs at the moment so I am most always gone. I wake up at 6am for work and also work on the weekends, so it's a bit of a challenge to coordinate check-in, but it is definitely manageble as I am flexible.
I worked in a mattress store for 14 months in 2012, so you will be sleeping on an all organic, luxury, top of the line mattress and premium latex pillows! It is quite comfortable, so expect to sleep well. I also provide premium bath towels and linens for you to use during your stay. There are two bedside tables in the room as well as a velvet chair and desk. There's also a chest and closet space with hangers to hang your clothes if needed.
There is a coin operated washer/dryer in my four-unit building (located downstairs, you will need a key to get inside the laundry room). The laundry costs $1 per load (four quarters).
If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact me! I look forward to hosting you!
**There are NO PETS allowed in my flat at all, at any time.
** NO OVERNIGHT GUESTS ALLOWED!
Naomi is a nice and friendly host. I just stayed for 3 nights but felt very comfortable. We just met two times as we were both very busy.
Room is very clean and with friendly decorated. Matress is a Little too soft for me but still slept very well on this high Quality bed.
Street parking is okay and Naomi offered her spot when she was out.
Would definately stay again.
This was our first airbnb experience. Booking was easy and Naomi was quick answering and arranging on a short notice. We appreciated that.
We stayed four nights at Naomi's place and visited the city and friends in Pleasanton since we lived in the area.
The apartment is close to the nice Lake Merritt, coffee shops and a laundry; both with WiFi. We were concerned about the Oakland neighborhood but didn't experience any problems here.
The whole apartment was very clean, tidy and we had privacy in our room. Naomi is super busy so sharing the bath was no problem at all. The bed is too soft in our opinion.
From "bnb" we expected a bit more from the second b than nothing. We had to get out of the house and walk down the street to Woody's Cafe for coffee and breakfast.
I came as a guest, left with a new friend for life.
All the other reviews talk already about THAT mattress. I like to emphasize on the beauty of the neighborhood. It is rather special. Everything is close by and easy to do by foot and BART.
For the real neighborhood experience I recommend to your laundry in Woody's launderette. Not only does it the best job you meet the most wonderful and colorful people.
I can recommend everybody to stay at Naomi's. Only, not when I want to come back. I am spoiled now and do not like having to find another room
Had a great stay with Naomi. She kindly picked me up from the BART station and was happy to coordinate with me regarding initial changes in the reservation. The room was clean & exceptionally cozy, and I definitely felt at ease in the area. Haddon Hill Cafe and Champa -- neighborhood faves -- are just a few minutes' walk away. Naomi herself is incredibly personable, funny, and interesting. She boasts an extensive book collection, for any English lit nerds out there! I'd definitely stay with Naomi again, and I hope to see her in the city in the near future!
I stayed at Naomi's place for a few days in August 2013 on a VERY short notice. Naomi is a very friendly and chill host. She accepted on AirBnb and, smartly, since I was on the move, arranged the remaining details of the stay over text message. Even though I arrived shortly after she got home from work and dinner, the room, in fact the entire apartment, was tidy and ready. I really appreciated all of that. The room is quiet and has a VERY comfortable bed. Even after 9pm, I found parking about a block away. This was my first, and a very pleasant, AirBnb experience. I definitely recommend Naomi as a host and would gladly stay at her place again!
Our stay at Naomi's place was really nice. It was really nice to meet her and talk with her (even if we had the chance to meet only the first night). She gave us precious advices and print us a map of the city that helped quite a lot on our first evening and the day after in Oakland. The hole place is really clean and comfy and the room is really gorgeous and the bed just amasing ! We hardly recomand to stay at Naomi's if you want to visit Oakland, Berkley or San Francisco.
I stayed in Naomi's place for a few weeks and I couldn't have picked a better place. Naomi is a wonderful host. The apartment is quiet and relaxing. The room is spacious and there was more than enough closet space and drawers to unpack so I could really feel at home. And, of course, the bed is as comfortable as the other reviewers have raved. The neighborhood feels very safe and friendly. I usually took the bus to the BART station but occasionally enjoyed the walk to the Lake Merritt station.
Naomi is very accommodating, helpful and easy going. I would definitely consider staying there again. Highly recommended. Thanks Naomi!
Staying at Naomi's place was a real pleasure. She is really hospitable, helps where she can, and makes sure that you have a fantastic time - which I had indeed. So sad I had to leave again!
I stayed with Naomi for over 30 days while doing a medical rotation at Kaiser Permanente. Living with Naomi was an awesome experience. She is very sweet and hospitable. Her place is very clean and comfortable. I traveled all the way from Chicago to live with Naomi while on this rotation and my whole experience could not have worked out any better. I attribute my success on my rotation to the comfortable atmosphere that Naomi provided. You will not be disappointed if you make a reservation to stay with her. She has an excellent library of books and DVDs as well :) Thanks Naomi for everything!
Naomi's place was very clean and very orderly. Great location, very close to the lake, and blocks from an awesome Thai restaurant. Naomi herself was very organized and did everything possible to make sure that my stay in her home was easy and enjoyable. And yes, the bed (like everyone else has mentioned) was awesome! Best sleep I've had in a long time. Very quiet room also.
