A simple peaceful room in the hostel garden by the pool. Ideal for couples on a budget.
The much loved hostel Lao (currently top rated speciality lodging on Trip Advisor and top rated Mendoza hostel) brings a simple, cozy double room to the Airbnb community. The room is in the pool house in the hostel garden. It is one of two smaller independent private rooms in the pool house that share a bathroom. The rooms are very quiet as the area is situated apart from the main hostel building. Both have large windows out onto the garden. Sheets towels and a varied buffet breakfast are included and complete use of our stunning home/hostel. One of the rooms can be converted to a twin if you give us notice.
We treat our hostel like a home and ask you to do the same. It is our escape from the rat race. A home from home where you can relax and meet travelers. A comfortable base from which to explore one of the worlds great wine capitals.
When you stay with us you can access your room and you have complete use of the house as if it were your own. Including a fully equiped kitchen, two living rooms one of which has cable TV, free internet, wifi, a wine cellar, garden, hammocks, plunge pool(in summer!) and a traditional Argentine Asado pit.
Interaction with Guests
We have a 21 hour reception and always do our best to provide ways to experience a more Mendozan side to this beautiful region of the world. The best thing about staying with friends is that we know where the locals go.
We are located in a busy and safe corner of the city centre. You will find we have a fantastic range of shops, cafes, delis, wine shops, tasting rooms, plazas, museums and much more all within a short walk. Our local plaza also houses a small antiques market on weekdays. Just ask us and we will make sure you find everything!
Buses to all over Mendoza and her wine regions leave from infront or a 5 minute walk from the house and the main bus terminal is located just a 10 minute walk from the front door.
Other Things to Note
Reception closes between 2pm-5pm for siesta. We are open at all other times. If you arrive during siesta please let us know so we can arrange for someone to meet you. Keys are provided so all guests can come and go as they please.
There are two rescue dogs on the premises at all times.
Enjoy our home like your own but please take care of it as you would your own. We ask that you do not feed the dogs and that you do not smoke inside the house or the rooms. You are more than welcome to smoke in the garden. Guests are only allowed inside the hostel with approval from reception.
We had a great stay at Hostel Laos. We stayed in the pool room for three nights and in the balcony terrace room for one night. Both were lovely - especially the terrace with a private bathroom. The pool room was incredibly quiet, which we greatly appreciated. It had a small deck where we had our dinners in privacy.
The hosts-staff at the hostel were incredibly friendly and offered great suggestions for area tours. The facility was cleaned every day and the linens were nice.
Good stay in Mendoza, thank you Hostel Laos!
We had a lovely stay in Lao Hostel. The hostels place easy to access everywhere. the rooms are a little bit small especially in the garden part but its not much important since it has a very beautiful garden to spend time.
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. We would just like to comment on the size of our rooms. You stayed in the pool house which has 2 smaller rooms, the smallest in the hostel, and this is reflected in the price. All the other rooms in the hostel are actually very large. The next smallest double is more than twice the size of a pool house room. we try to keep the pool house rooms as small but very functional spaces to offer options for those on a tighter budget.
Mendoza and Hostel Lao got us stuck for a longer than we expected. Planned for 2 nights and stayed 5. Mainly because of the great people that run Hostel Lao. Celeste, Mike and Fransisco especially made it memorable with their hospitality, great humor and taste. And their endless helpfulness.
We got some really good advice from them about restaurants, wineries, places to go to etc.
The atmosphere at Hostel Lao is friendly and relaxed. It is definately not a teenage backpacker partyplace, but a place where adult packpackers hang out and socialize over the fantastic wine from the area.
We give them our warmest recommendations and feel a bit melancholic about leaving. If we should come back to Mendoza, we would seek Hostal Lao as the first thing.
Hostel Lao was a very peaceful and relaxing place to spend a night in Mendoza. Had we been more than passing through, we would have been happy to stay longer. The common areas--especially the back garden--were extremely pleasant. I would almost have preferred to hang out there with a bottle of wine (available at the front desk) than go on the bodega tour (which Celeste recommended, and which turned out to be fun). Margarita, the hostel dog, made us a little homesick for our own dog, but in a good way.
Hostel Lao has such a great atmosphere, centered around its beautiful courtyard and pool. We loved our stay here. The hosts were all incredibly helpful, always going out of their way to help us out. The only downside (and it is incredibly small) was that we found the table outside our pool-house room a little too close (nighttime guests talking and smoking outside our window -- but not too late).
Great hostel. Very cool vibe, meet nice people and breakfast every morning was a true treat w local favorites

We are an Argentine/English couple who live in Mendoza, Argentina. We own a boutique hostel(Lao) and are currently creating/planting a home/garden in Vistalba to be closer to the best of Mendozan wine. We are interested in relaxed local experiences, real food, superb wine and plenty of good music.
