The space

Nicely accommodated room in Historic bed and breakfast. King-sized bed with private bath ensuite.

We are located in the center of a historical New England town center with leafy streets, fishing boats, and beautiful architecture. There is a nice yard with gardens, a park with a running track a block away and a bicycle path two blocks away. There is a nice, 2 mile run to the ocean and back.
The Delano Homestead B&B is near beaches, parks, restaurants, and ferris to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. We are located within 30 mins of Newport, Providence, and Cape Cod. We are with-in an hour of two airports, Boston, and Martha's vineyard.

The property is historical with Greek Revival Architecture. It was in FDR's family for 120 years.

While it has a historical ambiance, it is a laid back and friendly place. Ask the inn-keeper for advice on your visit or just enjoy the peace and quiet. From the house, you can walk to the harbor, town pier, marinas, restaurants, library, beach, and parks. We are only a mile from the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, as well as the New Bedford Whaling Museum. We are within half-an-hour of Newport, Cape Cod, Providence, and many beaches. We are within an hour of two airports, Boston, mid-Cape, the ferry to Nantucket, whale watching, Plymouth Plantation, etc.

Guest access

Guests have access to their bedroom and bath, living room, dining room, kitchen, gardens and greenhouse. They can make their own coffee at any time or have a piece of fruit or snack. We serve an over-sized continental breakfast in am (included). Can also walk to restaurants, shops, fishing pier, beach, etc.

Interaction with guests

I am here to answer any questions or help in any way. Or you can have all the private space that you like .

The neighborhood

The neighborhood is historical, walk-able, tree-lined, and the town is an authentic, working fishing town. This is classic New England. Antique homes of character, Romanesque buildings, stone walls, etc. Fairhaven, a small picturesque town shares a harbor with New Bedford. This harbor is the biggest income producing fishing harbor in all of America. we have nearly 500 working fishing boats here. So, great seafood. Fairhaven has a pretty, mile-long sandy beach as well.

Getting around

You can take a plane (New Bedford Airport, Logan Airport, or T.F. Green Airport), bus or boat here and you can walk around town easily. We also have a bike path.

Other things to note

Check in after 1 PM. Check out before 11 am. please make sure that you give us your ETA and cell number as we are a small place and want to be sure that we are here to greet you.

Nice neighborhood, and for the most part really nice place. Great breakfast buffet. Everything was 5 star, except they put us on the third floor. The third floor is the pits. Headroom in the passageway is maybe 5'8". I hit my head every time. This was originally the helps area, and there is no way it should be offered as the same as the floor below. If you have a second floor room this is a 5 star experience.

Response from Paul:
Hi Lee. It was great having you. Usually when people book and we have them assigned to the third floor, we tell them that there is some low clearance at the top of the stairs and there are some eaves. Many guests ask for the third floor repeatedly, even after seeing in or staying on the second floor. it has the nicest bath (recently renovated) rand is the most private area of the house. But, each guest is different. We will try to be better about explaining the character of each room when booking through air bnb. direct bookings always result in more clear communication. We are an actual bed and breakfast and we assign the rooms based on availability when booked. I will also look into getting a new AC unit that is quieter. We appreciate the feedback and your patronage. Maybe next time you can specify the second floor.

My father and I planned a spontaneous road trip to New Bedford and Paul was able to accommodate us on short notice. We stayed two nights. Like a previous review implied, the photos don't do Paul's home justice-- the dining and living rooms are really grand, and provide a great setting to eat a wide breakfast assortment that Paul provides that is much more impressive than your typical complimentary hotel breakfast. The room and (new, upstairs) bathroom were very clean and uncluttered. The house is in the middle of a nice, quiet neighborhood of historic homes, with easy walking to a nearby historical fort and easy driving access to New Bedford proper, as well as regional roads and highways. We were very happy to have chosen Paul's listing.

My sister and I had a wonderful stay here in Fairhaven. Paul's home was more beautiful than in the photos. It was evident that he cares about his guests' experience as much as he cares about his own home. The hospitality was truly refreshing and Heidi tended to our every need! We look forward to a future opportunity to visit his lovely home again.
