Cozy room near Downtown LA. Cheap!

Apartment - Private room · S Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90031, United States

The Space

We have comfortable single room in Lincoln Heights (just east of Downtown and Chinatown) for nightly/weekly/monthly rental.
The room is newly furnished with an extremely comfortable twin bed, heaps of closet space for suitcases and hanging clothes, draws and a reading lamp. The room is small but has a great deal of space for all of your things. You will have access all facilities in the rest of the house including full kitchen, bathroom, lounge room, outdoor ‘tiki’ bar (construction currently underway), barbeque, and wireless internet.

Lincoln Heights is a cool neighborhood with a relaxed atmosphere near downtown LA, there are fantastic restaurants/food stands all around. We live a short walk from a big supermarket and many other conveniences: libraries, bars, shops, galleries, pharmacy, restaurants, liquor stores, Laundromat, dollar stores, food, gas station etc.

We live in walking/cycling/metro distance to Chinatown, The Brewery Art Colony, Downtown, Dodger Stadium, Elysian park, Union Station (where you can get public transport to just about anywhere in LA), San Antonio Winery, and Little Tokyo.

If you have a car, Downtown, Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silverlake, and Echo Park are just a short drive away. If not, there are buses that run right down Broadway (at the end of our street) and some that run 24hrs. We are live in a very convenient location if you want to travel around LA on public transport.
Please note if you have a car we have STREET PARKING ONLY available - but there is plenty of it.

We are an artist couple originally from Australia, who moved to LA a few months ago after traveling around the US for 12 months. Tom is a painter and Bonnie is a video installation artist. We both work day jobs also to support our art.
We have lived in many different cities all over the world and love to travel, from our experiences we have a great understanding of the things you want/need when you are traveling and we are happy to accommodate you.
We are both huge fans of LA! We love this city and are constantly fascinated by it.

If you are into art or film we are happy to give you tips on what to check out while you are in LA.

We are happy to have short or longer-term visitors so please contact us if you have any queries about the duration of your stay.
Although we have check-in and check-out times, you are welcome to hang around the house or leave you bags in the lounge, we just want enough time to make up the room for the next guests.

We also have another double room for a couple or a single available so please check out our other listing. We also have room on a fold out couch in the lounge if you are a group of friends (please send us a message).

Thank you!

Bonnie and Tom.

  • I was so grateful to find this little spot. It was perfectly located for me as I was biking and bussing everywhere. As a woman, I felt totally comfortable staying with Tom and getting around the neighborhood. The place was clean and simple and Tom is a total sweet guy and had everything ready for my arrival. I felt immediately comfortable and was able to treat Tom's home as my own for the month that I was in LA. I stayed in the smaller room and found it to be a sanctuary for me. I am 5'4" and 125lbs and the bed was perfect...but it might be a little small for anyone much bigger or for any snuggling.

  • Tom was very accommodating. I put the request in to stay on the morning of the day I wanted, so very short notice but he was able to make it work. The room was perfect for my purposes. The other boys staying in the apartment were very nice and friendly. I would recommend staying with Tom, he made everything very easy!

  • A great entrée to Los Angeles! Public transportation, laundry, and groceries are all close by. A bit of a drag to get in and out of the neighborhood on buses outside of rush hour but definitely doable.

Tom is a gracious and accommodating host. He's talented and charming--I enjoyed our chats. One never need feel lonely in the big city so long as the Tiki Bar is open.

  • It was one of the best experiences I have ever had in renting a room and living with people - and I've lived with (literally) near 100 people. Both of them are absolutely wonderful.

A bit about the experience: there were no welcome margaritas, but there were welcome PBRs; I didn't see much of the inside of the apartment because I was always at the tiki bar enjoying the beautiful view (drinking aforementioned PBR & smoking cigs)- with that said I believe there should be cushions on the stools, sitting out there for so many hours leaves a sore bottom; Tom is great, even when calling me low-rent & saying my music taste sucks; when I was upset one night Tom made me wear a straw hat while sitting at the tiki bar - it truly does lift the spirits; he was incredibly accommodating to changes, and when my sister picked me up from out of state he was very friendly and inviting; thanks to Tom and the other guy renting I now know how to properly pronounce the letter "d."

All in all, I highly recommend renting from this place, it was a great experience, great people, conversations, and a living situation I will not soon forget. For women who may be traveling alone: it was very safe, comfortable, and inviting. It is right down the street from several buses which made getting to downtown extremely easy, and walking distance to laundry and grocery. For your own bedroom the price is absolutely fantastic. I stayed in L.A. for three months, lived in two other places in L.A. prior to here, and this was the best of the bunch.

  • I cannot speak highly enough of my experience at Tom and Bonnie's place.

Tom was out of the country during my stay so, unfortunately, we didn't get to meet. From the moment I arrived Bonnie made me feel very much at home. The smaller room that I stayed in had everything I needed and I was also able to comfortably set myself up to work in the living room and front office. Tom and Bonnie's home is full of charm and they have done a fantastic job constructing the Tiki Bar on their balcony, which is a great spot to relax with a drink in the afternoon/evening and to catch the fireworks from Dodger Stadium. During my stay I always felt as though I had plenty of my own space. That said, Bonnie was also a very sociable host that was happy to hang out and chat about life in LA and give recommendations for great places to eat, drink and hang out around the east side (many of which were easy to get to by bus).

Bonnie was an excellent host and friend throughout my stay and I give Tom and Bonnie's place my highest possible recommendation.

  • I really, really loved staying with Tom and Bonnie. They were wonderfully friendly and informative from the very beginning.

They were brilliant hosts, offering lots of help and were very welcoming. They were always willing to chat but also really comfortable with letting you have your own space.

Their place was lovely and clean, and I found it so well placed that getting around LA using public transport couldn't have been easier.
I loved my stay here and would definitely stay here again any time I was in LA.

  • I stayed at Toms and Bonnies Place for 5 weeks and it was great! They were really fast with answering from the first! Also when my traveldates changed they were just great and helped me out very fast! I only got to meet Tom as Bonnie was abroad, and he was very easy going, smart and open! The room was perfect for travelling. Everything was clean and I had total use for the kitchen and the bathroom. Its easy to get to Downtown LA-Busses are very close and it takes you only 8 minutes to Union station. I can only recommend staying at their place!

  • Bonnie and Tom very nice friendly and sociable guys, but if you want to be alone, no one bothers you.
The place is simple, inexpensive and clean.
I put 4 Stars just because (at that time) parking was available only on a street.
Nothing to worry about but a little inconvenience when the "Street Cleaning" time and you have to park away.
I do recommend this place if you want to stay in a budget near Downtown LA.
