We are located on Deering Street - a registered historic district. The property itself is a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1876. We have fully renovated the house. We presently have a very comfortable private guest room available for your use. We include free WIFI and free off street parking. Here is the very cool part - you are located 1 block from the Arts District. Since we are right in the central area of the peninsula you can walk to Portland's great restaurants, bars, cafes and old port.
We are happy to try to accommodate last minute bookings and late arrivals. Contact us to see what we can do!
The house - The room is located on the second floor. It is a private room with private entrance. While we do enter in the same main front door (which we keep locked at all times), once inside, guests enter their room through a common hallway, but do not have to enter or pass through our family's living space.
The bedroom - Your bed is appointed with Cuddledown (a 39 year old Portland based manufacturer and supplier of high end linens, comforters, feather beds and pillows) bedding! You will have a choice of pillow styles. We also have an in room window AC unit for perfect temperature during the summer months. The room in includes a TV with HULU subscription. You can also use your own Netflix account or purchase on demand with Amazon and Blockbuster. We have also included a mini fridge, coffee maker and tea kettle.
Noise - This room is located in our home. We are a family with a well behaved three year old. (And we aren't just saying that because we are her parents! She really is pretty mellow, but she is still a kid! ) We tend to get up around 7 so there will be movement downstairs at that time. There is also another rental on the same floor. Please note, we cannot be responsible for the time the sea gulls get up! All that said, everyone tells us they sleep like a rock in that room!
The full bathroom - It is fully renovated and spacious. It is a "Jack n Jill" between your room and a studio apartment we also rent via airbnb. Each room has a door into the bathroom, so you do not need to go into public space to enter it. We have also put in an on demand hot water system, so there is always plenty for everyone!
Half bathroom - On the first floor, just under the stairs there is another half bathroom that you can use.
Parking Our drive way has room for one extra car and we are happy to share with guests on a first come, first serve basis. Guests are required to leave their key with us if they are parked behind us in the driveway. If we park behind you and leave on foot, we will do the same.
If you are not comfortable with this arrangement, there is street parking available, but with a one hour limit from 9am-6pm M-F and further restrictions on Thursdays because of street sweeping. There is metered parking along State Street (half a block away) and less restrictive parking along Mellen Street (half a block in the other direction). There is also a parking garage two blocks away with hourly and daily rates available.

You will have access to your room without going through our family's space. An electronic lock with a code gives you access to our house. There is one parking space for guests on a first come first serve basis. Guests in this room share a large bathroom with guests in our studio apartment. All guests also have access to a powder room on the first floor.
We are transplants to Portland, so we are here "by choice" and love living here. We are happy to give you recommendations and answer any questions you have about our neighborhood, Portland and Southern Maine that we can!
Our street is beautifully tree lined, friendly and in an historic district. We are walking distance to many great eateries and drinkeries (how is that for a new word?) We are also very close to several music venues and walking distance from the Old Port.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
This was a great experience. Bob and Barbara were fantastic, their house is gorgeous, and it's in a fantastic location right around the corner from amazing restaurants and a breakfast spot that no one visiting Portland should miss. Will highly recommend Bob and Barbara to friends, and stay with them again next time we visit Portland.
Really nice space in an excellent location!
If you are going to stay in Portland, Barbara and Robert's place is PERFECT. I just loved the neighborhood. I only regret not staying longer. It didn't work with my schedule. This location allows you to really comb the arts district by foot. There are plenty of places to eat and drink and be merry. All walking distance. I hope to return this year to eat my way around Portland. The room I stayed in was clean and VERY comfortable. I felt at home. And I got a killer night's sleep. The bathroom is VERY clean. I have NO COMPLAINTS.
The house is located on a beautiful street, right in town. A perfect walk to all of what is going on. They provide a list of restaurants with comments that was good to have.
Super. Stayed in the studio . Everything was simple thanks to Robert. Centrally located . Go to Miyake diner for lunch and even tide restaurant. From 4 to 6 for super reasonable eats and drinks. And of course the Green Elephant. We will be back. Love Portland . Oh. The ferries to the islands . Great. Thanks to all 3 of you. Bob and Deb. Bards coffee. Love it.
Great location with well organized, welcoming and helpful hosts. Room is nicely equipped with small fridge, microwave, coffee and tea making supplies as well as small TV and wireless internet. Interesting neighborhood with lots of lovely old homes is right off congress street and close to all the downtown action. Parking is available on location. Thank you for a very convenient and comfortable visit!
The location was fantastic, the hosts were lovely and the brownstone handsome and beautifully situated. The key code front door was a great touch, too!
The unit was in need of soundproofing and some basic updates but otherwise a simple, nice stay.
Barbara and Robert were wonderful hosts and have a lovely home. The room was clean and cozy - perfect for a weekend getaway! And you can't beat the location - we didn't use the car the entire time we were there. Portland is a great city for exploring and Barbara and Robert left us so much helpful information to make sure that we took advantage of all the city had to offer. I'd recommend this rental to anyone looking for a fun weekend in Maine!
The whole experience was fantastic! We stayed only for one night, but Barbara and Bob were very accommodating and anticipated every need. It was like staying in a hotel, but with a much warmer, friendlier atmosphere. The recommendations for places to go were also excellent. We particularly liked The Holy Donut for a delicious breakfast and Blue for live music on a Saturday evening. We definitely recommend them!
