About this listing
We have a cozy fun treehouse with amazing views and a deck for having coffee in the mornings. If you want to feel like a child again with that spirit of adventure this is the place for it.
The treehouse is located within a 42 acre property with a private gate in what we call a "mountain retreat". We're up in the mountains of Saint Helena. We have a big saltwater swimming pool with mountain views.
We had to remodel and upgrade the interior of the "treehouse" recently. It now has a full size bed, a skylight and new floors since, the tree that used go through the middle of it died and had to be removed.
There is an additional charge of $25 for a second person.
The bathroom/shower is shared if we have other guests at the Loft, and it is available at the second floor of the "Barn" not too far away.
A "continental" breakfast in the morning is included. Which is usually coffee, cereals and fruit when available.
This is really a TREE HOUSE not a house on a tree. It has no electricity, heat or AC. We have a power bar in the barn for charging your devices if needed. We also provide a battery operated lantern and flash light.
We're in the middle of may acres of wilderness and there are creatures around so, if you're uncomfortable encountering spiders, bugs, lizards, frogs, bats, very rare but, occasional snake, etc., spending the night in the second story of a barn or a treehouse may not be the best choice.
All the water in the property comes form a well so it has a lot of minerals, including sulfur. If you are uncomfortable with well water, sulfur smell or the drought, please do not come to spend the night in the countryside.
We started bee hives on the property which is a common and generally harmless farm activity but, if you are allergic to them, it is certainly a consideration that needs to be done.
We are 15 miles (about 1/2 hr. drive) from downtown St. Helena, which is full of great shops and restaurants. Napa is 20 to 25 miles depending on which way you go (30 to 45 minutes drive).
We are also close to great wineries and two fantastic lakes, Lake Berryessa and Lake Hennessey, which have great hiking trails, fishing and boating.
If you get here when we're not home, please get settled, enjoy the pool area and the rest of the grounds. The bathroom is on the second floor of the barn at the Loft and there is cold water, cups, milk and sugar for the morning in the refrigerator at the bottom floor of the barn. Coffee and cereal will be set up at the bottom of the stairs.
We have guests staying at the Loft so, please be considerate in keeping the bathroom tidy and manage light switches and noise if you're using it late at night or early morning.
There is a small flashlight you can borrow to walk around and a lantern in the "Treehouse", it's dark here at night. We'll leave some night lights on. There are hooks for your towels in the "Treehouse". Please take some time to read and follow our house rules regarding the bathroom. (Wipe the shower glass with “squeeye”, only very little toilet paper in the compost low flow toilet, pedal up fills the bowl, pedal down flush it down, do not hold the pedal to let a lot of water down it overflows the tank, keep the seat down, use the fan, etc.)
If you hear walking around late at night and see flashlight beams, it's us checking for deer before letting the dogs out for the last time before bed.
Please remember you're visiting a home, not a hotel.
We receive guests who use and enjoy what we have to offer and are used to or like to leave things in similar order as they found them. (There are so many of you out there whom we love hosting and are always welcome back!)
If you are one of those guests who makes a mess and leaves behind that and some additional trash for "someone else" to pick up, please do not come and stay with us.
No check in after 9 pm unless previously agreed.
We do this not only because we work and need our sleep but also because it is a curvy mountain road and it's best traveling up here in daylight.
We do not allow smoking. We live in a very dry wooded area so, fires are a major danger.
We have a septic and a compost system so please be kind to it and don't throw anything in the toilet (other than toilet paper) or down the drain. Always use the fan when in the bathroom and shower and keep the lid down on the toilet.
Only very little toilet paper in the compost low flow toilet, pedal up fills the bowl, pedal down flush it down, do not hold the pedal to let a lot of water down it overflows the tank below.
We recycle the gray water from the sink and shower so, please only use biodegradable soaps and shampoos which we provide.
Please "squeegee" the shower glass after you're done. It is a small bathroom so please hang your towels out on the hooks in the loft.
The Bathroom in the loft is shared with the tree house if we have guests in both places. Please be considerate of our other guests and keep it tidy. Use the curtain in the loft if you would like more privacy.
We are pet friendly and welcome well behaved socialized doggies as long as you are responsible for them at all times. This is a large unfenced property with lots of wild life around so please keep an eye on your pets. There is an additional $20 fee per dog, per night.
We do not receive young children as guests. Sorry, too many potential liabilities with the pool, the dogs and many acres of open wilderness with a wide range of wildlife.
If you would like to bring additional guest please let us know and we can alter your reservation though AirBNB. We prefer all additional charges like extra guests, and dogs be done in advance and though AirBNB. We used to hold a reservation for less people and then ask for cash upon arrival for any additional guests but, unfortunately we've been burnt more than once by doing that and the sour after taste of the unpleasant experiences, however few indeed, lasts for a long time. So, You'll have to make your reservation through AirBNB for the maximum number of guests and nights you could anticipate. We want to avoid last minute, once here and after stay financial negotiations as much as possible.
We do not receive "day guests" or "guests of guests". If you are at the property means you are a paid guest.
If you do the booking, means you are going to be here since the space is rented to you and through your AirBNB account, profile, etc. We do not receive "gift stays" or, in other words guests whose stay has been paid or booked by somebody else who is not staying at the property, regardless of how close the relationship between them might be (husband, sister, son, etc.) That qualifies as "guest of guest".
No kitchen or laundry use is included. This means no cooking, weather you bring your own grill or camp stove. You are not staying on a campground. There is a refrigerator available in the barn for drinks or snacks and that's fine.
Please don't leave food or drinks laying around unattended, there are mice, bugs and other creatures attracted to that. Remember it's a barn or a treehouse in open wilderness.
Please remember to check out at noon, specially if we have other guests coming.
If you have any questions please email us though AirBNB it is too hard to keep track with my private email.
Please keep in mind that there is no cell phone service up here, we ask that all our guests review the house rules and manual before their arrival. And please PRINT your directions and gate code. Gps is not always reliable and cell phones don't work up in the mountains.
Please enjoy the pool and the outside areas. Let us know if you need anything and most of all enjoy your visit!
