Interaction with Guests
We will welcome you in person or provide you with a lock box code prior to your check-in.
Moore Lake is a large fresh water lake with few motorized boats during the week. Pack a lunch and paddle through to additional lakes then hike into the Queen Elizabeth II Park where you may spot a moose or tow. We are near the charming town of Norland which is on the Gull River and just south of Minden and Haliburton in the Kawartha Lakes. From here you have access to the Ganaraska Trails as well as access to the Minden White Water Reserve, the kayaking and rafting adventures. Check the Guide Book for all the things to do in the area.
For experienced Trippers, discover the Queen Elizabeth II Park from the lake or access trails. The park is 33,505 hectares in size and is one of the largest and least developed natural areas south of Algonquin Park. The park has a low rolling topography which is characterized by numerous rock ridges, including scenic cliffs and gorges, separating dozens of small lakes, rivers and streams. This vast area was once covered with forest and deeper soils prior to the logging era. Take a 5 mins drive along Deep Bay Road to access the hiking trails.
The best way to get around is by car.

Thanks for your help in preserving Roost Cottage and enjoy your wonderful vacation!
We really enjoyed our stay at Roost Cottage. The cottage interior is huge and plenty of space for 2 families to share. The lake is perfect for short canoe/kayak trips, lovely for swimming and really great for kids - very shallow and warm, even from the small dock. The kids played a lot in the sand, and we were still able to keep an eye on them from the deck. We got sun throughout most of the morning and afternoon. The hammock and badminton net were great. We had several days of crummy weather but were still able to keep cosy with the fireplace and loads of games and movies inside the cottage and the ping pong table in the basement was a big hit. The whole area is fantastic, with lots to see and do within a short drive and so the cottage is really a great base for exploring the Kawarthas. Marina was very responsive and replied quickly to messages and made us feel welcome and comfortable. We'd definitely stay here again!
Marina was a wonderful host. She called a week before the booking to personally review all the details and checked if we had any questions on the day of checking in. She was also very responsive by text throughout the week.
The cottage was as described. The main living room is lovely and clean with big windows overlooking the water. We stayed with my family (my husband, a 4 yr old and a 1.5 yr old), and another family who had a 5 year old and a 1 yr old. One family ended up sharing the rooms with a queen and full bed because they share a washroom, while the other family shared the rooms with twin beds. Warning that the place is not toddler proof - there are fragile items around, the deck has no railing, and there are steep stairs to the basement that are not easily blocked. We had to keep an eye on the 1.5 yr old.
The water is great for little ones. There is a sandy beach area that kept the kids occupied the whole time (bring beach toys!). The water is very clean and clear and is shallow pretty far out. The firepit is also great. It's close enough to the house that once the littlest ones were in bed, we could still have a fire and would hear them if they cried.
The kitchen was fully stocked and we definitely appreciated the espresso maker. There was always plenty of hot water and it was nice being able to use the washer/dryer (which were very clean).
Note there are no hiking trails nearby but we were easily kept occupied by the kayaks and the beach.
All in all we had a great vacation at Roost Cottage! We were a bit nervous using Airbnb for the first time, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience.
Jennie, I'm glad to hear you had a wonderful vacation! Yes the cottage is not toddler proof and it's a good reminder for future guests. Roost Cottage borders the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park, which is spectacular but not developed so access to hiking trails requires a paddle on the lake or access from Deep Bay Road.
This was the second time back at this cottage and it was just as wonderful as the first!
Marina was gracious host. She touched base with us before our trip and left a couple of personal touches to make the cottage more enjoyable.
It really has everything that you'd want for a get away at the cottage.
Marina was super helpful through-out the entire process, and allowed us to extend our stay. The house and the lake are a wonderful place for a family get together in the country. The music and movie library are amazing and great for those rainy days. We had a delightful week.
Our stay at the Roost Cottage was amazing. There was so much to do inside and outside, we were able to go canoing, kayaking and jumping off the dock. The weather wasn't the greatest so on some occasions we stayed indoors, during that time, there were lots of movies and board games to choose from.
The place was clean, tidy plus the kitchen had the perfect essentials for a cottage.
My family had a blast and they would certainly recommend this place.
Totally exceeded our expectations! My family and I had the pleasure to stay at this beautiful cottage for 10 days in May. Everything about this cottage, from the inside to outside was incredible. Luxurious cottage with so many wonderful amenities. We loved the steam sauna, chef kitchen, apple TV with enormous amount of movies, beautiful living room with a stunning view and of course the lakefront outdoor space! Moore Lake is beautiful and having the chance to canoe through it was incredible. Marina is an awesome host, she was able to answer every single question we had in usually one hour or less. Highly recommend this cottage and would for sure come back next time!
Thank you for such an amazing getaway from the city!
Great winter cottage weekend. Everything was as described in the listing. Lots of room for 6 adults. High quality amenities, kitchen supplies etc. and great entertainment selection (movies, games, etc.). The view of of the lake, as well as the surrounding area were really beautiful. Wifi was OKAY and the heating a bit temperamental.
We were really happy with our stay and hope to return. Marina was really friendly and informative. We highly recommend!
Thanks Graeme, you are our first winter guest! Wish we had heard about the about the WiFi as there are two networks to choose (website hidden) heating, we use a programmable Nest thermostat that can be easily adjusted to your comfort :) Hope you checked out the steam room!
