I'm a self employed musician, artist, writer, researcher, woodworker, podcast host, Bitcoin enthusiast and jack of all trades generally. I'm easy going (most times), quiet, friendly and a good conversationalist who is always ready to talk about the sights and sounds of Nashville's entertainment offerings, the best places in town to eat, drink and be merry and the places to avoid at all costs. : )
Please note that I live on the first floor of this great old house. I am the caretaker, maid, butler, gardner, cook, etc. etc.
NOTE: This is a non smoking house. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on this property. In fact I don't even lease to smokers. If you are a smoker of any tobacco products please look elsewhere. I quit over 3 years ago and I just can't have it around. Thanks for understanding.
Final note: I have a very friendly Siberian Husky who likes to talk. His name is Max. He is great with people, he does not bark, and he does not have any bad dog smell. But strangely enough, sometimes he smells like corn chips.
Please feel free to ask me as many questions as you can think of BEFORE committing to stay here. The more questions you ask, the more answers you'll get!
Thanks for visiting!
I am happy to share my kitchen with extended stay guests!
I thought I would share the best review I've received to date. These guests also happened to be really wonderful people and that's my FAVORITE thing about being an Airbnb host - Meeting cool people and helping to make their vacations great!
Guests enter via the front door, through Le Gallerie, through another door into the garden room, through yet another door and then up a long flight of steps to the clean, quiet suite. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how clean and quiet this space actually is!
Review from Cindy McGill
"With so much to do in the great city of Nashville, where one lodges is not likely a major talking point when describing your trip among friends. On our second visit to Nashville we found a jewel. Sitting atop a charming bungalow in East Nashville is this well decorated, well organized, and very comfortable apartment. With lots of natural light, a beautifully tiled full bath, air conditioning, outdoor space, total privacy, free parking, and only minutes away from where you want or need to be in Nashville, this is a great place at a reasonable price. Every nook and cranny is staged like the Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle the family gathers around during the holidays. Artifacts from all time periods elegantly distributed throughout are eye catching and not cluttered. John's attention to detail will not go unnoticed. This "clean, quiet suite" on Fatherland Street in East Nashville is a great place to make as a home base when visiting Nashville. We know where we would like to stay every time we visit Nashville."
Interaction with Guests
I'm always friendly and willing to offer suggestions if asked. But this is YOUR vacation not mine. I give my guests the space they deserve while I keep busy living my busy life.
I always hope that my guests will treat me with the same respect. : )
P.S. This doesn't mean I don't like to party when the party is on.
I love Lockeland Springs for its rich architectural offerings of countless historic homes and wonderful green spaces. Walk 1 block for great coffee and freshly squeezed organic juice. Walk 4 more blocks for excellent food and wine at Lockeland Table - a great little bistro right in our neighborhood! A few steps up Woodland Street, is Rumors Wine bar and dozens of little boutiques for shopping, dining, great Music and excellent drink selections!
I love living in East Nashville because of the diversity and the great people generally, including the many locals who are still here.
I should also mention Shelby Park as a great place to hike, bike, boat and take in the natural beauty of the greenway as it winds along the banks of the Cumberland River - for miles and miles!
Shelby Park is a 3 minute walk from the house. Visit the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center in the park for maps and bike rentals!
From the house it's an easy, low stress, low traffic drive to the airport, downtown, West End and you name it. Also, public transportation is affordable and easily accessible. I no longer use taxi cab companies and my favorite ride company is Lyft but I also use Uber. They are fast, efficient and almost always friendly!
Other Things to Note
I pride myself on being open and honest in my communication with others.
Please do the same!
When you request to stay please tell me a bit about yourself so I feel like I'm communicating with a 3-dimensional person. Also please note that I don't lease to guests that haven't been verified. But Good News! - the verification process is easy!
