We are very happy to welcome you in Amsterdam!
You’ll find our cozy attic room in the Plantage Area, nearby Artis Zoo. This area is loved because it's nice and quiet but still in the center of Amsterdam. The attic is on the third flour of a typically 19th century Amsterdam house with a canal view. The room is just renovated.
The room is spacious and bright. It has a private entrance, one double bed, a dinner table with chairs, two sofa-chairs, a clothing rack, audio system (for Iphone/Ipod), DVD player, free Wifi, travel books (inlcluding Lonely Planet of the Netherlands) and a map of Amsterdam. There is a Nespresso coffee machine and watercooker to make your own coffee or tea. The room is the only one on the 3th flour and is situated at the back of the house, so it’s very quit to have a good sleep! Of course we provide clean sheets and towels.
Downstairs on the second floor you can find the toilet, kitchen (with oven, fridge, microwave and dishwasher) and a bathroom (with bathtub, separate shower and two sinks). These you share with us, your hosts. You don’t have to pass our living, so you still have your privacy. Everything is just renovated.
The apartment is very central located, just a short tram or metro ride from central station. Many famous spots are just a short walk away; Waterloo Square (where you can rent bikes), Rembrandt square, the canals, Hermitage Museum, Brouwerij t IJ (the only windmill in town), Hortus Botanicus, a few museums and the Skinny Bridge. There are many nice restaurants, bars, bakery and a bike rental just around the corner.
Our favorite site just a few minutes walk away: the view on the 'Skinny Bridge'. Walking around there gives you a very nice view on all the 17th century built houses and the open water. Still very romantic every time we walk there by night.
Furthermore, we love Amsterdam and would like to share our favorite restaurants, bars, cafes, coffeebars and hotspots. So you’ll get a local Amsterdam experience!
Suitable for 1-2 persons. Perfect for couple's. Not suitable for friends who want to discover the Amsterdam nightlife & coffeeshops. As we also share spaces we appreciate a personal message where you tell us a bit more about yourself.
1) No smoking
2) Respectful to our house and stuff.

4) Be quit on the stairs
5) Not allowed to bring other people
We had a very nice stay at Gerard and Tjarda's attic! The room corresponds to the description and it is in a very central position. We didn't get to see the landlords a lot, but they were helpful both before and during our stay. Gerard gave us very specific indications about how to reach the house, and they kindly allowed us to get into the attic before the check-in time. Same for the check-out, so we could take our time without having to "vagabond" with suitcases! They also suggested us some restaurants that we tried and liked a lot!
The only "problem" were the stairs: we were very afraid to be noisy! But I guess that's another thing that makes this accomodation traditional, authentic and special!
We really enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam with Gerard and Tjarda. The room was very cosy and the location was great! Very easy to get around Amsterdam from their place. We particularly enjoyed our day at Artis Zoo which is just by their apartment. They were very welcoming and friendly and offered us advice as to what and where to go.
We really enjoined are stay! The room looked exactly like the room in the pictures and gerard en tjerda were very helpful from the moment we booked. The accomodation is situated in a lovely quite location. It takes a little pleasant walk to go to the city center but you can also take the tram. The shared bathroom and toilet isn't a problem at all and the hosts are friendly and answer all your questions.
We had a lovely stay at Gerards beautiful attic!
The room is very spacious and special. A perfect place to enjoy some relaxing time and start your walks from, exploring the city center of amsterdam!
Thank you for having us!
Gerard and Tjaida are the best hosts - accommodating, friendly helpful and also sensitive to your space. The room is even nicer that the photo shows, (which is pretty nice), theres a TV with DVDs as well. Guidebooks and even little flowers were laid out to make it welcoming. its how a friend might set the room for you. Its a really safe feeling area, all the main Amsterdam things you might want to do are easily accessible, we walked everywhere. we were even fond of the steep stairs, it felt very authentic Amsterdam!! Everything is spotlessly clean, (Tjaida, can you tell me what detergent you use on the linen, it smelled delicious, seriously!!). My only tiny sad was not being able to say goodbye properly, all because we slept in too late, entirely our fault!! But we owed them a personal thanks for a really lovely stay.
