Hi, I'm Chris. I travel frequently for work and list on Airbnb to defray some of my housing costs since I'm never home. My apartment is in Pacific Beach, the house is simple and older but kept nice and clean. This place is all about the location, you can walk to everything in PB. 1 and 1/2 blocks to the beach, 2 blocks to the bay, 3 blocks to Garnett Ave where there is a large number of bars and restaurants. It's a large studio with a queen sized bed, private bathroom and full kitchen. Can accommodate 1-2 people, better for couples or a single as the second single will get an air mattress on the floor. Free wifi, 46 inch flatscreen with Netflix, use of bicycles, surfboards and other sporting equipment can be arranged. You have a private patio with a hammock and bbq, and a shared yard with a firepit. If you're staying there that means I'm out of town but if you contact me in advance I'll be more than happy to leave you directions, recommendations, etc. I have friends with local tourism and adventure businesses so anything in the way of surfing lessons, jet ski rentals and so forth can be arranged. It's roughly 20 minutes to the airport or downtown by car (roughly $25 in cab) or you can take a Car2Go or the bus (public transportation in SD is NOT very convenient though).
Chris's place was perfect for my week in San Diego. The location can't be beat--a very short walk to the beach, and close to lots of restaurants and bars--and it's super clean. I never met Chris, but he was really responsive on email and everything went smoothly. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.
Really nice studio spot, in a great location. Chris was super helpful and accommodating, and didn't mind my late check-in schedule. Would stay here again and recommend it to others.
We loved Chris's sweet place so much we even extended to stay longer. The location was great, the tv was epic w/ all the Netflix options in the world and when we couldn't figure out how to work it, Chris promptly called and worked us through it. We loved the decor and space for storage. And the kitchen was stocked w/ all the essentials, beer, beer, beer, and beer! Oh and of course milk, oil, stuff like that. The only downfall I could say is Chris's place was so great that other airbnb houses don't quite live up to our new expectations now. Oh well! Looks like we've got to make a trip back. :)
It is good place to live for 2-3 days.
Thank U Chris.
Chris was excellent at getting back to us ASAP with any questions. His place was very close to tons of things to do and most importantly to the beach. He warned us about the size possibly being a bit tight with my husband and I, and our two dogs (which was very kind) but it ended up being perfectly fine. It was a real mission beach experience! We would stay again.
I stayed at Chris' place and it was great! His place was in walking distance to the beach and a lot of bars and restaurants. He had a great supply of kitchen ware to make meals as well. The place was clean and was easy to check in and out. I would def stay there again.
AESTHETIC APPEAL: Just like Drizzy, we're gonna start from the bottom. The room, although incredibly clean and well kept, looks like it came straight from an 1998 Ikea catalogue. Covered in pull out posters from late 90s Thrasher and Transworld Skateboarding (not to mention a few tastefully/not so tasteful pinned up pin ups), the room gave some youthful, angsty vibes. We appreciated it- Chris, you're not trying to be someone you're not (it's like we know you or something. We really don't). The kitchen, although tiny, is totally fine. The bathroom, is also 100% acceptable. The shower gets hot and the water pressure is great, that's all that matters really. If we had to categorize your place, we'd call it Pre-Millennial-Back-to-the-Future-Surfer-Dorm-Room-Realness. We mean this in the most endearingly way possible.
COMFORT: Mmmm. Assuming you don't share your bed, I'm sure you could log at least a solid 7.8 hours per night. The right side of the bed is a weeeee bit slanted, so if two people are going, I recommend a fair game of Rock, Paper, Scissors prior to bedtime to see who gets the left side. Other than that, you've got everything you need. You get a nice yard with a fire pit, a hammock, and a desk. Oh, not to mention a massive TV. But the real draw of this bad boy is the outdoors.
LOCATION: This is the real factor, right? When one rents an AirB&B in San Diego, its assumed that they are a stranger to this beautiful place and thus care about all the things a traveler would care about: location, proximity to the sites, accessibility to food, drink, activities, etc. While this nice dorm room may lack the latest stylings from Restoration Hardware, it totally makes up in location. This spot is located less than 3 minutes from the golden sands of the Pacific and near to all the food/drink spots of Pacific Beach. It's just a little ways from downtown, but that doesn't even matter when you are so close to the shores of Pacific Beach and La Jolla. Assuming you have a car, you're really not too far away from anything! And Pacific Beach is walkable- what a plus! We hope you all check out brunch at Cafe 21, their salmon omelet is killer. Also Fat Fish in PB- the baked brie app might turn you into a centaur- it's that mystically delicious.
PRICE: Split between 2 people, it's $31 per night per person? Chillin. Very reasonable. Especially since you're only a mere 2 blocks from the Pacific. This pad is a great deal. Bravo, bravo, come one, come all!
PERSONALITY: Chris, we don't really know you, but we like you. You were super helpful and suggested some great things to do around the area. Next time we're back, let's hang out, eh?
CONCLUSION: Do it. You'll dig it. And make you sure you get that omelette.
With the best of vibes,
-Matt and Lauren
We stayed at Chris's place during the week of Thanksgiving. The place is in a great location, walking distance to everything you could want in PB. The apartment was surprisingly clean considering the bachelor pad/beach bum essence of the place.
Why not 5 stars....I thought I read somewhere that it was a queen size bed, but I am pretty sure it was a full, not super comfy and pretty small for me and my 6'3 boyfriend...but we managed for a few nights. The pilot light was out and the place got pretty cold (I think it was unseasonably chilly that week). Chris was out of town and left us the phone number of a neighbor, so we called the neighbor to get help, but ended up lighting the pilot light ourselves and then we were nice and toasty. The TV system was kind of complicated to use even when following the instructions closely, but we figured it out and watched a lot of netflix.
All in all, a great value for the location and convenience and an authentic PB beach bum feel!
Chris was nice and friendly. The accommodations were clean. It was conveniently located.
he "dorm room" ethic of decorations and furnishing aren't my cup of tea and detracted from the experience. An opportunity to sit outside and relax was squandered by furniture issues.
If you are looking for a crash pad, this may be your cup of tea. If you're looking for a place to spend time and relax this probably isn't it.
Chris was a great host! We really enjoyed our time in PB and you can't beat this location! Walked to the beach every day, found fun bars and restaurants (also for the Boston guy in me, a New England-style lobster roll right up the street). Rent a bike for 5 bucks and ride the coast, walk to smaller, local spots, minutes from highway, but sure feels quieter. We had a great time in the simple, small, secluded surfer's studio in a prime location.