No cigarette, cigar or pipe smokers allowed. Actually I don't lease to smokers. I don't mean to sound harsh, but If you smoke, please find a different place to stay. If you smoke tobacco products on or around my property, you will be asked to leave and your payment will not be refunded. Today, January 29, 2015 I'm over 3 years without tobacco. I can breath really well and sing like I could 20 years ago!
Glad I quit!
I had a wonderful week-long stay in John's lovely apartment! I was visiting by myself on vacation and enjoyed staying in the quieter East Nashville neighborhood. The area is filled with great restaurants, cute shops, and I fell in love with the nearby yoga studio - Kali Yuga. I didn't rent a car by found it VERY easy (and relatively inexpensive) to use Uber when you want to go downtown. Otherwise, East Nashville is safe and easy to walk around, as well.
The space was perfect - clean, modern, comfortable. I loved the outdoor little patio. It was a great place for your morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. John was very friendly and easy to communicate with. And his dog Max is incredibly friendly!
I loved my stay here and hope to return in the future. Thank you, John!
John was a fantastic host! Very helpful in finding us great places to go and never at all overbearing.
The place is just as it looks in the photos, if not better. Super clean and super stylish. We only wished we could stay a little longer. Oh and as mentioned in another review - absolutely first-class coffee.
East Nashville is the place to be! John was an excellent host. He has great attention to detail, from the decor, the coffee/tea/juice selection, to providing tissues and bathroom amenities. John ensures there are great coffee choices, both ground drip coffee and a Keurig machine with a plethora of K-cups. The space is truly amazing. The bed is extremely comfortable with the most amazing linens. The bathroom is spacious with unbelievable water pressure in the large shower.
To get to the apartment you do have to walk through John's downstairs hallway, but a quick friendly hello from John/great suggestions of places to go is one of the reasons I love using Airbnb. The house does have a dog, Max, who is the cutest most timid sweet dog, but wouldn't be good if you are allergic!! I love dogs, so looked forward to the hello we got when returning home.
A 10 minute walk you will find a great selection of restaurant/bars. John gave incredible restaurant suggestions that delivered every time. A quick Uber will get you to downtown Broadway in 5-10 minutes for under $10 (we paid under $10 and it was surge pricing!).
I absolutely loved this Airbnb and would recommend it to any single or couple wanting to check out Nashville.
John's place is great! We loved the small touches of unique items throughout the pad, great coffee in the morning and a hip neighborhood to take a stroll through. Easy and affordable to grab Uber and get to d-town for an evening out. John is a great host. Thanks for a great Nashville experience!
John is great. He was gracious in showing me his space. It is a beautiful apartment filled with modern and antique pieces. I was very comfortable staying there and enjoyed meeting his dog :)
The neighborhood is in a nice part of east Nashville.
Thanks John for a wonderful stay in Nashville! The suite is gorgeous and just as it appears in photographs. It's quiet, comfortable, has everything you may need during a stay (blow dryer, fan for white noise) - and really delicious coffee. It's located in a walkable neighborhood, with quality options for dining, coffee, and shopping. John was an excellent communicator and truly a super host.
Great house in a nice part of East Nashville, we were totally comfortable and my wife could not get over the cuteness of the space. John was very helpful and we appreciated his help and timely responses to our many questions. We would love to come back. Thank you John for making us comfortable and hosting us in your beautiful home.
I'm the host of a popular podcast about Digital Currencies and the future of finance. I'm also a self employed researcher who works from home. I'm a versatile vocalist, a song smith, a writer, a poet, a woodworker and a genuine modern day renaissance man.
I love anything to do with the outdoors and anything to do with meeting new people or seeing new places. I'm a bachelor who lives with my Siberian Husky Maxwell Raskalnikov CoyoTe Rex. But I call him Max.
Check out my reviews! Everyone who has ever stayed here has loved it. The penthouse suite is meticulously clean, well appointed and very private. You will definitely feel like you're on vacation - which I guess is the point.
And the location for East Nashville is unbeatable!
