Two blocks from Amtrak, impeccable accommodations situated halfway along the mile between Downtown Charlottesville & UVA's lawn in a walkable, friendly neighborhood. The train is close enough for an easy walk but not so close as to disturb.
Butternut Cottage is a small, urban, well-appointed home halfway between the University of Virginia and Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, just off West Main Street. It's an easy walk to both, about 5 blocks in either direction. The free trolley stops just a few blocks away as well and can help you get to UVa, Scot Stadium, JPJ Arena, and more.
Just up the street, West Main is chock full of wonderful restaurants: Maya, Bella, Continental Divide, Orzo, Blue Moon Diner to name just a few right around the corner.
The cottage is fully furnished and outfitted for your stay. There is wireless internet, cable TV, radio receiver, 5-CD player, and a DVD player with surround-sound audio/video. Additionally, there is off-street parking, A/C, iron and board, and other amenities for your comfort. This is a non-smoking residence. Pets may accompany guests with advanced permission and a cleaning fee of $50.
I regret that the City of Charlottesville does not allow me to provide continental breakfast:(
NOTE: the rent amount INCLUDES 6% local sales tax!
The entire house, grounds, and driveway (along with a tag for street parking for a second car) are included in the price/rental.
Interaction with Guests
I learned some time ago as both a guest and a host that it is more fun to experience the rental without interference. Therefore, I've set up an easy lockbox arrangement so guests can check in whenever they arrive in town. I'm in close touch before, during, and after the stay when questions arise or assistance is needed.
I'm just one block off West Main Street and 1/2 mile from both the Downtown Mall and UVA. My neighbors are all great and ready to help if anything comes up. We have artists here, world-class fiddle players, IT experts, moms and babies, retirees, students, PHD candidates, you name it. I love the eclectic, friendly vibe here.
Just a block up, on West Main Street, a free trolley travels back and forth between UVA and the Downtown Mall. It runs every 15 minutes Mon-Sat and every 30 minutes or so on Sundays:
No smoking in side the house, please, and pets only with notice and a $50 nonrefundable deposit. I love my cottage and appreciate your tender, loving care of it while I'm away!
We had a wonderful time at Butternut Cottage. Charlotte's home is the perfect place when visiting Charlottesville. We can't recommend it enough - you'll love it!
Charlotte left detailed instructions about everything in her house. It is warm, inviting and very pleasant. Very comfortable!
We had a wonderful time staying at Butternut Cottage. It was so easy to communicate with Charlotte before we arrived and the check in was quick and convenient. The cottage was even more charming than the photographs and its location is perfect! We were just two blocks away from one of our favorite Charlottesville restaurants! We especially appreciated the coffee and breakfast items that were there for us. And the driveway proved to be an excellent perk as well! We would absolutely stay there again on another visit to Charlottesville. Thank you, Charlotte!
My sisters and I had a very enjoyable time in Charlottesville this weekend. Butternut Cottage was comfortable and exceeded our expectations. We appreciated the homey, thoughtful touches such as fresh bread, granola and other breakfast items. The location is convenient to the Mall, great restaurants and shops.
What a charming little cottage so convenient to everything Charlottesville has to offer! We truly enjoyed our stay here and were very welcomed by our attentive host Charlotte. The cottage is cute, clean and homey and has everything you need. We enjoyed working in the sunlit office looking over the beautiful garden.
Butternut Cottage was wonderful! My husband and I decided last minute to plan a long weekend in Charlottesville, and the hotels were not only pricey, some didn't even seem convenient to downtown! We have never used Airbnb before, but Butternut Cottage looked charming and clean in the photos (which it was!) and Charlotte was very responsive to my inquiries and also offered great suggestions/tips for visiting the town (including a few websites about biking after I told her we were planning to bring our bikes). She made the process very easy and was a pleasure to work with! As for the cottage itself, it's quaint and the perfect size for a couple, and the homemade granola/breakfast items left for us were certainly an added bonus! The cottage isn't right downtown, but the walk isn't bad and there seemed to be a lot of taxis in the event you don't feel like walking. Overall, a great experience! Thank you Charlotte!
Next time, Arianne, I'll make sure you have the free trolley info. It runs back and forth from Downtown Charlottesville to UVA. Since Butternut Cottage is situated exactly in the middle of that mile, it's about half a mile to walk to either.
Thanks again for leaving the cottage in such great shape. You're welcome back any time!
Charlotte's cottage is charming! It was perfect for our family of three. Our toddler loved running around her backyard and enjoyed smelling all the flowers. The house had everything we needed... nice new bathroom, fast internet, good kitchen amenities, yummy breakfast, and comfortable furniture. The location was fantastic... in between UVA and the downtown mall. We look forward to staying at Charlotte's cottage in the future.
