The Windermere area
You'll discover fine varied walking country around Lake Windermere, at the heart of the Lake District. Hire a boat and take to the lake itself, or use the network of footpaths to reach the best high-level views. There are lots of options for places to visit, including Ambleside Roman Fort and Troutbeck Park, which was once owned by Beatrix Potter.
Enjoy this beautiful region and unwind amidst breathtaking scenery at any time of the year. Ramble through some of the best walking country in Britain; get out your mountain bike and go off road or simply enjoy the pleasures of the delightful towns and villages dotted throughout the lakes and Cumbria.
The railway arrived in 1857, making the area much more accessible to visitors and with this demand grew a wealth of Lake District Hotels and a multitude of natural and 'built' attractions. The railway still exists today and brings people from all over the world to this special area of the Lake District National Park. As well as being a sustainable way to travel, most of the Windermere hotels are only a short walk from the station, or at worst a five minute taxi ride.
In terms of attractions, Lake Windermere is well known as England's largest Lake at over 10 miles long and is also the deepest at 65 metres. There are numerous outstanding viewing points within easy reach either by car, or by short walk. Gummer's Howe is probably the most famous being situated at the south end of Lake Windermere. You can drive most of the way, leaving only a 30 minute walk to marvel at the panoramic views over Lake Windermere and across to Morecambe Bay. To see the Lakes from a different perspective, Arnside Knott rewards those who take this gentle climb with stunning views of the Kent Estuary and Morecambe Bay; simply head for the viewpoint. For a more challenging, but still enjoyable walk for most, take the 2 hour round trip to Brantfell and Post Knott. Take the camera, as there are wonderful views of Windermere, the stunning Langdales and maybe even the Lake District Hotel you've chosen. Hope for a clear day and always check the weather forecasts before heading out. Suitable footwear is always important, even on these more leisurely walks.
Around Lake Windermere you'll find an array of villages and hamlets to enjoy. While the drive will be slow around the twisting back roads, you'll discover:
+ Fell Foot Park [National Trust] where you can enjoy an ice cream and hire a boat;
+ Aquarium of the Lakes and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway at Lakeside, both being attractions you can enjoy on a sunny or rainy day;
+ At Graythwaite you can enjoy Graythwaite Hall Gardens, which are particularly impressive in the Spring;
+ Head up towards Sawrey and visit ‘Hill Top', a 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter weaved her lyrical magic.
+ At the north end of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is a Mecca for walking enthusiasts and you can take a lake cruise back to your hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere;
+ Visit the Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere

Interaction with guests
Totally self service affair. I am not on site but help is close at hand if needed.
A Victorian town almost as it was when first developed. Beautiful buildings and dedicated to the tourist industry. Fantastic breathtaking scenery. A busy place even in the heart of winter. Probably my favourite time of the year with its fresh crisp air. Autumnal colours are a sight to behold. Spring with its rebirth reminds me if the warmer days ahead where as a child I came on holidays to spend hours dipping my feet in streams and lakes. A place you will want to return to for sure.
Mysty has its own parking directly outside. Please be patient as its a busy lane but free and without time restrictions. Parking in Windermere is very scarce, time restrictions apply in village. A great bus service which takes you throughout the lakes. Bus and train station 1/4 mile approx. Save money on bus and buy an all day ticket.
Other things to note
Mysty is compact. One double bedroom with kitchette and bathroom/WC. Although small it's well equipped and offers clean affordable accommodation ideal for people wanting to explore the beautiful lakes. Unlimited Broadband Wifi included in hire cost.
We expect you to leave Mysty Holiday Let as you find it.

Walking holidays, days away, gardening and growing home produce. Love my hens. Motorcycle touring
I am a carer for my parents in Belfast and spend a great deal of time there. Airbnb is perfect allowing me access to my apartment to spend quality time with my twin girls when I return. Visiting the lakes from the age of two I bought Lyndale from the people and now dear friends who owned the guest house where my family stayed in for over 30 years. Mysty I stayed in as a guest many times myself. A dream come true to live (sometimes) in the Lakes.
Originally moved to lakes after 12 years in London where I finally studied horticulture and decided to move to the lakes. The first few years I worked in horticulture and enjoyed planting up hotels, guest houses and private gardens for windermere resident's. Passionate about everything I do my display's won gold awards year after year and was awarded the trophy.
I hope my home reflects my passion and the enjoyment I get from making your holiday memorable and a true Airbnb experience.
