Six Bedrooms, Three Bathrooms, Fabulous Location
If you are planning a reunion this is the perfect place. The spacious and beautiful apartment is on the first and second floors of an elegant 1890's two-family home with high ceilings and big windows. The neighborhood offers something interesting for everyone to do and you won’t need a car, but one parking space is included, and more are negotiable.
We’re a mere one and a half blocks from the Davis Square T stop (Red Line Subway) and a half-block from Massachusetts Ave, so you can be in Arlington, Boston, Cambridge or Medford by public transit in minutes. Harvard and Tufts are just a fifteen minute walk away. There’s also easy access to Route 2 and the Bike Path. Davis Square, our own neighborhood, is one of Boston's "hot spots". It's full of life. There are numerous coffee and ice cream shops, and restaurants of every kind. Theater, music, movies, lovely shops -from groceries to clothing, a fitness club, bowling, pool halls and a play ground are all within a few blocks.
You’ll have a private entrance to yourselves. The main area is on the second floor where the core includes a large open kitchen, dining room, and living room. The private master suite includes a bathroom with an extra-long soaking tub, a high-end Sealy king-size bed with a padded head-board, and a small desk. The suite's walk-in closet has a window, and it's so big that people often use it as a nursery. (We can provide a porta-crib). The beautiful and sunny main study is equipped with a desk and comfortable chair, as well as a day bed for reading or sleeping. The light-filled front bedroom is furnished with twin beds, and there's room for us to add an air-bed as well.. There's also a second bathroom (shower/sink/toilet) and a full laundry. The private second floor balcony is a perfect place to sit for morning coffee or a peaceful evening glass of wine.
The annex is on the first floor. It includes three additional rooms and a bathroom. One is set up with a queen-size futon (this room can also hold an air-bed or porta-crib for a child). The second room, called the nook, has a full bed. The third room is a tiny study that can hold an air-bed. All the bedrooms have access to a bathroom without passing through another bedroom.
The apartment is served by central air conditioning with the exception of the study.
The walls are a celebration of fine art, and if you love something you can buy it and take it home with you. There's a selection of mixed media works, photographs, etchings, lithographs, and fine watercolors. We rotate work from our collection, and it's all worth your attention.
Please contact the owner for rates if you are interested in a one-bedroom/one bath configuration.
The well-equipped kitchen is served by two under-counter refrigerator/freezers – plenty of space for regular grocery shopping, but not suitable for bulk shopping.
A cat lives in the other part of the house, but is not allowed in the apartment.
Parking for one car is included. Additional parking can be purchased -- just tell us what you need.

This space was perfect for our gathering of 4 couples, a toddler and a grandma. Rebecca was very warm and considerate - she even put out some toys and books for our son! The apartment gets great light and is in a great location.
The pictures don't do the place justice! We were very happy with the location and proximity to the subway, the space to accommodate a group of 7, and the hospitality we received. I would recommend the house to anyone looking for a comfortable place close to Harvard or Boston.
We'd rented this house for a family gathering. Rebecca & Richard couldn't have been more gracious—even asked if anyone in our party was gluten-intolerant (answer: yes! Two people.) so as to provide acceptable goodies in the welcome basket!
We stayed at Rebecca and Richard's house for a business trip and had a fantastic time. The home is in a great area, very close to the subway station and within walking distance to many restaurants, a grocery store and more. Some people went running in the morning. We had everything we need in the kitchen -- the two fridges provided us all the space we needed for a week's worth of food. I highly recommend this home for a group of travelers - it is well laid out and there is plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. Rebecca was so easy to work with and very accommodating during our stay. I have rented many private rental properties and Rebecca is among the best owners I've dealt with.
Rebecca and Richard went over and beyond to make our stay memorable. We were in town for our daughter's wedding and Richard took many pictures of the events and provided us with copies. The apartment was the scene of many family gatherings and preparations for the wedding. It was ideally located and spacious enough that it soon was the center of the wedding activities. They are the ideal hosts.
What a wonderful gem of a place! We enjoyed every minute of our time. Richard and Rebecca were great hosts and they made us feel so special. The wonderful bread that Rebecca had waiting was a warm gesture and we so loved it! I would highly recommend this beautiful place to any one. It had everything you need and it was such a great and convenient location. We couldn't have been happier!!!
Our group of 10 Tucson runners cannot express how much we appreciated having our home base at Rebecca's and Richard's amazing Sommerville home. Not only was it beautiful, with freshly baked bread, and other sweet surprises from Rebecca and Richard, but it truly felt like home. Many trips were made to the adorable market a couple blocks away, the T was just as close, with tons of other places to check out right in Davis Square. Having this house to gather, cook, relax and share memories that will forever be with our whole group is more than we could have asked for and we hope to return! Endless gratitude.
I can't thank Rebecca and Richard enough for being such wonderful hosts and being so helpful and understanding as our plans and the number of people attending kept changing. The apartment itself is wonderful, welcoming, and was perfect for our celebration of a friend's bachelorette party. We loved having a warm and happy place to gossip, lounge, and watch girly movies. We couldn't have been more pleased with the nice touches that Rebecca left us - the welcome basket, the chocolate and tissues on our beds, and all the essentials we needed in the kitchen to make a great meal for 8! The apartment is a very short walk from some great restaurants and bars that were perfect for celebrating as well. Definitely check this place out!
The host was very accommodating and helpful. The place was very well stock and beautifully decorated.
Could not have been better! Rebecca is a most gracious host. Her welcome basket that included a loaf of delicious homemade bread was supplemented by lots of disposable dishes for our large family reunion. She left out toys for the 2 children, including a book in the made-up Pak'n'Play. All communications before were efficient and precise, going into all the details we craved. The house is beautifully decorated, sparking clean and very comfortable, with all the amenities, big and little, you could hope for. The location is perfect: close to the T, the bus, Davis Square, a great little gourmet grocery and even a greenway. It's a 20-minute walk from Harvard Square. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly,.
