WELCOME to my sunny 450sf studio apartment inside an historic 1930's era Art Deco building in Capitol Hill. Located in a quieter part of the neighborhood, it is central to everything, walking distance to downtown, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, museums, library, State Capitol, Convention Center, grocery stores, parks, shopping, yoga, music venues and clubs.

APARTMENT 206 is bright, quiet, and comfortable for one or two guests. It has east and south-facing windows on the second floor corner, so there’s plenty of sunlight. It has hardwood floors, original Deco wood trim and details, and is minimally furnished. I live simply and peacefully and use my home as a place to rest, rejuvenate and recover from the frenetic pace of life in the modern world. I do NOT have a TV, microwave or a lot of electronics, and this is by design. The building is 80+ years old, minimally updated, but well preserved...think plenty of character, clean and comfortable. If you enjoy peaceful, lived-in spaces with a European-style charm and feeling like you're staying with a friend, you’ll love my apartment. If you require luxurious accommodations (who doesn’t love those!), highly manicured grounds and spaces, room service, everything new, etc…you will want to look elsewhere. This is for the independent, low-maintenance, self-directed, budget traveler who enjoys a home away from home. (NOTE: I currently require a 2-night minimum stay. You are welcome to stay only 1 night, but the fee will be equal to 2 nights at the standard rate.)

And please, fully complete your profile prior to inquiring. It's nice for hosts like me to know a little about those who would like to stay in our homes. Besides, it's fun to learn about new people, and occasionally, make new friends.

• Reserved parking space at no additional charge (this is a must in the Capitol Hill neighborhood!)
• Kitchen is small but fully stocked. Feel free to cook. Use the citrus juicer for fresh-squeezed juice in the mornings. There are multiple grocery stores within walking distance. Multiple farmers’ markets are bikeable on the weekends in summer and fall.
• Bathroom has a shower/tub (see "Potential Cons" below), hair dryer, toiletries, towels, etc
• Comfortable low, queen bed is firm with feather pillows
• Free building WiFi
• B&W/color printer, paper, office supplies
• Old school AM/FM clock/radio/CD player, collection of CD’s
• My old town bike (women's) available for your use * or * Denver's BCycle public bike program
• Hourly/daily car rental available a few blocks away, search online for Occasional Car in Denver
• Art space…if you’re an artist, or want to be, I have a little art space with a few supplies, and you are invited to play. (Please clean up after yourselves!)
• Big kid toy box including bubbles, sidewalk chalk, water guns, board games...add to it if you have something to contribute.
• All linens are provided. A clean coin-op laundry is located in the basement, 2 flights directly below the apartment. No housekeeping service available during stays shorter than 7 days unless you are willing to cover the additional cost for it.

This is an old building and some systems have not been updated. It's been well taken care of by the owner of 30+ years who has preserved the original 1930's Art Deco character, but it does have the character of an old building. Hotels in central Denver cost 2 to 4 times what I charge. I've accounted for all the pros and cons when deciding my rates:
1) CHECK IN TIME IS 3:00PM and no earlier. This allows us ample time to prepare the space after prior guests depart. In some cases when arranged in advance, early bag drop off is possible. Late check outs may be possible if next guests are not checking in the same day.
2) SECONDARY PARKING for an additional or visitor vehicle is on the street and is often hard to come by. *ALWAYS READ ALL THE SIGNS CAREFULLY!!!* and be prepared to walk 1 to 4 blocks. It's a pleasant, safe (though always be aware of your surroundings), walkable neighborhood.
3) TEMPERATURE: There is no thermostat in the apartment, and no AC. The building's "vintage" boiler heat keeps it plenty warm in the winter, though it does tap, clank and moan during the bitter cold temperatures. I find the sounds to be charming--you might consider it noise. My floor fan, operable windows, and building corridor swamp cooler help keep it cool in the summer. Please be aware you are not able to control the temperature with any level of accuracy. If this concerns you, you might consider other accommodations.
4) WATER: The water temperature and pressure can be erratic. There is generally hot water for showers. Hot baths can be hit or miss because of the temperature fluctuations. If you're looking forward to scalding baths, you might consider other accommodations.
5) NO PETS inside the apartment.
6) NO SMOKING/SMOKE of ANY kind inside the apartment. Period! None. Nada. Zilch. Zero.
7) NO MORE THAN 2 GUESTS per reservation.
8) NOISE: Sound does travel between walls and the hardwood floors, generally only from the building corridor, from the alley, or less often from the apartment above. It's rarely excessive but does occur. Be aware of your own noise levels and remove hard-soled shoes in consideration of the downstairs neighbor.
9) ANTI-HOTEL: This is my home. You will be cohabiting with some of my personal belongings (i.e. photos, clothes in closet, etc), and it rather "is what it is". The "independent, low-maintenance, self-directed, budget traveler" should have no issue with this. That's what Airbnb is about!
10) If any of this is an issue for you, there are plenty of nice hotels in Denver that will be happy to charge you much higher rates to ensure you have every single thing sterilized, cooled, heated, tucked, pressed and trimmed to your whim. Airbnb is about living like a local and doing the best with what you have. Either way, please enjoy your visit!

Interaction with Guests

I am typically away when guests visit. If I'm not the one to greet you, my friend and co-host is Mignon. She'll prepare the space for you and answer any questions you have. I send an informative email a few days before guest arrival, and I'm always available by phone, text, or email. If I'm in town, I'm happy to chat, perhaps have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and answer your questions about the neighborhood, Denver, and beyond!

  • Cara was a great host and left us a lot of information on what to do and see around Denver. She made it super easy to check in, even though she was out of town. We were in a great, central, location to explore Denver.

  • We did not meet Cara as she was out of town, but she was very nice on the phone. The studio is in one of our favorite neighborhoods in Denver and central to tons of activities. It was clean, comfortable, and worth the price. I just wish the weather was better for the Rockies game! We had a great meal at Charlie Browns and saw some great jazz at Dazzle (nearby) and El Chapultepecs (downtown). Thanks Cara and Mingon!

  • My stay at Cara's studio was fantastic. The communication was great and the whole process was very easy. Her place is very cool and artistic inside. It definitely has a warm vibe to it. If you are a designer or a "creative" you'll love this place. It's centrally located in Cap Hill and close to a lot of great bars and restaurants. The best part is the carpet in the hallways! Think "Fear & Loathing" carpet... Cara was very nice and I highly recommend this place to anyone.

  • Cara's studio was super comfortable and in a prime location in downtown Denver. We enjoyed jogging through nearby Cheesman Park, being able to walk to food/coffee, and having the option to chill in the apartment. When our travels bring us back to the Denver area, we will definitely consider Cara's accommodations.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed in Cara's apartment in Denver for a few days, and we loved it. The neighborhood is ideal for visiting Denver - it is close to downtown but has a quiet, residential feel. And there are some great places to eat!

The apartment itself is cozy, in a nice art deco-style building. And Cara was a great host. She sent us all of the logistical information we needed and gave us great tips on where to eat and explore. I would definitely recommend visiting this apartment!

  • We had such an awesome 1st airbnb experience at Caras place! The studio was perfect for what we needed and close to everything. We rented a car and drove up through the mountains for a day and it was so nice to have that parking spot to return to when we got back. Walked down to Whole Foods and got some groceries, and checked out City O City (one of her AWESOME restaurant recommendations, SO yummy) We will definitely return here if we come back to Denver :)
